Premier League 2018/19

Can't let a week pass without the club finding a new farce to descend into, after all.

Not keen on that article's suggestion that Lampard is the most likely candidate. Derby have been a playoffs-or-thereabouts team for over half a decade so it isn't like he's performed any miracles. Club legends returning as managers is a demonstrably ineffective solution to long-term issues; let the man continue to prove his chops in the Championship for a few years before even considering him for the job.

If Lampard came to Chelsea now it would be an utterly self-destructive decision on his part.

Maybe the club could say something like "look, given the transfer ban and other assorted bollocks, you can finish 10th or whatever in your first year and we'll give you a free pass" - but even if they did (and he somehow believed them), there would still be that toxic element of the fanbase who would find a way to turn on him after even a few sub-par results.

That's a huge issue with all top 6 clubs at this point - instant results are expected and it'll be interesting to see the reaction of Liverpool or Man City fans if they struggle next season - which is certainly possible, every time Liverpool have finished second going back to 1991 in the days of the old division 1 the season after they finish second they finish 5th or below. It's certainly unlikely, but good will is something that diminishes quicker and quicker nowadays.

Feel like we are in a completely different place compared to a lot of previous Liverpool teams.

Under Rafa there was the ongoing civil war between him and the owners and the club as a whole was becoming toxic.

Under Houllier, well we just did our usual start strong, awful middle of the season, decent end of the campaign. Got beat by Chelsea final day who got 4th as a result.

Under Brendan we sold Suarez and replaced him with Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli... enough to kill off any potential title challenge. That and we were shite.

We aren't selling any of this current first team. 97 points won't be replicated but the club behind the scenes and on the pitch and the fans are totally in sync and well we've just the fucking European Cup for a 6th time. Jurgen could stroll on the pitch and take a dump in the centre circle and it would get cheered

I can’t see a massive shit the bed moment for this Liverpool team, they’re constantly evolving so the easy counter to the way they play.

They just need the unadulterated strength of City to falter a little, again not something I can see.

As Liverpool are playing for 7 trophies this coming season, I would like to see a utility defender come in and a series partner for Van Dijk, though Matip is fine or even continue converting Gomez in to that role is good.

Very few players can/should leave, Lallana and Moreno (and the squad players on loan) are the only ones off the top of my head that I feel should move on, unless someone is offering serious money for him I would actually keep Mignolet as no.2 and use him in the club world cup, league cup etc.

Liverpool are going to be in a very enviable place next season with a fully fit squad at their disposal, the utility in midfield, five forwards who can all do a job plus a glut of strong young players where there are the extra games for the club to bed them in, it’s intriguing.

During his time at Chelsea, Hazard helped the club win two Europa League titles, two Premier Leagues and a League Cup.

The Mail has stolen Hazard's FA Cup win from him. :(

      Wild and bold predictions, ahoy.
    • By Lineker
Fixtures for the new Premier League season will be released at 9am tomorrow morning, so let's make some predictions for the new season which will probably look stupid in six months or so:
Spurs will only scrape top-4 due to the Wembley effect. Pep's Man City will struggle again due to Ederson failing to settle. Arsenal to finish 6th. Huddersfield and Brighton will survive. Newcastle will be relegated with a different manager in place by Christmas. Watford will be relegated. Bournemouth will finish above Southampton. Bilic or Puel will be the first manager to be sacked. Talking of Newcastle...

Fixtures for the new Premier League season will be released tomorrow morning, so let's make some bold predictions for the new season ahead:
Leicester will only manage a top-ten finish. Chelsea will only make the Europe League spots at best. Top 4 of Man City, Man Utd, Spurs and Arsenal. In what order I have no idea. Liverpool will just miss out towards the very end of the season. Watford to continue to struggle under a new manager, particularly if one of Deeney or Ighalo leave, and get relegated. Bournemouth build on last season and do well again. Hull to straight back down to the Championship with Middlesborough. Burnley to just scrape survival, at the expense of... let's say Crystal Palace. Koeman's Everton to finish below his old club Southampton despite spending a metric fuckton of money. Pulis (WBA) or Guidolin (Swansea) to be sacked first.

So yeah, it was kind of getting lost in the talks of actual football, but if you'd like to join the EWB Fantasy Premier League, the code is below. Use this thread for fantasy team discussions and such.

I remember a while ago we used to predict who would finish where in the table so I thought I'd put EWB to the test and see who was the best at predicting what would happen in the Prem this season. Who will be our version of Paul the Octopus and who will be as good as predicting things as Mark Lawrenson. There will be 5 questions with a total of 100 points up for grab and come the end of the season I will add all the points up to crown our first winner.
Question 1) Top goal scorer (5 points for correctly guessing the top scorer, A extra 10 points is awarded for guessing top scorer and amount of goals)
Question 2) Most assists (5 points for correctly guessing the top assist maker, A extra 10 points is awarded for guessing top and amount of assists)
Question 3) First team to sack their manager (10 points)
Question 4) Predict the table (2 points for each correct position,
Question 5) Predict the three teams which get promoted to the Prem (5 points for each team guessed correctly, If you get all three correct; a extra 5 points is awarded)

      Here are my answers:

      1) Diego Costa - 22 goals
      2) Coutinho- 14 Assists
      3) Watford will sack their manager first
      4) Chelsea, Man.Utd, Man.City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, Swansea, Southampton, Everton, Stoke, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Newcastle United, West Brom, Aston Villa, Leicester, Sunderland, Bournemouth, Norwich, Watford
      5) QPR, Middlesbrough, Hull City
