Because y'all seem to be having scattered discussions about it in different threads, I thought I'd make one for you (also so I can find all the info in one place if I buy it cheap down the line ), as is Benji's eternal role.

Anyone else playing? I am really curious if anyone I know will find the planets I discover. You'll know because they all have Srar in the name

I am! Haven't found anything discovered by anyone else yet. So I'm naming things really stupid like.

 

Can you tell if/when someone visits your planets?

Don't think you can tell. Also I was dumb and for the first hour I was mining by either melee attacks or shooting things before I realized I had a mining laser

I haven't even left the starting planet and I've spent about 6 hours in total probably more on it. 

It's quite easy to lose yourself in the game and just wander around collecting materials, discovering locations, identifying plants, rocks and creatures and naming them.  Oh and trying to learn the native aliens language. 

I'm enjoying it so far it's a simple game with a nice easy concept. Simple learning curve and easy to get caught up in.

I done the exact same thing. I clicked the button by mistake after about an hour and was like OHHHHHH

I thought using like 90 bullets was kind of a steep price just to get some Iron out of some rock  I figured maybe it was just a bad game mechanic

Is this only online? I'm not sure if it's something that I'd enjoy but then again, it sounds pretty cool from the comments I've read from RPS and such. It might actually be the first game I buy and play online with people.

It's online technically (but can be played offline)....although the odds of you running into another player are very very slim.

Can you easily find friends if you wanted? Or do you kind of just shoot around the galaxy aimlessly and you just land where you land?

Two people "found" each other, but despite what was said pre-release, they weren't able to see each other.  No answer as to why though.

I really like the aliens I found, the Gek. So far, all their artifacts talk about them being some war-mongering race that will destroy everything else and rule the galaxy.

The one I met looked like Hyper-Chicken and let me feed him.

I found the gek on my starting planet. One of them blamed me for robbing stuff...even in space I am subject to shitty stereotypes

Something I was curious about is the planets like are they massively (realistically) huge or are they small enough to explore the whole thing relatively quickly? This is one game I'd consider getting a ps4 for but not sure now hearing the mixed reviews.

I mean I spent a good hour or so on my starting planet and was continually finding new things. That and there was a cave system too so exploring the underground adds time.

They are huge.  You can spend hours if not full days fully exploring one planet on foot.  With a fully-fueled ship, you could zip through most planets in a few minutes and hit some camps/interesting landmarks/etc.  In the early game, though, you won't have that luxury.

I am so on the fence about this. The idea of the game is something that gives me wonder but at the same time I read that Jim Sterling review (that his site was DDoS'd for) and I can see that being a very real thing as well after a bit.
