MLS 2018

Opening weekend had quite a few surprises. Toronto lost at home to the Crew, and Atlanta got demolished in Houston. Atlanta are going to miss Carmona in midfield; they haven't replaced him and he was pivotal to stopping attacks last season.

But hey, Union won! Granted, we played a man up for 65 minutes and then two up for the end of the match. So really, hard to tell much. But it was nice seeing homegrowns like Fontana and Trusty start. Fontana got the opener, and despite some nervy moments, Trusty has some excellent recovery pace. His ability to get back and catch Aguedelo when he was clean through and win the ball with a sliding tackle was excellent.

And while it's too early to mean anything yet, TFC, NYRB, and Seattle all beat their Mexican counterparts in CCL QF action this week; 2-1, 2-0, and 1-0. It means nothing overall because we've seen MLS sides go into Mexico and wilt to the pressure there all too easily, but at least they're going in with confidence and a lead. It'd be amazing if all three qualify and we a guaranteed MLS side in the Finals.

He's a waste of money. He makes starter money, but he's a clear back up. He had the chance to play as a second striker off the bench, and his touch was so poor he kept losing the ball everytime. I can't believe he is still with the team after how invisible he was last season.

NYRB handled business and won 3-1 last night to advance, and hopefully will face Seattle in the semis if they take care of business tonight in Mexico. TFC almost bottled it late, but they went through on away goals, mainly thanks to a hell of a Seba free kick

Come on Seattle!

David Beckham has brilliantly forgot which Milan he played for and named his MLS team Inter Miami FC.

I stand corrected. Inter Miami CF. Needed more pretentious.

Transcript from Beckham HQ:

Beckham: "Can't think of a good name. Why don't we just call it Miami FC?"

Assistant 1: "There's already a Miami FC."

Beckham: "Well let's buy them out, we're already buying out the local politicians to make this happen."

Assistant 2: "They want nothing to do with us. You have to understand, Beckham... lots of futbol fans here hate you."

Beckham: "Hate me? Why?"

Assistant 1: "Your refusal to back already existing local teams due to an MLS or nothing mindset that they feel is toxic to the sport."

Beckham: "Yeah well, they said the Miami Fusion wouldn't succeed and look what happened there!"

Awkward silence.

Beckham: "...Anyway just call it something else, like Inter Miami FC or something, but better."

Beckham walks out.

Assistant 1: "Inter Miami FC work for you?"

Assistant 2: "Yeah. Let's order Chinese."
