I'd be interested in either kind of format. I've always had problems with fantasy hockey in the past because it doesn't mimic the sport terribly well, with an over-reliance on top line players. I'd dream of a scenario where leagues are won by finding the best actual 3rd and 4th line guys to round out my team's 3rd and 4th lines as well as penalty kills and backup goalies, but just giving me the chance to check everything one or two days a week and be set for the rest is a great start.

I'm in either way although I'll admit I'm not a big fan of not taking into account Monday and Tuesday. What if your players have their best games those days?

Wouldn't it be better to follow yahoo's rules for the most part but change it so you'd select your players for the whole week?

If the goal is to reward those who drafted well and not those who have the time and patience to change their team every day, that would help.

The idea of "bye days" would be to basically make it similar to fantasy football: in the NFL, games take place thursday through monday, and then you have tuesday and wednesday off during which you can add or subtract players via waivers and trades. If the league were scoring every single day, it would be very difficult to track such transactions; if there's a 48 hour waiver wire between wanting to sign a free agent and seeing if any other team who is worse wants to add them, when do you cut off when you have to set your rosters?

Also, since I'd have to do scoring manually, my plan would be to do them on sunday nights after the games. Then we'd take a few days to make adjustments before the next week begins. Scoring X players for X teams in X categories for X days gets more and more complicated when you increase X.

But this is a proposal and I am open to suggestions.

I'm happy with the Yahoo every day format, but I also do it for baseball and basketball during the year, so its no big thing for me.  Gives me something to do during the mornings at work.  Haven't played fantasy hockey in quite some time, I'd give a go this year.  I'll be relying mostly on ESPN and Yahoo rankings because the only hockey stat I'm really confident in my knowledge of right now is fuck John Tavares.

I would play!

Also I remember a buddy of mine used to play a weekly league through Yahoo a few years ago if you wanted to go through a site like that, I imagine ESPN could be set up the same way?

You could also just enlarge the rosters and not have any bench spots.  Then its set it and forget it.  Your entire team remains active all the time.

This... Is an interesting idea.

I don’t even think you need to max out the rosters, you should just be able to set 0 bench spots.

What should we use as rosters? I am thinking 9/6/2. Maybe 9/4/2? Keeping in mind the need to draft all these dudes.

How many teams should we run with?

Thoughts on scoring and how to weight what?

So I went in and set the rosters like so:

2 C, 2 LW, 2 RW, 3 F, 4 D, 2 G, with two IR spots. Rosters are set to update once a week on mondays.

Scoring is goals, assists, shots on goal, faceoffs won, hits, and blocks, and for goalies, wins, shutouts, and a minus for a goal against.

Still open to feedback but if you want to join that would be swells.

I feel like if we can get 8 people this will be a really fun, competitive league.  I petition for PIM to be included in score.  Give love to the goons!

Could add PIM. I think Yahoo said by default it had switched scoring for PIM to scoring for hits.

Someone named Mike! joined. I am excited! Hello Mike! I am Sean!

I haven't played fantasy hockey in ages. Are these the default yahoo scoring settings?

No, they're custom and adjustable.

BTW could everyone mention in here who they are vs who they are in Yahoo? One of you guys who has joined wants to get really friendly with John Taveres.

Oh that makes sense, much better idea.  Yay hits!

Hi, I'm Mike! Fuck John Tavares!
