This year's games run from Friday until February 25th. They will feature 102 events in 15 sports, making it the first Winter Olympics to surpass 100 medal events. Four new disciplines in existing sports were introduced to the Winter Olympic programme in Pyeongchang, including big air snowboarding, mixed doubles curling, mass start speed skating, and mixed team alpine skiing.

In terms of participating countries, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Eritrea, Ghana, Kenya, a unified Korean female ice hockey team, North Korea, Kosovo, Madagascar, Malaysia, Nigeria, Puerto Rico, and Singapore will take part, having not done so in Sochi 2014; and from those games we are losing the British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Nepal, Paraguay, Peru, Russia (following the doping controversy, the Russian National Olympic Committee was barred, and the Russian athletes are instead participating as Olympic Athletes from Russia), Tajikistan, US Virgin Islands, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe.
