  1. Room for one more in that one if you fancy a free session zero.
  2. Wahey! Which one was it? I've got ten on the boil at the moment. I do offer a free session zero if ever you're keen to jump in and test the waters. My Aussie group is generally pretty cool: married couple and a laid back Queenslander make up half of my evening slots. They're playing in my Rime of the Frostmaiden and Ghosts of Saltmarsh, with two of them also being in our podcast. Two of them are even playing in my upcoming Pathfinder game as well. If ever you're keen to just jump into our Discord and have a chat, I reckon you'd find it a pretty good group How are you liking it? My group just opted to call it quits after their third or fourth TPK. It's a fantastically atmospheric module, but it really fell apart with the group constantly getting themselves killed doing reckless/stupid stuff. We're rebooting next week in a Ghosts of Saltmarsh campaign that promises to be a lot less brooding and lethal.
  3. Not all at once haha. Sessions are capped at six players, but there is a player pool of 22 (each with 1-5 characters) that can go out on any given mission.
  4. It is one I haven't had a chance to play around with yet, sadly! ----- I just launched a West Marches game a few weeks ago. Started with five players doing a single one-shot into the wilderness. Now I've got 22 players, running 3-4 sessions of adventures a week, and loving it. Something really fun about a player-driven, open world rather than the rails of a campaign.
  5. CR is busted too. Almost TPKed one of my ToA parties with a 'hard' random encounter (their only encounter of the day) when two ankylosaurus zombies and two girallon zombies almost massacred them. Wizard got critically hit for 37 damage while down to 9 hit points for an instant-kill, two others were unconscious, and I had to have an NPC intervene to avoid a complete disaster.
  6. I don't know how I feel about rugby league and rugby union sharing a thread, but just wanted to comment on how ass backwards the British Super League is. Kick out an international franchise with growth potential and big home crowds prior to promotion, let in another club from a mining town. Got to be the worst run professional sports league going.
  7. Binged the first three episodes of season five of The Expanse today. That show really has gone from strength to strength, especially these past few Amazon seasons.
  8. It has definitely made my year much more bearable, both financially and to help with the isolation. My wife and I came here as part of our honeymoon and got stranded, and while we've made a few friends, multiple lockdowns and our tight budget have meant staying in is a necessary evil. Having a D&D game 6 out of 7 days helps with that.
  9. Once the players defeat Auril, there's a bunch of stuff about a half-buried Netherese city. There are essentially three primary antagonists: a duergar trying to build a dragon, Auril, and this creepy city. It's all rather freeform, which is a bit weird when it is sold as a big battle against Auril.
  10. Just saw this part. Frostmaiden is very cool, but horribly structured. Its sandbox style isn't really conducive to players actually finding or connectin with the central narrative, which means a lot more DM work. It's also hindered by the fact the apparent main villain is somebody you deal with in chapter five of a seven chapter book, which causes a bit of a weird transition in the middle.
  11. What's the premise? I ran a super involved, low fantasy, high-RP game set in an East Asian setting last year that ran for eighteen months. It was a blast and a really nice change from swords & sorcery, but damned if it wasn't a lot of work to run.
  12. It is! I believe you still get every content release for free, including the controversial recent one (War of the Three Peaks) that was a mini-expansion that cost money, where before they have been free for subscribers. But lifetime membership is still definitely a thing. Shit, I'd pay good money for a lifetime account haha
  13. Yeah, it takes up a lot of my time, but I've got plenty of it with us now in lockdown again). Running: Three Tomb of Annihilation (two weekly and one fortnightly) Two Curse of Strahd Two Rime of the Frostmaiden One Night Below/homebrew One homebrew/Keep on the Borderlands One West Marches One Rappan Athuk I've been getting plenty of practice prepping stuff on the fly and a lot of encounters can easily be repurposed and reflavored for different campaigns, but I'd say I spend 2 hours a week prepping for each game, four hours running them, and another 30-45 minutes per game doing a session summary. It definitely isn't as lucrative as my old gig, but I'm running enough games that it at least feels like the time spent is worth the payoff. ------ How are you liking Dragon Heist? It's the only 5e adventure I've not read yet.
