  1. I don't think its so much that ben has an oedipus complex but more about him wanting to remember the mother he never knew. That is why he is so obsessed with finding out why mothers die on the island. he feels guilty for his mother's death so he basically tries to honor her legacy in anyway he can. He also never got to be around her so anyone that resembles her he would fall in love with. Not to mention that Juliet is also on the island to find out why mothers die and Ben's mother died during early pregnancy. Also Ben probably wants Juliet to be his because he wants someone who looks like his mom around since he never knew her. It all pretty much revolves back to him feeling guilty that he killed his mother, as Roger (Workman) said.
  2. bingo. It's about the incumbent party. ←
  3. I know I'm late getting into this thread but meh. I'm not a huge NBA fan, I'd rather watch hours of NCAA before watching NBA but I've been following it as it has come up on sportscenter and on CBS Sportsline... I'd like to see the Pacers and Timberwolves in the finals. Jermaine O'Neal, once he gets healthy, is a great player. Garnett is a great player too. I think that would make a great series between both teams. The Pacers will have trouble this year now that they have to get by Shaq and Wade to go to the finals. Although personally after I watched Wade in the Olympics I haven't liked him. He just didn't play well in alot of those games and took stupid shots. The Wolves will have a tough year too with Spree wanting out of Minnesota and Wally having trouble with Garnett and should be traded because of that. I'd doubt the lakers going to the playoffs with kobe. Odom is a good player but I'd expect him to be pissed that Kobe isn't giving him the ball... oh wait that hasn't happened yet. I'd expect the heat in the finals against god knows who, Spurs or Rockets I guess. I think Deng and Duhon will have a good chance of changing the thoughts on Duke players in the NBA. Duke players play more as a team and since those two will be playing on the same team they will be familiar with each other and be able to do more things. That was painful to say since I'm a UNC fan though. I do like the Bulls team now. Hinrich, Gordon, Deng, Chandler and Curry will be a great team this year and should be elite in the near future. Chandler and Curry are 22. Goron is 21. Deng is 19. And Hinrich is the oldest of the 5, still he is only 23. Amazingly young team with great potential. Should be a good year for NBA
  4. I think he meant arguing the call... Slapping the ball was unacceptable though. I wasn't as pissed off at that as I was when Tim McCarver said "You have to hold the ball in your bare hand then the ball won't get loose" NO! Dumbass, you learn not to in little league. I defended him earlier but I can't for that... he has been doing this for so many years now. Oh and the other thing was when they interviewed that little girl Joe Buck came back and repeated what she had just said! That isn't needed to fill time. Just say what you have said minus the repeat. I'm noticing what announcers say now because I've been announcing football games for school and learning the correct way to do it. Yes it does take learning experiance to do it as it looks easy but when you get there you are stuck.
  5. What did you want Pedro to do? He had 3 choices: 1. Move out of the way 2. Throw him down 3. Take the hit. Even if he had moved out of the way Zimmer was hunched over so much that when he tried to take out Pedro if Pedro moved Zimmer would have fallen down anyway. Don's momentum would not have held him up. He went with this one. Anyone who would just stand there and take a hit is stupid. In football they take hits but they don't just stand there waiting, they move out of the way. Pedro did nothing wrong and if you were in Pedro's shoes you would have done the same thing. I'll admit I would have. Either way someone falls to the ground, human nature would make you protect yourself. Also from previous comments about game 3... Yes it is embarrassing for the Sox to lose by that much but at least it was to a good team. I mean it isn't like they happened to lose to the Indians...by say... 22-0. Also about "No team has won a series in baseball when down 3-0" stuff. That stat is irrelevant. It would be nice to see on SportsCenter during "Did you know" but it doesn't mean that the Red Sox won't win. I'm not saying that they will or will not win but that stat just doesn't mean a thing. History repeats itself but Streaks and Records have been broken alot during this 5 games. Again, great "Did you know?" but Irrelevant to game 6, or game 7. Also my guess is that Schilling will need help anywhere from the 4 til the 6th and it will be hard since most of the bullpen pitched last night. So there is a pretty good chance that the Yankees will move onto the Series tonight. Although it might be one of those things but if he can't get any "push" from his ankle then the offensive needs to be working hard.

