Drummer of The Rolling Stones, Charlie Watts passed away earlier today at a London hospital. They all seemed like they'd live forever but we know that's not something any of us get to do. Watts was the rock of that band for 58 years and without him serving as the backbone Mick and Keith likely don't get to do the really great things we all remember them for.

What a run.

He was one of a pretty small number of performers that you could immediately recognise by the way they played their instrument. You know, that swinging, skipping rhythm. And yeah, Mick n Keith came up with some cracking songs and riffs but Charlie definitely played a massive part in giving them that unique feel that set them apart from their contemporaries. Plus Charlie Watts was less concerned than Mick and Keith about creating his own legend and more into just playing the drums, and he seemed equally happy doing that in a stadium with the stones or in a club with his little jazz group. And that makes him the coolest member of the Rolling Stones.