  14. They do a really good job of being (largely) faithful to the books. The depth of the lore and the quality of the writing is really good, and it's fun to follow along just behind the Fellowship as they travel to Mordor. The narrative has actually gone beyond the books now, with the One Ring being destroyed two years ago and Aragorn & Arwen's wedding being a big event midway through the year. We're now helping the dwarves reclaim Gundabad in the upcoming expansion.
  15. Typical hobbits, always sneaking and hiding. With the recent purchase of Daybreak Games and the rumoured graphical improvements, it's a much needed boost for the game. It still turns a tidy profit despite its relatively low profile, so it's good to see it getting a bit of love.
  16. Sorry to resurrect an old topic, but I figure there's no need to start a new one just to discuss the game. Is anybody else playing this one? While I know it is old as shit and its graphics can be a bit potato, I've been playing pretty consistently for the last few years. There's something really relaxing about wandering around Middle Earth, doing the semi-regular festivals for cosmetics etc. and interacting with the world. With so many MMOs very much about the grind to the top, I like to alternate between my more competitive games (WoW and Neverwinter, with a bit of DDO mixed in) with something more laid back. If anybody is playing and on Laurelin, feel free to hit me up!
  17. D&D has been a godsend for me in 2020. With my day job in safari sales drying up almost overnight, I decided to take the plunge and run a paid game of D&D. Then another. And another. And another. I'm now running ten paid campaigns of D&D (nine a week), including a West Marches campaign that runs 1-3 times a week depending on player interest. While I'm not making the kind of money I was making selling safaris, I don't even want to know what we'd have been doing this year if I hadn't found a way to make money doing this. While we had savings, we definitely didn't have enough to keep us afloat for the better part of a year, and we managed to get stranded in Tbilisi when COVID hit, with flights back to Oz being $15,000 or so per person. While I'm not going to lie - running ten paid games (and one free) at once is a mountain of work, my stress levels since not having to do the safari thing have definitely gone down. I've made some great friends, grown a rad little Discord community with some players participating in multiple campaigns, launched a blog about D&D, and - most importantly - been able to keep food on the table and a roof over our heads in a year where we could have been in deep shit.
  18. I am hyped. Cool new features, interesting villain(s), amazing looking new zones, fun new features, artifacts require you to actually revisit parts of the world other than the new zones, Demon Hunters look sick, and ALL OF THE NOSTALGIA!
  19. Probably not all the way to 80 with unique content, but I'd say it's still quicker to dungeon run over and over again than it is to quest your way through. I remember leveling guys that way pre Cata. As for the expansion, we'll see where it's headed. I'll probably pre-order because I'm an impatient asshole. Spent the firs 6-7 hours of WoD unable to even log in
  20. New expansion being announced on August 6th at Gamecon in Germany. Just when I think I'm out...
  21. Yeah, I've really enjoyed it feeling like a challenge again. Sure, it takes time to grind out an area and you have to run around a lot looking for mobs or chasing up ridiculous quests, but it means you're actually in the world. I resisted the urge to just LFG dungeon my way all the way to 80. It's tempting, but I want to re-explore a world I haven't seen since pre-Cata.
  22. If you knew you were cancelling it, why did you respond to my PM a couple hours ago telling me I should go ahead and submit something?
  23. That'll be me. Didn't get to play long tonight as there was another of Arusha's twice daily unscheduled blackouts.
  24. Know what you mean about levelling. Had to stop myself rolling Priest as I played Priest & Rogue all the way through Lich King. Always wanted a Hunter and Warlock, but the thought of any kind of pet management irritates me! Frost Mage water elemental is bad enough! Character's name is Dincht. I'm dreading the Murloc quests in Elwynn Forest. I remember how annoying those were and I literally have Frostbolt, Fireball and Fire Blast right now. Pulling more than one mob is death.
  25. What's your toon's name? I'll keep my eye out for you. Might roll an alliance hunter today. Warlock is fun, but I'm a little ADD when it comes to leveling toons. Hunters have always been my favourite, and my first 100 was an Undead Night Elf Hunter. I've only died one on my 'lock so far, got caught up in Fenris Keep and my stupid Voidwalker got caught on some furniture. That place is a fucking death trap. Over in The Barrens now, as there are no 18-21 quests in Silverpines to occupy me
