Feeling confident about it. I don't think it'll be a walkover maybe, but the first leg result should keep Celtic sitting pretty.

Champions League third qualifying round, first leg

CSKA Moscow 2-2 Sparta Prague

Dinamo Zagreb 1-1 Molde

Fenerbahce 0-0 Shakhtar Donetsk

Maccabi Tel-Aviv 1-2 Plzen

FC Midtjylland 1-2 Apoel Nicosia

Milsami 0-2 Skenderbeu

Panathinaikos 2-1 Club Brugge

Videoton 1-1 Bate

Young Boys 1-3 Monaco

The Shakhtar Donetsk coach, Mircea Lucescu, has admitted he went against Uefa’s wishes in fielding the midfielder Fred in Tuesday’s Champions League qualifier despite being aware of a possible doping violation hanging over the Brazil international.

According to reports in Brazil, the 22-year-old had tested positive for a banned diuretic at the recent Copa América in Chile and faces a lengthy ban from the game should his second sample confirm the findings.

Lucescu, however, opted to start the midfielder in Tuesday’s 0-0 draw at Fenerbahce in the first leg of their Champions League third qualifying round, dismissing Uefa’s concerns while claiming he had yet to receive confirmation of any violation.

“Before the game, Uefa advised us not to include him but we had not received any official documents and this was just a verbal recommendation,” he said. “There is no specific statement on this matter for now and we are still waiting for the results of the B sample. I have talked to the team and the player personally. When the official decision arrives, of course, we will stick to it.”

It really wasn't wasn't a good enough win, one goal in the dying minutes. I'd have preferred at least 2-0 cos I think it'll be a hard game away from home but eh.

Manchester United could face a tricky tie against last season’s quarter-finalists Monaco when Friday’s draw for the Champions League play-off is made.

After missing out on European competition entirely last term, Louis van Gaal’s side qualified for the play-off by finishing fourth in the Premier League and will discover who they must beat to progress to the group stages when the draw is made in Switzerland at 11am, live on Eurosport.

Monaco, who beat Arsenal in last season’s last-16 tie before losing in the last eight to eventual finalists Juventus, cruised past Swiss side Young Boys 7-1 on aggregate on Tuesday to secure their place in the draw.

United, Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen, Shakhtar and Sporting Lisbon are the five seeded teams in the non-champions route, meaning they could also be paired with Lazio, CSKA Moscow, Club Brugge and Rapid Vienna.

The two-leg ties will be played on 18 and 19 August, with United expected to be placed in pot 2 if they qualify.

Celtic’s reward for beating Qarabag 1-0 on aggregate on Wednesday will be a tie against one of Israel’s Maccabi Tel-Aviv, Partizan Belgrade of Serbia, Sweden’s Malmo, FK Astana from Kazakhstan or Albanian champions Skenderbeu Korce.
