Last time it happened was Jeff Samardzija being traded from the Cubs to the A's in 2014.

In normal circumstances his spot on the NL roster would be replaced, he could go to the game and be introduced and he'd watch the game from the AL dugout but he wouldn't play.

That said now that it's fully an exhibition game again and there isn't homefield at stake, who knows.  Maybe they let him play if the AL has a bench player back out.  May as well throw the normal rules out the window and have fun with it.  As it is they're probably going to bend the rules for Ohtani to let him start the game on the mound and then revert to the DH.

Mets are trying to start their game at 10 PM or so.  That’s gotta be the latest first pitch time I can remember for a game being played on the east coast.

It’s a product of two things.  1) Mets have already played a ridiculous amount of doubleheaders in the last month, 2) deGrom is pitching today and would next pitch Sunday, not playing today means you’ve just lost a deGrom start

-edit-

aaaand they officially called it after another storm opened up.  Another friggin doubleheader tomorrow

Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa have both announced their intention to skip the All Star Game, citing a desire to heal up for the second half and spend time with family.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with not wanting to face the music to the AL locker room in their first All Star Game after the cheating scandal broke.

Yet another Mets rainout.  Doubleheader #10 of the season on Saturday.  And there's a non-zero chance the Elsa storms are still lingering tomorrow which could cancel Friday's game and force a second straight doubleheader on Sunday.  And they have three more doubleheaders in the second half.  At minimum, 14 doubleheaders this year which means they've lost enough innings for over six full games.

Really hope Cohen just spends the $300 million on a retractable roof.  It'd probably look pretty garish but it's worth it to never deal with this nonsense again.  Being able to hold concerts and stuff year-round helps add value to the stadium anyway.

Yeah they're definitely going to be in sell-off mode after the All-Star Break. They'll probably be the top team selling too with what they have to give away. Better now than next year when the bottom will presumably truly fall out. Just a team in need of a rebuild that doesn't have a lot in the farm system to restock the big league club with.

Can't really blame the Cubs for going into selling mode given they're 8 games out of the division and wild card, but it would understandably be an emotional time for the fanbase to lose the core of the team that finally brought a title.

Right now the NL already looks like the East and Central are in division-or-bust territory with the West taking both Wild Cards.  I don't see any way the Dodgers or Padres are not making it.  I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop on the Giants but this late in the game it seems they're legit.  AL has plenty of teams within striking distance that could be buyers.

So in theory it should be a sellers market for the Cubs, but I still don't know what a guy like Bryant fetches as a return given teams' reluctance to trade top prospects for rentals anymore.  Cubs scouts were supposedly at a Mets' A game checking in on one of their top pitching prospects JT Ginn.  Would hate to lose him given how thin the pitching depth is in the organization, .but the draft is on Sunday so who knows.  I don't normally put much stock in positions in the draft but college players should theoretically rise to the bigs quicker and so if they take a college arm or bat it could be a signal on who they view as being more expendable in the system.

Sources said police removed 16 long guns, body armor and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition from the room which featured a balcony overlooking the downtown area. The sources said they feared the number of weapons, ammo, vantage point and large crowds could have resulted in a "Las Vegas style shooting."
