'The Graps' in Music

I like wrestling. I like music. I like it when music references wrestling. What are some of your favourite instances? Mine are:

"I’m like Stone Cold Steve Austin, I put homophobes in coffins -
I’m like Ted DeBiase, I win no matter what it costs me"
IDLES, "Colossus"

"I Jake the Snake ‘em, DDT ‘em in mausoleums"
Run the Jewels, "Blockbuster Night Part 1"

The entirety of "Ric Flair Drip".

There was a band called Gordon Solie Mother Fuckers.

I think Pee Lander Z has a song called Terry Funk.

Then there is this band called Harvey Milk with a song called Dick Slater. I really don't know if it's about the wrestler because I can't understand what the fuck they're saying.

Do I even need to mention Wale?

  • Lil' B the BasedGod has a mixtape called GOLD DUST MIXTAPE, with... old school '96 Goldust w/ IC title on the cover.
  • Action Bronson has a song called Barry Horowitz.
  • Smoke DZA releases a mixtape around WrestleMania every year. This year was Ringside 6.
  • Migos' To Hotty has a line about Scotty 2 Hotty.
  • Cam'ron has a song dedicated entirely to Ric Flair.
  • I'm pretty sure Pusha T has referenced Ric Flair more than once - I know for sure he shouted him out on the "I Don't Like" remix off the GOOD Music comp album.
  • The greatest rapper of all time, MF DOOM, name dropped Kurt Angle on the Madvilliany album.

See Goats; The Mountain

The Mountain Goats were the answer to a question in The Times quiz a few weeks ago, and I got the answer right and looked really smart at work.

How could you forget 'Do The Crusher' by The Novas?

Aside from those already mentioned;

"Johnny Kwango" by The Bevis Frond

Luke Haines did a whole album about British wrestling, and referenced Kendo Nagasaki on at least one previous track ("Leeds United"). Half Man Half Biscuit also referenced Kendo from time to time.

I actually know that as a Cramps song. But they covered a million obscure old garage tunes.

You did remind me of the Ramones “The Crusher” from their last album. That’s a fun wrestling song.

I linked the original, but my favorite version is by Manic Hispanic.

"Go hard like Iverson playing with hurt ankles / Plus, wrestle the topic from a different Kurt Angle"

- Talib Kweli, In The Mood

"So if you're mixing with GarageBand, video on the flip cam / I'm a big fan, you got more heart than Bret The Hitman"

- Talib Kweli, Uh Oh

"Back with Andre The Giant, mister elephant tusk / Fix your musk, you'll be just another one bit the dust"

Eminem, Crack A Bottle
