I'm honestly surprised Celtic didn't try to get Larsson as manager.

He's said before he doesn't feel he's qualified yet for the job.

That's not even the worst part. The top 3 qualify and the 4th spot is assigned by rolling coefficient so if one of the big boys drop out of the top 4, they get assigned a spot anyway because of their coefficient. Say if West Brom overcome the odds to finish 4th and Man United finish 15th, United would still get the the 4th Champions League spot because of their coefficient.

I'm done with it if it goes through. That's not the Champions League, it's the European Money League.

One could argue that the 'four safe places' thing would have zero practical impact for at least a decade anyway, given the current gulf in coefficient points between 4th and 5th and the unlikelihood of French or Portuguese teams putting together consistent-enough performances any time soon. In a way though, that makes the idea even shittier. Like, even if everyone knows those countries have a virtual lock, why toss the thin facade of competition out the window? Why piss people off for the sake of no real difference?

...But that's just ridiculous.

If it were in place last season, Chelsea would have qualified for the Champions League from 10th. lol? :shifty:

With two penalties, one in injury time. I really hope they don't make the group stage. Drawing Dundalk and losing would be spectacular.

How do we pronounce Dundalk anyway?

It is ridiculous. There's literally no other reason for it than to protect to huge teams from ever not qualifying.

Dundalk is pronounced as it's spelled really. With the 'alk' pronounced like it is in walk!

Yaya Touré has not been included in Manchester City’s travelling party for Tuesday’s Champions League play-off first leg against Steaua Bucharest, casting further doubt over his future at the club under Pep Guardiola.

The Ivorian was also not involved in Saturday’s Premier League opening day win over Sunderland.

Jason Denayer, the Belgian centre-half, is also absent from the group that travelled to the Romanian capital amid reports of a possible move away from the club, though young players Angus Gunn, Tosin Adarabioyo and Angel Tasende have made the trip.

Leroy Sané remains injured, while Samir Nasri, Wilfried Bony and Eliaquim Mangala have been left out.
