Metal Gear Solid V - The Phantom Pain

I think there's a balance to be struck between story telling in games. Story helps motivate you, but you don't want to be sitting with your controller on your thighs for literally 20+ minutes.

I don't mind, I'm quite lazy <_<

Probably why I hardly ever finish games, if I actually have to play it for more than half an hour I get bored and find something else to do :P

In that case, save yourself some money and watch Let's Plays :P

Nah, watching other people (unless its friends in the same room as me) is boring. I did however watch a six hour 'movie' of cutscenes because I couldn't be bothered to finish off Final Fantasy XIII but I wanted to know how it ended.

If you want to follow the full story you might. V is part of the "Pre-Metal Gear" storyline, if you want to catch up you may wish to play Snake Eater and Peace Walker since they are the two games before Ground Zeroes/Phantom Pain in terms of the timeline.

Or you could watch this

And a new trailer

I watched that recap as a bit of a refresher course....I am more confused now.

Question for those of you more familiar with the series than I...

I've played the first two games, but not 3 or 4. Will I be missing out massively if I jump straight into 5?

You'll be missing out if you haven't played 3, and Peace Walker would help too. 4 is less necessary, but there will no doubt be a few callbacks to that game because Kojima loves that kind of thing.

Yea MGS3 and Peace Walker are pretty vital going into MGSV.  Big Boss goes through phases as the games progress

So while this is the game to see how he became the villain of MG and MG2, MGS3 and MGS:PW are kinda important to see how he gets to this point
