When I first went to camp when I was 15, the first night was always a campfire. When the younger kids would go to bed, it would change from "camp-y" songs to guitar songs. The songbook was pretty outdated so the hits were all 60 and 70s songs. I didn't know anybody and was feeling a lot like an outsider. There were traditions, things that I had no idea about. And then they played Free Fallin' and it was the first song I knew. I have a pretty good singing voice, so some of the people near me kind of noticed as I was singing. It was how I became friends two of my closest friends and university roommates.

I'm a Tom Petty fan, but I wouldn't say I'm a major fan. Don't own any of his albums, but I love a lot of his songs.

When I think Tom Petty, I think of his performance in the Super Bowl 42 halftime show. I always think of that game when I hear "Free Fallin'". It ended up being the perfect song to foreshadow what happened later in the game with the Pats' hopes of going 19-0 falling to the Giants.
