  1. By complete coincidence I just signed Danny Drinkwater from Man Utd 6 days earlier than he signed for Leicester in real life.
  2. As I've found. Just won the first game of the season 2-0 away to Crystal Palace. I'm hoping to grab promotion at the first attempt just to put me on the right track. My first action was to bring in the best possible backroom staff and make sure that my facilities were up for improvement at the end of the first season, both for the long term benefits. My biggest foray in the transfer market has been £2.1m to bring in Slovenian LB Bojan Jokic to challenge and eventually replace highest earner Paul Konchesky. I also brought in Sean Davis on a season long loan to bolster the midfield but didn't want to fork another £1m for a 31yr old. Missing out on Stephen Kelly to Swansea as a replacement for 30yr old RB John Pantsil was a bit of a set back but I did manage to set up an end of season £500k sale of Aleksander Tunchev to Norwich. Tunchev might also be 30 but he's still my best CB. Also boosting my midfield ranks are Stoke's Diego Arismendi in on loan, Davide Petrucci on a free from Man Utd, and £575k for Chelsea's Billy Clifford. Arismendi has the option to become permanent if he makes a difference this season but I'm hoping that Petrucci and Clifford can help more in the long term. Perhaps my biggest coup though was bringing in a highly prospective striker for just £80k. I hope this Harry Kane guy develops quickly enough to help my reach my five-season target.
  3. I opted not to go for FM17 in the end but I did just come up with a fun short term FM12 challenge for myself. I'm gonna attempt to replicate Leicester City's Premier League win no later than their real life success. I'm not even entirely sure whether Leicester were in the top flight for the 11/12 season so it should be an interesting one to load up.
  4. What kinda challenges present themselves on FM17 that aren't generic ones like Pentagon, San Marino, British Steel, etc?
  5. Eh, the last new release game I bought was GTA V so I doubt I'd get FM18 any time soon. Its only really the 80% discount, plus it fitting my trend of starting with FM07 and then waiting five years to get another one, which is making me consider it. The downside is I'm now so out of touch with modern football that the names wouldn't mean anything to me, so its really only new game features which would be a selling point. Other downsides are being over a decade into my third attempt at a San Marino challenge, and about to finish my fourth season of a British Steel Challenge.
  6. How does it compare to FM12? I'm still playing that.

88 Fingers Louie were supposed to be playing a gig where I work but we've had to cancel it because the guy who gave us the gig did a runner with the money from a previous show

    Doctor Who

Fair point with the action character. Bill was definitely an improvement upon the majority of companions since Rose seemingly made romantic undertones a necessity. It was only when someone pointed out that Bill's sexuality was referenced in more episodes than not that I really even noticed it, but it was only in her goodbye to the Doctor in the finale that it felt ham-fisted. I disagree that choosing a male companion would make the casting seem like a publicity gimmick but that would be the responsibility of the writers more than anyone else.

    Doctor Who

I'm now actually sure what I want in a new companion seeing as we have no idea what the Doctor's new personality will be like. I have a hankering for an action-type ala Harry Sullivan and Captain Jack but I imagine that would lead to claims they're being positioned over the leading role just because it's a woman now.

    Doctor Who

I totally agree. The only thing I've seen Jodie Whittaker in is Black Mirror and I don't particularly remember her performance. I know that the episode is generally considered to be the best one of the lot but its actually my least favourite so I'm not in any hurry to watch it again. The best thing to do seems to be to just wait and judge her performance within the role itself. Even then, the 50th anniversary special proved to me that it isn't the actor's performance which makes the biggest difference for me, but the writing itself.

    Doctor Who

Which was dealt with when 11 regenerated into 12 and, at the very least, reset the counter as far as the limit is concerned.

  15. A gimmick that transcends the multiverse.
  16. Finished watching GLOW last night and my favourite minor, totally irrelevant, detail about the whole series is that Brodus Clay and Carlito are playing brothers and happen to share the same birthday in real life. I only know this because it's also my birthday.

    Doctor Who

I incorrectly recalled them dropping the 'C' from the chest plate before breaking through but its possibly one of those changes which simply isn't addressed. Also, in checking out a clip from the Daleks vs. Cybermen episodes it quickly refreshed my memory of just how much I disliked those first few years. I genuinely don't think I could force myself to re-watch many RTD era episodes.

When I scrolled through the names my brain may have inadvertently merged Brendan Coyle and Hugh Fraser together.

    Doctor Who

The bit that always got me was how Simm's incarnation was theoretically locked in the Time War after finding out the Rassilon was responsible for his lifelong insanity. As far as I'm aware there also hasn't been any acknowledgement of any previous interactions which would indicate a similar level of chronological progression shared by the two characters. It would totally make sense for the fact that both of them can travel through time, meaning any incarnation could bump into another at any point in the other's timeline, would be used on TV at some point. It might be a little too complicated for a casual audience though. The Master has only been seen regenerating once (Jacobi to Simm), and clearly knows how to steal other peoples' bodies, which means they have a lot of backstory to play around with if they so choose.
