The Martian is a comedy?

The book has a lot of comedic elements and most of it has to do with the copious amounts of updates that Matt Damon's character gives that just couldn't at all be included in the film. So, I get why they're categorizing it as a comedy despite it being a bit of a reach.

That's a pretty interesting movie section overall. Some really great performances that I wasn't expecting to see made it in there (awww yess, dude from Bridge of Spies!).

The TV section is the TV section at the Golden Globes. It doesn't really matter.

Actually, I love what happened in the TV section. Look at how many network TV shows were nominated.

Only because there aren't any new network shows that captured their short attention span this year.

The Martian being nominated as a comedy, Joy being nominated at all when its not even out yet, and Black Mass not having any nominations are all bullshit.

And what the fuck is Carol? Never even heard of it until the announcements.

Carol is the newest movie by Todd Hayne about a lesbian relationship in the 1950s. Debuted at Cannes and has been getting lots of rave reviews. It gets a wider release around Christmas. It probably will be nominated for some Oscars, so it isn't a bad idea to catch it.

And Joy isn't "out" yet, but there are reviews (not great ones) floating around about it, so it probably has been seen by a few members of the HFPA.

RPS is right, Carol's likely going to get a bunch of Oscar nominations and there's been so much buzz about it for months. Completely worthwhile too, it's by far and away my favourite film of the year.

And not exactly surprising Joy is up for stuff. It's not unheard of to get nominations before films are commercially released, and it's a David O. Russell film, and festivals and the Academy alike seem strangely desperate to give his stuff awards.

Haven't seen Black Mass, but from what I've heard, it's not exactly a ridiculous thing that it hasn't been nominated for much. But again, I haven't seen it. I didn't know people that bothered about the Golden Globes in general.

Black Mass seemed like a movie I have seen so many times before. it is a movie where the lead actor over acts and the whole movie is lots of "complex" and "complicated" white men doing lots of violent and "complex" things. Pass.

I mean, with the actors it had in, the fact it wasn't really getting any coverage or hype from anywhere seemed to suggest it wasn't going to be great. I still think the trailer looked decent enough, and I imagine I'll get round to it, and hopefully be pleasantly surprised, but not holding my breath.
