Bill Withers is dead

I guess this is a pretty big deal. I only really know the hits but he had some very good songs. I'm sure everyone will know at least two or three of them. Lovely Day was his biggest hit in the UK. It's probably the one I like best too, along with Just the Two of Us.

I was listening to his Live at Carnegie Hall album 5 hours before he died so please bow before the strange power I wield.

Still though, it's an absolutely brilliant live performance. Tight band, great vocal performance and he has a unique connection with the audience that you have to hear to understand. He really did feel like a laidback Church minister talking to his friends as he played. Everyone that left the Carnegie Hall this night must have felt like Bill Withers was their close personal friend.

I was having a conversation about him the other day with my best friend - Lean On Me is a song where you can hear the emotion coming through the words/singing - like PLEASE swallow your pride...it just gets me every time.  I really think it's in that class of songs like Yesterday and Let It Be.

Lovely Day and Ain't No Sunshine are simple themes expressed so well.
