If you want to go for a walk with me then the World Cup was a continuation of the biggest football tournament at the time, Olympics, and guess who won the first Olympic gold in football?

Its coming home, lads.

Just looked this up. Great Britain won at the first Olympics featuring football by virtue of playing exactly one match.

Oh no that means Scotland and Wales also won.

Is that good or bad?

I really don't know. It might not be a good thing, but I am okay with it. I don't like hot shoting coaches.

He has been nothing but solid for the longest time since he took over in 2006, only starting this year he seemed out of ideas and completely failed to adapt to a new generation of players. He should get a chance to learn from the current mistakes (even if they lead to a 'historic' disaster), but people will expect results soon (the first few games for the Euro 2020 qualifiaction have to go really well).

I feel like every betting agency in the world is gonna implode should England lose tomorrow. The payouts on any of those other sides making the final must be high.

Bookmakers set odds so that whatever the outcome is, they make money. You ever heard of a betting company going out of business?

It’s not a continuation. It’s a new thing. For it to be a continuation of the Olympics it would require the olympics to become the World Cup, but it didn’t. It was merely surpassed in importance by the World Cup. The continuation of the Olympic gold in football was - and is - the Olympic gold in football.

So, in short, I agree with you. It’s coming home, because Uruguay (who won the first one)/France (where the World Cup was first conceived)/ Switzerland (where the WC’s owners Fifa live)/ Brazil (the spiritual home of the World Cup) are going to win.

There was several reasons for that happening and none of them had to do with the income being brought in through the tables.

I think Stefan Kuntz, the current U21 coach, would be the only obvious candiate.

Some will probably call for Klopp or Tuchel or some other big names, but I can't see those leaving their current occupations. Germany is probably too proud to consider a non-German as coach (maybe an Austrian or Swiss, if desperate).

But then again both Völler and Klinsmann/Löw came out of nowhere the two last times, so who knows?
