Favourite Foreign Artists

Roster Depth Sicko No. 2

Recommended Posts

This may or may not have a dual-purpose for a thing I might run in The Cube. but I need to broaden my knowledge base for non-British and non-American bands. Genre and location don't matter, more variety will help if anything. EWB has some nice diverse tastes, and I know full well that a few of you get some random shit on Spotify's Discover Weekly, put that knowledge to good use!

My two contributions starting contributions to the thread, to show that I'm not just having you all do my work for me :shifty:

The Netherlands' own Within Temptation:

I heard that song years ago and have meant to go back to them for a while, perhaps posting them here will help to remind me :P

Japan's ONE OK ROCK:

These got brought to my attention when I'd heard they signed with Fueled by Ramen, pretty good in my opinion, their 8th album (Honestly thought they were pretty new, turns out they formed in 2005, this is why I need help opening my eyes to foreign music more) drops Friday, and I think this single is a good sign for it personally.

So yeah, share your favourite foreign artists! Get the word out on them before I hopefully start my Cube thing!

Denmark's New Politics are pretty decent. Caught them as support acts for Panic! and Fall Out Boy in 2013 and 2014.

Japan's Crossfaith are pretty fun if you like heavier stuff. Saw them at Reading in 2014.

Also saw The Royal Concept, of Sweden, that same year. Huge fan, they've had a couple of FIFA songs, nice, upbeat stuff.

I probably like more, but those are the three that jump out off the top of my head.

Netherlands: Delain (Symphonic metal)

Sweden: Sabaton (Power metal)

Finland: Nightwish (Symphonic metal), Northern Kings (Power metal)

Germany: Broilers (Punk), Skameleon (Ska punk)

----------------------------------------------------

Delain and Sabaton are two of my favourite bands whom I've seen live multiple times. Nightwish are probably well known enough that I don't need to say much about them, but their evolution as a result of three different singers is very interesting. Northern Kings are Finnish super band including Nightwish's Marco Hietala and really just do covers of well known songs. Skameleon are also a cover band. Broilers are probably the most obscure band I've named and I'm not really even sure how I discovered them beyond somehow on YouTube.

Okay, I'm not a massive fan of these guys because I only know this one song, but when someone suggested "Pakistani Political Rock" my interest piqued. Its catchy as anything and after a bit of digging about what they are singing about it is pretty hard hitting.

It doesn't count as foreign, but the perspective of an arguably under-represented POV in popular music from someone of Chinese-American descent - Jin. He often raps verses in Cantonese (he also did an album entirely in Cantonese), but really this is just an excuse for me to post one of my favourite songs:

The greatest foreign act of all time is without question the Danish pop group Junior Senior who existed for a hot minute in the 00s. They released two albums and an EP and they are amazing. They had one hit, but all of their songs are just pure sugar pop goodness with elements of disco and garage rock. The band is named after Junior (the young straight dude) and Senior (the old gay man). I remember buying each of their CD for 30$ each.

He'll qualify for what I'm doing fine, half of my African representation is UK grime artists :P

To that end, if there any specialists in South American or African music (outside of South Africa), please see forward :P

What's the idea, anyways?

I swear Move Your Feet was on a Worms game or something. I remember the video, it was brilliant.

It definitely charted over here. It was also in Looney Tunes: Back in Action, one of my favourite guilty pleasure films.

Their music has appeared in so many TV shows and movies, so it wouldn't be unbelievable for it to have popped up in a Worms game.
