A running back is one thing but I will believe a receiver winning it again when I see it. I always hear the idiotic argument of “Well what about the guy throwing him the ball?!” As if a great receiver has never made an average quarterback look incredible.

University of Utah freshman running back Ty Jordan, who had a breakout year, was killed this morning in an accidental shooting.

Alabama should have a salary cap or some such thing. Or every school but them should be allowed to pay players. They are too good all the time

Mac Jones is going to be a first round pick for no good reason other than DeVonta Smith is a singular talent who will make his QB look much better than they are.

And if this game doesn’t help clinch Smith as the Heisman then it’s possible no receiver will ever win it again.

The scholarship caps are supposed to level the playing field a bit but it doesn't work. Some of it is schools finding ways around things by sorta manipulating transfer. Some of it is how national recruiting is now. Some of it is good luck (how many superstar Bama players get hurt? Tua is more or less it). 

Where in the past Bear Bryant had to have a bit of good fortune in having top-tier talent in the southeast, Saban can recruit across all 50 states and Canada with ease. He can have his assistants spread out through different regions and build relationships with top schools there. It's a spider web of scouting networks. But I don't know a way to really get around that without reducing the allowable number of coaches and employees a program can have. The problem with that being is it will have a knock-on effect of restricting access to assistant coaching opportunities for young, aspiring coaches.

You are right though, if the players were getting paid and there were a salary cap it would stop the transfer portal manipulation where schools load up on guys and then after a year see some of them transfer out because they see the writing on the wall. Alabama would have to be more cautious in who it brought on as recruits.

Well, at least Notre Dame played in a conference and played a full schedule this year.  Certainly deserved to be in the playoff more than Ohio State.  Unfortunately they just aren’t ever going to be on Alabama’s level as long as Saban is around.

Yeah any other school besides ND would have gotten shellacked by 20 more points. This game's still a blowout but it's less of one compared to what A&M would put up for example.

Yeah, it’s like LSU. The only other team capable of “slowing” them down would be Clemson. And even that is unlikely.

I mean, they were average at best before Saban got there. It's entirely possible they will be again when he retires.

Ohio State are certainly playing like a team who deserve to be here. Justin Fields is having a great game, but that BIG hit he just took might slow him down. He's hurting big time right now

Ohio State absolutely deserves to be there talent-wise.

They don't, however, deserve to be there after playing only half the games of the other three teams. That's booty.
