I understand some apprehension giving a player a new contract that'll run until he's 36 or so but between modern sports science as well as how focused a lot of athletes are to taking care of themselves there's no reason he can't continue to contribute at a high level into his late 30s. Just seems like they want to be cheap and are looking for an excuse as to "why they had no choice".

Especially when Liverpool are visibly worse without Henderson. He does all the small things better than just about any midfielder in the league. He also organizes the squad better than anyone, including VVD, and is just a natural leader. Losing him + Gini in the same season would be absolute madness.

So like... don't. He still has 2 years to run. They "don't want a repeat of the Wijnaldum situation," but it's not even comparable. He'll be 33, what resale value are they protecting, exactly?

Which is a shame. Seems like good business, we can access if he's potentially good enough to succeed Lloris without putting all that pressure on him. Glad it's option instead of obligation.

Ali Gold was saying this week and next week could be busy for Spurs. We were being heavily linked to Cristian Romero last night, as well as continued links to Takehiro Tomiyasu. Would love to start seeing some outgoings as the squad needs refreshing.

It’s quite interesting that when the Villa fell off a fucking cliff, loads of the players that we brought in have gone on to be successful elsewhere.

Gollini, Idrissa Gana, Jordan Veretout, Jordan Amavi, Adama Traore. Even Jordan Ayew.

Goes to show that there were much bigger problems behind the scenes than the quality of players on the pitch. Problem number one, of course - Tim fucking useless Sherwood.

It's night and day the way Villa is being run from an outsider's perspective. From the club that looked a mess in the season they got relegated to the team now who are improving each season and have a good core group of players. It's a good time to be a Villa fan. It is horrible when you see things going wrong on the pitch and behind the scenes, the end of Hicks/Gillett at Liverpool was so depressing to watch unfold on and off the pitch
