Music and Video Games

Final Fantasy VII and VIII have beautiful music, but I do think some of that is massive nostalgia for me as those were the first two FF games I played and probably my two all time favorites.

Also... Metal Gear has had some great music in the past. And I think Uncharted definitely deserves a shout out, I can't think of a modern game with better music that just suits the game so well. I remember reading that the composer of the Uncharted music is actually a film composer and Uncharted was his first game. I don't know how true that is, but it definitely does feel more like something out of Indiana Jones than you'd get in a game.

Also, the Super Star Wars games on the SNES had awesome music.

Also disappointingly couldn't find the intro to the Amiga John Madden game, which had amazing music. Hut hut hut hut!

Regards Gran Turismo, I'd had that game years before I had the intro on up to the vocals, was well confused as I had no idea it was an Everything Must Go remix. GT and Wipeout were amazing examples of early licensed soundtracks in the cd console age.

Apparently you can't put three links in a row, but this one as well considering how much i liked both Persona 3/4 and the third's final boss battle taking close to an hour (every time) to beat and after many game overs this became somewhat familiar.

Yeah! From what I remember I really liked Mass Effect 2's music.

Uncharted has incredible sound and music.

Super Mario Bros. in the underground levels (I find myself humming/singing it all the fucking time, it's embarrassing when people ask if you are humming a song from ages ago).

LoZ games. Windwaker perhaps had the best music but the main LoZ theme is epic and my favourite video game theme.

The DKC games as mentioned were incredible.

Katamari always had great quirky music.

Little King's Story as well (that whole fucking game needs some serious love. I keep forgetting about it when comparing games, perhaps my favourite game not just of this gen but of all time!)

If we're talking Donkey Kong Country games, then I could be here a while.

It slips into super fun mode at the 15-second mark. Easily my favorite song of the series.

Mario 64 deserves some love for it's music as well. The ending credits, specifically.

Also one of the pieces of music that's most instantly recognizable for me from one of my favorite Sega Genesis games of all time.

Also still sometimes find myself humming the tunes from Mario 3. Especially the first world themes. It gets me some weird looks...
