Was well into my 20s when I realized two things from some of my favorite movies when I was a kid.

Didn't realize when I was a kid that, when Marty is playing "Johnnie B. Goode", when the other guitarist in on the phone and goes "Charles, its your cousin Marvin, you know, MARVIN BERRY!"  didn't realize he was letting Chuck Berry listen to his own song.

Also, in Monster Squad, after they finally meet and talk to Scary German Guy and realize he isn't really scary.  When they are leaving is house, the kids say something like "Wow, you sure know a lot about monsters!"  He goes "Yes, I suppose I do." when I was a kid, I never realized the tattoo on his arm when the camera pans down is a concentration camp tattoo

It took me ages to realize that Buffalo Bill from Silence Of The Lambs and Captain Stottlemeyer of Monk were played by the same guy. Same for "Gomer Pyle" in Full Metal Jacket and Detective Goren from Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
