  1. --- Shock horror - it's already starting to be utterly riddled by Covid cases. But let's see how this ultimately goes. Hopefully they can reach the end of the Games relatively incidence-free. Go Team GB!!
  2. This year's games run from Friday until February 25th. They will feature 102 events in 15 sports, making it the first Winter Olympics to surpass 100 medal events. Four new disciplines in existing sports were introduced to the Winter Olympic programme in Pyeongchang, including big air snowboarding, mixed doubles curling, mass start speed skating, and mixed team alpine skiing. Sports Alpine skiing Biathlon Bobsleigh Cross-country skiing Curling Figure skating Freestyle skiing Ice hockey Luge Nordic combined Short track speed
  3. Apologies if there's a thread, didn't see one on the first page. Seeing as the games start next week (August 4), let's have a thread. First, let's learn about living conditions at the athletes' village! ... oh, they aren't good. Rollicking good start so far!
  4. The Winter Olympics are less than a month away. Who is looking forward to something other than the hockey? Here's the chance to be part of something historic. And this was my reaction. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJbmB9k2Y88
  5. I was just gonna post this in the football thread but I guess we're gonna need an Olympics thread eventually with it being less than a year away. Anyways...

    2010 Winter Olympics

A bit of ski jumping today, but the Olympics get underway tonight with the opening ceremonies (7 PM EST on CTV, 7:30 on NBC). I expect this thread to be little more than a transplanted version of the Hockey thread, but maybe somebody will pop in once in a while to marvel at the skicross or something. Anyone have any ideas who the last torchbearer will be tonight? Speculation has everybody from Gretzky to Betty Fox to David Suzuki to Rick Hansen, but I'm getting the sense it might be somebody out of left field (unfortunately, since those are probably the four best names for the job).

    Beijing Olympics 2008

Opening ceremonies get underway in about 60 hours, and there's still no EWB Olympic thread? For shame, Hamster/IAceI/whoever did this last time. I guess these Olympics are kinda bad for the Brits, since everything happens while you're asleep, but I'm psyched to be getting mostly-live television coverage from whenever I wake up until noon, and then from 6 PM until whenever I go to bed. Plus I get to hear the sexy voice of Steve Armitage for swimming events. I'm not under any delusions that Canada will do well, though. Sports Illustrated has us getting 15 medals, the Associated Press s
  8. 2k6 faces to watch Hockey, the only real reason to watch the winter olympics And, since it's all I seem to be hearing about lately... So yeah. The Olympics suck, but at least the US should do okay at hockey.

    2012 Olympics

OK, Paris is the favorite, Moscow is the long shot, but my pick is London, I just think it's a beautiful city to have it and will have the best economy for all the guests.

    2004 Olympics

Just curious if any of you have been following or at least from time to time picking up on the concerns with the Greece Olympics this summer? Does anyway think they will be ready? Or are you like me and pretty much expect this to be a big cluster f#ck?? I'm just referring to the event sites not being ready, and traffic problems preventing athletes from getting to events. Of course the security of Greece and the reason is a issue. Just curious what some of you thought or are expecting to see this summer? Or do you simply dont care?
