Play in spring. They'll never get anywhere close to the talent that the NFL gets, particularly at QB, and regardless of how much money they throw at it they'll always be, functionally, a minor league, so the NFL probably won't give a shit unless they try and play during the fall.

I'm not sure how they expect this to work. The NFL isn't as strong as it ever was, but their issues (player safety, mostly) are going to effect the XFL just as badly, and are, in fact, the exact things the league was sold on last time. Don't get me wrong, I played my high school ball in the 90s, and that era of football is my favorite, but you simply cannot have that emphasis on, let's be honest, violence, in 2018.

So, you can't really be more violent than the NFL, and you certainly can't be less violent, that'll never sell. That leaves you two options, use basically the same rules, which means you can't compete, or go out of the box, but even the Arena League is basically dead.

Maybe if you could come up with a AFL/NFL hybrid, combine the speed and excitement of the Arena game with the size and scope of the NFL, but I'm pretty sure (listened to a podcast recently) that you actually can't use the nets due to copyright, so...

I honestly don't see anyway it succeeds. The only league to successfully challenge the NFL had Lamar Hunt and Al Davis, among others, and a much smaller NFL to contend with.

I was thinking that, honestly, they should hire a bunch of crazy spread coaches (go get Mouse Davis) and take advanage of the athletic QBs coming out of college that the NFL forces to change position (or simply ignores), but then I realized that it would just be the BigXII, but worse.
