Well, the writing was on the wall that Liberty Media wanted their own guy in place and finally do away with Ecclestone, and they have done so quick and easily with little time for confusion or back and forth. Quick and 'painless'.

It truly is a new era of F1, with new regulations, a new McLaren hierarchy, and a brand new owner group of F1 who seemingly wants to see it thrive and push it into a new era themselves, rather than being distant and only reaping the dividents. Of course, it has to be seen whether things truly change, but I am being hopeful.

Of course, it doesn't discount Bernie, who despite being a nutjob for most of his tenure, is still the man who brought F1 into the spotlight of the world by hashing out critical TV Deals in the 70s that turned the sport from a rich man's jaunt into a professional racing class that was a place only for the true competitors. And he ushered in a lot of change over the years, which have turned F1 into the biggest sport on the planet, and a billion dollar business on top of all that.

His final decade was shaky, to say the least, with him being a nuisance as often as he did something useful, and he also drove the sport into the dubious side of the world with tracks in less than reputable nations seemingly purely for the millions of dollars that were kicked his (and CVC's) way. And the continued pay-walling of the sport, with little content beyond the race weekends have hurt the sport's viewership greatly.

But still, It's a big moment in time for the sport. And Bernie's contribution over the years can't be understated, for all intents he was F1.

Ross Brawn is back too, as managing director.

As many expected, although I am still pleasantly surprised and excited for the return of Ross to the F1, and now in a position in which he can affect the entire grid, in a positive way too I hope.

I feel having Ross in management is a great position for the guy, dude loves the sport a lot and he's got decades of valuable experience regarding what works and what doesn't, and he knows how to play the politico game and hopefully get the teams to play along with the upcoming changes to the sport.

So McLaren goes from looking a bit like the silver arrows to a bit like Arrows.

I'm a little too young to remember but is this what it was like watching Tyrell slowly fade away?

I loved the Cossie Arrows. Also, the Buzzing Hornets too!

Manor have folded after administrators failed to find a suitable buyer.

Attempts to find a buyer to save the Manor Formula 1 team have failed and it will close ahead of the 2017 season.

Manor went into administration earlier this month after efforts to secure much-needed financial investment had failed to reach fruition.

With the first pre-season test looming at the end of February, administrator FRP Advisory knew it was in a race against time to find a buyer.

Despite interest from potential purchasers - believed to include an Asian consortium - discussions never got far enough for FRP to feel comfortable that the finances were there to save the outfit.

With progress having stalled, FRP Advisory took the decision on Friday to call time on its hopes of saving the team - informing staff that no buyer would be found and deciding that Manor's parent company Just Racing Services would cease trading.

A statement issued by FRP Advisory said: "During recent months, the senior management team have worked tirelessly to bring new investment to the team to secure its long-term future, but regrettably were unable to do so within the time available and were left with no alternative but to place JRSL into administration to protect the best interests of the underlying businesses and in order to continue a search for a buyer.

"Since their appointment earlier this month the joint administrators at FRP Advisory have continued to work, with the support of senior management, to try and secure new investment into the business resulting in negotiations with a number of interested parties. During that period funding was secured to ensure payment of all staff salaries until 31 January 2017.

"Regrettably since the appointment of administrators no investment has been secured in the limited time available to continue the group in its present form.

"With no sustainable operational or financial structure in place to maintain the group as a going concern, the joint administrators have now ceased trading JRSL and unfortunately have had to send all staff home from work today Friday 27 January.

"While all 212 staff will be paid on Tuesday 31 January, all but a small handful of staff are expected be made redundant by the end of January."

Although the parent company of Manor - Just Racing Services - will cease trading, the company that holds the right to race in F1 - Manor Grand Prix Racing Ltd - is not in administration.

FRP administrator Geoff Rowley said he was saddened by the decision.

"It is deeply regrettable that the team has had cease trading and close its doors," he said.

"Manor is a great name in British motorsport and the team has achieved a great deal over the past two years, invigorated under new ownership.

"Operating and running an F1 team to the high standards demanded however requires significant ongoing investment.

"We would like to thank all the staff for their support and professionalism during this difficult process."

Tyrell fade away?

Tyrell are now Mercedes. Tyrell -> BAR -> Honda -> Brawn -> Mercedes.

The fact that Jaguar became Red Bull is even more astonishing considered how shit they were. Stewart were a well run side who sold at the right time, Jaguar were a proto BAR/Toyota with how much money they threw at F1 and getting fuck all for it

I know that Tyrell has "continued" but they were at one time a solid front runner. Before BAR bought them out their results steadily declined though. Could that sane fate be waiting for McLaren is what I meant.

I mean, Tyrrell and McLaren aren't a very good comparison in my opinion as McLaren have been established as one of the best teams historically throughout Formula 1 for decades and decades. Tyrrell had one era of being a top, top team really and were around as a midfield team for over 10 years after that success deserted them. Plus, McLaren's results have been pretty poor the last couple of years when you consider their previous successes. I think they'll be fine, it all depends what happens with the regulations and how well Honda adapt to them over the next couple of years.

Formula 1 fans have been offered a first look at a 2017 Formula 1 car design, after a farewell image from Manor staff revealed its windtunnel model.

Administrators for the Manor team announced on Friday that hopes of finding a buyer to save the team had faded, and it was being shut down.

In a bid to say goodbye, staff that had worked on the aerodynamics - including windtunnel technicians, chief designer Luca Furbatto and head of aerodynamics Nikolas Tombazis - posed with a 50% scale model of the MRT07 in a picture obtained by Autosport.

The car has been used as part of the team's development programme in the Mercedes windtunnel.

It is understood that the version on display was not the 2016 car adapted to the new 2017 rules, as the team could have entered had it found a last-minute buyer, but was instead the project it was planning to compete with before it hit financial trouble.

Although interpretations of the 2017 regulations have been made since the regulations were published, the Manor model is the first actual evidence of the direction teams are taking.

The new front wing clearly features the deltoid shaping required of the regulations, but also shows how the team was trying a more aggressive outwash tunnel and cascade arrangement to displace airflow across and around the front face of the tyre.

The innermost inverted L-shaped cascades work the much talked about Y250 vortex which directs airflow around the front of the car, to prevent interference from the tyres.

The nose is broad like it was on the 2016 Manor, but terminates above the front wing's neutral section rather than beyond it, as the team looks to improve how the air moves down the car by reducing the blockage caused by the longer nose.

The airflow conditioners that flank the sidepods are retained and may have helped to improve flow around the now wider sidepod shoulder.

The image also clearly shows the new rear wing shape, as hinted at previously by Ferrari's modified 2015 car used for Pirelli testing last year.
