The Marlins already lost their starting catcher Jorge Alfaro to a positive test right before the season...and now starting outfielder Harold Ramirez, starting DH Garrett Cooper, and today's starting pitcher Jose Urena have all tested positive.

Reds' DH Matt Davidson tested positive and now today Mike Moustakas and Nick Senzel, while not testing positive as of yet, have been shut down due to reporting not feeling well.

This season may not even make it a week.

According to Justin Verlander, he's not done for the year.

Shohei Ohtani’s first game in the mound in 700 days:  30 pitches, 3 hits, 3 walks, 4 runs, no outs recorded.

The old infinity ERA.

Rick “5.55 ERA” Porcello gets bombed in his first outing as a Met.  And he’s their #3 starter now after Syndergaard and Stroman went down to injury.  Because rather than go after a good pitcher that would’ve cost money the Mets went after reclamation projects in Porcello and Wacha.

Pleeeeeease buy the team, Steve Cohen.

Sounds like the Marlins have delayed their travel arrangements over fear of coronavirus outbreak within the team. When they do leave, they'll be leaving behind the players who tested positive, as they are being quarantined in Philadelphia.

Relax. Now that he's with the Mets, he won't have a 5.52 ERA again.

It'll be more like 7.59, maybe 7.60.

I don't even know how GMs are gonna begin to properly assess ballplayers this offseason.  Plenty of guys have put together solid campaigns despite having a cold month.  There's gonna be All Stars from last year who finish up like .220 with a couple of home runs because they got cold at the wrong time and don't have the benefit of 2/3rds of the season to put up the numbers they're used to putting up.

From an evaluation standpoint, does this whole season get written off as a mulligan for everybody?

Not necessarily. Scouting for baseball goes a lot deeper than just statistics, especially such a ridiculous small sample size. GMs aren’t just going to go absolutely gaga for some random journeyman who may pop off 8 or 9 homeruns, just like they won’t write off a guy with the potential to be a damn good ball player who may end up only hitting .210.

That's what I mean though.  Stats this year feel like they'll be virtually useless in terms of making any sort of meaningful evaluation.  I'm a lot more inclined to just write this year's performance off because the circumstances were so messed up for everybody involved.  Advanced scouts are going to earn their money more than ever this year because they're gonna need to do a deep dive on a lot of film as the numbers just aren't going to tell the whole story.

I wish fans had better perspective of that.  Alonso and McNeil were 2 for 21 this first series, and if they slump for like a week I can already imagine bozos calling into WFAN asking if Pete was a one year wonder.