It is interesting that MLB would make that shirt. I could see some New York company making it. I'm not to sure what it is like outside of Yankee stadium but outside Fenway there are lots of shirts that pokes fun at Yankee players... For example: A jersey that says "Gay-Rod" on the back, A shirt that says "Jeter sucks A-Rod". I doubt they were made by MLB though. It may have been by "YankeesStillSuck.com" I don't blame MLB from trying to make money off a rivalry. Other leagues have done it in the past, like my dad has a shirt that says "I root for 2 teams, the redskins and who ever is playing the cowboys" I wouldn't blame NCAA for making money from a Duke/UNC shirts or Texas/Oklahoma. It is a great way to make money and plenty of fans of the teams would buy it in spite of thier rivals.

    MLB Thread

I was talking to a yankee's fan today at my pre-pre-season baseball practice (not just out of the blue, he is the scorekeeper for my baseball games) and last week I wore a red sox hat, this week he said to me "Where is that stupid Red Sox hate you wore last week?" I laughed and said "Don't worry, I'll wear it when they get to the World Series. Then he made a very interesting point: Even if the Red Sox win the World Series they will just be another team with a bad record in it. It is more magical when they lose. That was very interesting point. When you think about it then it is true. For example: We remember Aaron Boone's homerun, we remember Buckner. Will we remember that the curse is broken? 10, 15, 20 years from now will we say "Oh year Boston had that curse for almost 100 years and they broke it in 2004." The curse will slip our mind quickly.

I have been telling people the twins would take the series for awhile now but the only thing is when will the Twins decide to start Santana again? I'd say game 5 (if needed). Only 2 times I would start Johan after the 1st game is [*] The twins are up 2-2 and need a win to take the series. [*] The Yankees go up 2-1. By doing the first option then Johan gets enough rest to come out and win. I don't expect the yanks to go up 2-1 though because either Radke will win or the twins will take a game at home. This was most likely the most important game 1 of the Divisional Series. There isn't much to say about Sox/Angels. Tonight will be tough for Colon. Yes Pedro hasn't been doing well but I have a feeling he will break this and win a game. Even if he doesn't the Angels go to Boston to play a game. I had the pleasure of being in Boston this year and I got to watch the Red Sox take on the D-Rays. Even though it was the D-Rays and the Sox were winning by 13 the crowd was into it. I don't think the Angels can steal this series. Again not too much to say about St. Louis and the Dodgers. St. Louis will easily take this series. The bats are too strong. If the Dodgers were facing anyone else in the playoffs they would win but St. Louis just seems unstoppable so far this year. Astros/Braves Are the Braves underrated? I'd say yes. But I doubt they will win the series. They won more games than Houston but there is too much behind Houston that can power them through. If the Braves can take both homes games there is a slight chance they will pull out the series but I just can't see that happening. I don't think the Braves will be able to win at Houston either. Houston needs to win one of the games in Atlanta and the series is over.
  10. But if you induct him into the hall of fame then whos to say that someone who is breaking records now (like Barry Bonds) can't start gambling and think its okay because Pete Rose did it and he is in the hall of fame now? In other words: Lets say Pete Rose gets inducted into the Hall of Fame... In 2034 someone breaks Pete Rose's record... He then feels that he is bigger than baseball and breaks a rule that can get him suspended because since he broke the record he should be in the H.O.F. because Pete Rose got inducted after breaking a rule. Keeping him out sets a good example for anyone getting into MLB. It shows that no matter how many records you break, No one is bigger than baseball.
  11. That'll probably be announced closer to 2009, since they'll most likely choose a young, up and coming comedian at the time. ←
  12. I was seconds away from posting this when I decided to hit refresh to see that you posted it... I'm kind of worried that Conan will have to tone down his jokes now that he is on the 11:35 slot. Plus I wouldn't be suprised if he started to get Jaded of this because in 2009 that will be his 16th season of the show. I know he is closing in on his 2000th show coming up and that is alot of shows for one person to do. I was excited to hear this, great news and Conan has deserved it for years but Leno has been doing a good job getting ratings so NBC was really inbetween a rock and a hard place. Here's to 5 more years at 12:35 and hopefully another 16 at 11:35. Edit: Didn't see ringmasters post... but remember that Leno talks about weed almost every show so I wouldn't thing he would have to lower it alot. I doubt we will see the masturbating bear anymore.
