  1. In this case there will be a boost to attendance because they know what awaits the winner after the replay but I do understand what you mean if they drew a similar team in the next round. Lineker suggested what they do in the FA Trophy where teams decide whether they want to go to a replay or extra time/penalties before the game and I agree with that and built on it. I think originally a game like Newport vs Eastleigh, both teams may unanimously decide beforehand to scrap a potential replay and go straight to extra time and penalties if needed, however, say Eastleigh win and they have a chance of getting a replay at Old Trafford, there's no doubt they'd choose the replay option.
  2. I know. I meant that there's still a pretty big positive if a lower league club draws another lower league club.
  3. I disagree with this part because once you reach the 3rd round onwards, the prize money starts going up sharply in terms of what it means for lower league sides, so if a lower league side draws another lower league side then both teams feel they've got a very good chance of progressing and earning even more prize money. Then the odds of drawing a bigger club goes down as you go through the rounds. For context, Maidstone started in the 2nd qualifying round, they got £3,375 for winning that game. For beating Stevenage, they received £105,000 in prize money. My club is desperate for a new clubhouse, even though we're a lot further down the pyramid than Maidstone, it makes me fully understand what a good cup run can do for a club.
  4. To be fair to Pascal Chimbonda, even though Skem are still bottom of the league, their deficit has been reduced by quite a lot. I think they were on 5 points when he took over (literally days after we played them) and now are on 20, 3 points behind 2nd bottom.
  5. Yes, I believe so. I think that would work in the FA Cup where by default there would be a replay but the clubs can unanimously decide to just to extra time and penalties beforehand. This way, the lower league clubs still get the chance of a replay.
  6. In the FA Cup, we beat Penistone Church 2-0 (who happen to be the club where John Stones started which they really do push!) and play Workington of the Northern Premier League this Saturday at Workington in the 1st qualifying round. In the league, a goalless draw at Charnock Richard, a 2-2 draw at Squires Gate (interesting about their ground is that it basically shares a wall with Blackpool Wren Rovers ground which surely, apart from ground sharers, makes the two grounds the closest proximity to anyone else), a 5-2 home defeat against Wythenshawe FC and a 4-2 win away to Cheadle Town puts us mid table with one more game to go in August (tonight at AFC Liverpool). We also progressed to the 2nd qualifying round of the FA Vase with a comfortable 4-1 win against Beverley Town of the NE Counties 1st Division (for the first time, I did the Facebook live match updates for that one).
  7. There's no FA Cup thread yet so I'll put it here. Prestwich Heys got through to the Preliminary round of the FA Cup after upsetting Bootle 3-1 (who are a step higher than us). No fluke result as we played them off the park for most of the game. It'll be Penistone Church or City of Liverpool in the next round who drew 2-2 after Liverpool equalised in the 99th minute. In the league so far, we've played 2, won 1, lost 1. A poor opening day performance as we lost 3-1 to Burscough who were only saved from relegation last season by the reorganisation of the leagues at step 5. That was followed by a 3-0 win against NW Counties 1st Division North champions Pilkington on Tuesday in a top performance where 6 changes were made.
  8. That's proper non-league! It's a tough one. There are a few at Prestwich who were Bury FC fans and for their personal reasons couldn't support Bury AFC so came to Heys. Now they're fully with us but are now conflicted now Bury FC are back (and more so as they're in our league!)
  9. A few years ago, I was playing Football Manager managing a team in the North West Counties League called Prestwich Heys (using a modded database). After that save, I kept saying to myself I should go and see them play in real life, just one time. I kept putting it off, then COVID happened so it just never did. Anyway, at the beginning of last season, I finally went to a game. It was an FA cup extra preliminary round match. My itch was satisfied, that'll be it! On the drive home I was thinking about the couple of hours I spent there and thought "you know what? I want to go again". Long story short, since then, I've only missed one home game, towards the end of the season I started to go to some away games, become a volunteer at the club, bought the replica shirt and other merch and met some people I now call friends. The reason I'm posting this really just an encouragement to go and see your local team. It's a completely different feel to watching Premier League and EFL games. There's a real community feel, I've stood and chatted with opposition fans, it's a fraction of the cost and you know the club really appreciates your support. EDIT: The reason I'm posting this now is because the new league season starts tomorrow and I'm super hyped!
  10. This has to be right up there with any signing annoucement ever!
  11. Probably more for the non-league thread but since we're talking it here; John Cena is now following the North West Counties Football League on Twitter (which my team are in the Premier League of)
  12. Honestly, my advice is to go and watch your local non-league team. I started going at the start of this season. Originally I intended just to go for the one game but since then I've missed only one home game, I love it!
  13. There are different ways though that clubs get their funding. For example, the non-league team I go to watch every week are in the same league as Bury AFC (everyone knows their story) who get 4 figure crowds and West Didsbury and Chorlton who get double, and for most clubs in the league, treble the gate therefore have a much higher income than the rest yet nobody takes issues with them.
  14. Does anyone know the German for schadenfreude?
  15. This hit me pretty hard even though I don't personally know Jason David Frank. Tommy was my hero when I was a kid. In primary school, we played Power Rangers and I was always the green ranger, I used to tie my school jumper over my shoulders and around my neck to fashion the Dragon Shield. For anyone who's ever seen Zyuranger, when Burai dies, Dragon Caeser goes into a depression and in my head I imagine the Dragonzord doing the same. Obviously it's not real, but that still breaks my heart.
  16. It looks like the British soaps are getting in on their own "forbidden door" stuff. It's to raise climate change awareness so hopefully something good can come from it. https://lm.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.mirror.co.uk%2Ftv%2Ftv-news%2Fbreaking-corrie-emmerdale-eastenders-air-25194149%3Futm_source%3Dfacebook.com%26utm_medium%3Dsocial%26utm_campaign%3Dmirror_main&h=AT1X0CO-CtqTx_TIC5b6fy5MMZh5LhzjWvML-Jy-HYY-6ioIj8nnRbeihSwcbghfTKW04v72kTchzEebz7bDCiMB2dB2CKpCeo7_yA8ircHSlPHokNyL_4sO03w8ahWeVA
  17. I would, but I don't know the German for schadenfreude
  18. Actually only a few weeks ago, the Super League Grand Final between bitter rivals Wigan and St Helens. It's 4-4 with literally one minute left and Wigan have a penalty to go 6-4 up and this happens....
  19. Oh Ed, we never deserved you to be PM.
  20. The move to Lesser Hampden is coded in the game as Queens Park are moving there in January 2021 in real life. They currently have an agreement with the SFA to sell Hampden to them. I'm not sure if the sale has been completed though.
  21. As long as it doesn't get nasty. After all, we're all Metz.
  22. I never knew this Twitter account existed, so thank you for that!
  23. 100% conversion rate on penalties since the update 👍 So have the opposition 👎
