Plymouth making hard work of it against Rochdale, currently 1-1 with just over 15 left. Rochdale's goal was a beauty though.

Edit/merged post: And Luke Jephcott comes on and immediately scores his first goal for six weeks. 2-1 Argyle,a word Sam Matterface on commentary refuses to say for some reason.

Chesterfield, one of four non-league clubs left in the FA Cup, have been handed a lucrative third-round tie at the European champions, Chelsea.

The National League leaders will travel to Stamford Bridge to tackle last season’s Cup runners-up in one of the draw’s most eye-catching ties.

Their fellow non-leaguers Kidderminster Harriers will welcome the Championship side Reading to Aggborough. Harriers, who are fifth in the National League North, reached the fifth round in 1994 where they went down 1-0 against West Ham.

Yeovil, of the National League, will host Bournemouth, who are flying high in the Championship, while Boreham Wood – who beat St Albans on Monday night – will play the League One side Wimbledon.

Leicester City are to face another emotional visit from their title-winning manager, Claudio Ranieri, as Watford were drawn to visit the Cup holders, while the former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will fancy a return to Old Trafford as he takes Aston Villa to face Manchester United.

League Two’s Swindon Town, who have not reached the third round since 2012, were handed a glamour home tie against the Premier League leaders, Manchester City, as the second-placed side – Liverpool – will get reacquainted with Shrewsbury Town. Jürgen Klopp’s side edged out the League One team 1-0 at Anfield in a 2020 fourth-round replay, fielding their youngest-ever starting lineup and may well be keen to rest players once again for this Cup clash.

In an all-Premier League encounter Leeds United will travel to West Ham while Millwall will face their London rivals Crystal Palace at The Den. League One Morecambe will visit Tottenham and Arsenal have been handed a tricky tie at Nottingham Forest.

Harrogate, who reached the third round for the first time after winning 2-1 at Portsmouth on Saturday, will take on Luton at Kenilworth Road.

The ties will be played on 7-10 January.

You remember that episode of the X-men animated series where it turned out that after a load of wibbly time travel they needed Wolverines healing factor to wipe out the techno virus? That, but Sean Dyche and Covid. We'll all be back to work in a fortnight.

Somewhere 30 minutes over there *points north-easternly* from me, Man City are playing Swindon and unsurprisingly dominating. They also appear to be wearing their training kit, which is a bit harsh.

Pumas third kit for a lot of teams is absolutely awful. They look like something a grandparent would buy you from their holiday in Spain or Turkey as a souvenir

If I'm not posting here in a couple hours time about being disappointed about crashing out of the cups at the first opportunity, I will be shocked. Conceding in the first minute against a bottom-half Championship team.

Think they miss Callum Wilson.

We have absolutely zero cutting edge without him. Saint-Maximin has some of the worst decision making I've ever seen and Almiron as an attacking sub couldn't hit a barn door. I know Newcastle fans always ask for a striker in transfer windows but we are absolutely desperate this time out.
