Spoiler

Gather round children, and let me tell you a story.  The year was 2006, and the EWBFF was still in its infancy, and had not yet established itself as the institution it has since become.  In fact, back then it wasn't even certain we would find enough players to sustain the league each season, let alone have enough to craft a whole second league.  Oh but there were attempts at second leagues, but these hoped to usurp us, and in 2006 one was even so bold to declare itself "The REAL EWB Fantasy Football League."  That league, much like all the other pretenders, wouldn't even reach the point of a draft.  Most of this history is now lost to time, though the Internet Wayback Machine does allow us to look at the list of threads from that era, where we can all see damshow has the last post in that usurper league's thread.  AN ENEMY EVEN THEN!

...but I digress.  Back then, there was no talks of keepers or dynasties or any such thing.  There was only the hope that the league might get enough interest and survive.  Oh, and there was of course, the draft.  And what a draft it was.   Immediately, the 2006 EWBFF Draft delivered to us a moment that has yet to be topped, even 16 years later.  With the first overall pick, Dirty Deeds Done With Sheep (Or Vendetta as he would come to be known) declared loudly and proudly his selection would be none other than  REGGIE "619" BUSH!!  And with that, the worst draft pick in EWBFF history was made.  If you were not there, you might initially think to yourself "Well sure, with the benefit of hindsight its easy to see that was a bad pick."  Oh my dear friend, no hindsight was needed and the pick was met with immediate shock, and ridicule.  2006 was Reggie Bush's rookie season with the Saints, and while he might have had an electrifying college career, that was no guarantee for future NFL success.  Even the most optimistic projections for Bush's first NFL seasons would have him ranked far behind the other top tier running backs of 2006, a list that now a who's who of legendary fantasy studs.  LaDanian Tomlinson, Larry Johnson, Steven Jackson.  Vendetta passed on all of them in favor of the master of the 619, Reggie Bush.   Vendetta unsurprisingly finished in last place that year.  Who won the league that year?  Reflecto (that's weird), and in a cruelly ironic twist, on his team was the man that would be the actual star of the Saints running game that year, Deuce McAllister.  If you're a member of the A League, you can look back and see the rosters and teams of 2006, and other years.  If you think 2 Starting QBs were bad this year, we were doing it back then too and ohhhh boy are there some rough QBs we had to start.

Anyways, the point of all this is that even though EWBFF has been a full redraft every year, its still managed to have some rich history.  I couldn't think of a better way to honor that history than with the longest running joke in league history. (Second place is Srar's Patriots-esque Dynasty, which is in fact, no laughing matter)  Today, our history will get a lot richer, as we launch this Keeper League.  Now we all get to run the risk of looking silly for holding on to players over and over again!  Oh the names we'll come to curse as they hurt our teams repeatedly.  If you regret some of the trades you've made in previous EWBFF leagues, just wait until you get to start trading draft picks too!  We should have started this years ago, but there's no time like the present!  It took 18 seasons, but I finally believe enough of you will stick around every season to make this successful.  Thank you for your commitment, and please...

ROSTER SIZES AND SCORING (READ IT)

Spoiler

Scoring is Yahoo standard. That means QBs are nerfed compared to our other leagues, so keep that in mind.  Luckily, you only have to start one.  .5 points per reception, fractional point scoring.

9 Bench Spots

Yes you heard me right, 9 bench spots!  It's a keeper league afterall, you'll want the extra spots to stash players, or use those slots as draft capital in future drafts

I've decided against doing a rookie draft this season.  Rookies you draft will hold their value for the next 3 seasons.  Draft one in the 7th round this year, even if they blow up and become the best player in fantasy and the sure bet to be #1 overall next season, it will still only cost you that 7th rounder to keep them next year, and the two years following.  In May, we'll do 2-3 round rookie only draft, participation costs draft picks, but is not required.  I'll go into greater detail about that either in the PM thread or after we knock out this draft.

For now, lets begin the only randomly ordered draft we will ever have.  Every draft after this one will be based on reverse order of final standings the year before.  I hope we'll move quickly through this, but odds are it will bleed over into the first week or two of the season, so it might be a bit of a late start this season.   Please, please, please PM me a pick if its getting close to your time and you think you won't be around.  Expect us to jump to a 12 hour deadline after round 10 or so.
