Officials last night were forced to remove Mean Jean Cattley from Promoter Christopher Bell’s office last night following his time limit draw with the Insane Heat in a Best of 3 Falls match. Cattley was incensed that they had not been given overtime, but sources who witnessed the melee cannot understand what Cattley’s beef was about as he was going nowhere and more than likely would of submitted had the time not ran out. Cattley’s pride however seems to be disregarding that little fact and he has demanded that Bell make things right at the next show or he would not fulfil his 3 show contract. The full booking team have been in discussions ever since.

The planned No Count Out’s Tag Team Grudge Match that was advertised for 24/4 has been cancelled following the actions of Tom E. Hawk in assisting Deano Machino against Flying Jimmy Foxx. Instead the grudge match will take place on a later date, to be announced at the 24/4 show. It has been replaced on this third show in the Megaplex by two singles matches between Tom E. Hawk and the man who he turned inside out with a frightening clothesline last month, Air Attack Weasel. The second match will see a rematch of Deano Machino and Flying Jimmy Foxx. Can Foxx upset Deano and get revenge for his beating last month?

The Guru has predicted that Mr Wrestling Brent Hill will go the rest of the year undefeated. Brent currently has two victories to his name over Jorge Wilkes and Hell Monkey who has just signed to compete at Combat Zone Coastal Wrestling in California. He will continue with his commitments to TSW as well.

Veteran Announcer and Manager, Shane Sneer, best known for heading his “Sneer Corporation” in both the Supreme Wrestling Federation and Dangerous and Violence Extreme has just opened Unbeatable Wrestling Xtreme in Western Australia. He has signed a deal with TSWrestling.com for DVD’s of the new promotion down-unders shows to be released in America. Already announced for his new promotion which intends to bring the best of global wrestling to Australasia are the English duo of Howard Martinez and Ernest Flores, Japanese Women’s wrestler Mitsuko Takudome and fellow compatriot, the potential break out star of 2005, Nariaki Hitomi.

There are rumours doing the rounds that one way the bookers will appease Cattley and also make a good gesture to the rest of the roster is to hold a title tournament. Management are trying to decide if it should be a one night tournament, a Weekend Double Shot, or a progressive tournament over a series of shows. They decision seems to rest on the desire of Tri-State Management to make the tournament as prestigious as possible during this increasingly poor market for wrestling. If you thought the years HGC and SWF began competing head to head were the “boom” years of the Wrestling Business, then like the e-commerce bubble, its burst. Don’t be surprised if there are major shake ups in the industry during this year. TSW with the help of its core fanbase in New York City will weather these dark days for the industry and hopefully emerge as one of the premier promotions.

“The Technician” Marc Speed who secured an important victory over Tom E. Hawk last month has expressed a desire to management to wrestle one of TSW’s four previous main eventers – Brent Hill, Hell Monkey, Jean Cattley or the Insane Heat. As the only one of those four with a recent loss was Hell Monkey in tag team action last month, it has been decided that Speed will square off on 24/4 against “Wrestling’s best Kept Secret” Hell Monkey. This is an important match for both of them as Hell Monkey despite headlining the first ever Tri-State Wrestling Event at “A New Alternative” has failed to pick up any victories in the territory and may lose the opportunity to main event again if his form does not improve. A win for the Techinician would be a huge scalp for the Mississippi native and surely bring him higher profile matches and possibly put him in contention for a place in the rumoured Tri-State Title Tournament.

That famed Skin Care Specialist Dermot O’Logical has earned himself a call up to the #3 Promotion in the United States (#2 in Canada) DAVE… some how. Despite not having won a match this year so far the Irish American will be appearing on Danger Zone Wrestling each week at 11PM. You can also catch him on 24/4 at the Megaplex, NY when he faces former shoot fighter Willie York. York makes the transition from shooting to wrestling on the 24/4. You almost feel sorry for the obnoxious Dermot, almost.

In HUGE news, New York City Wrestling’s Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Wiley Steinway and Coyote Dynamite (Wiley Coyote) will be making their first apperence outside of their home base on 24/4 against Two Masked Superhero’s Silver Shark and American Elemental. The match will be non-title.

Tri-State Wrestling have decided that 24/4 will be a night of “New York’s Most Wanted” matches and will be headlined by a return bout between Mean Jean Cattley and The Insane Heat. However it will not be a singles match, both have been instructed to find a tag team partner. The Insane Heat’s choice has been the undefeated Brent Hill, who will partner with Cattley is unknown. He doesn’t have too many friends.

DVD Release Review

A decidedly better show put on from start to finish by the people at Tri-State Wrestling this month after the debacle of the Best of Three last month. They needed to improve with important questions hanging over the future base of the promotions shows. The DVD release sees a video hyping three of what have been dubbed ‘New Yorks Most Wanted Matches’, Deano Machino vs Flying Jimmy Foxx, Tom E Hawk vs Air Attack Weasal and the tag team main event with Cattley’s mystery partner. (24%) It then cut to footage taped earlier in the day and the surprise arrival of Big Smack Scott to the building drawing surprised looks and murmurings from the staff. His presence became clear when he knocked on the door of Cattleys locker room and was welcomed in by Mean Jean himself. Cattley has a partner for tonight’s main event. (33%)

Dermot O’Logical continued his disappointing form by being knocked unconscious by ex-shoot fighter Willie York on the floor outside the ring during his match despite claiming before hand that he had put the last two shows behind him and was focusing on his bread and butter career in wrestling as opposed to Skin Care.

The match of the night was Marc Speed and Hell Monkeys confrontation with the technician taking control early on showing his superior ring knowledge, however Hell Monkey was not about to risk losing his eligibility for main event wrestling by losing three shows on the bounce and over came Speed eventually, a collection of crossface blows dazing Speed before Monkey put him away with the Double Powerbomb and pinfall.

The first half of the singles matches between Reckless Abandon and the duo of Deano Machino and Tom E Hawk saw the win go in favour of Air Attack Weasal courtesy of the interference by Deano Machino leading to a DQ. Before Weasal’s partner Flying Jimmy Foxx could make the save though Deano had unleashed his new finisher – a Disc Exploder (Derailer) and Hawk had followed up with a trademark running powerslam to leave Weasal in considerable pain and having to be helped to the back by his tag team partner Foxx. Deano & Hawk didn’t want a confrontation with Foxx yet and bailed the moment he showed up.

Intermission time and The Guru was speaking for his client Mr Wrestling Brent Hill and The Insane Heat. He claimed that last months draw proved that Cattley could not beat Heat, and irrespective of who was teaming with him there was no possibility his team could lose. Pretty generic interview.

The tag team match between Wiley Coyote and Two Masked Superhero’s (Silver Shark & American Elemental) was meant to be a non-title match, however the NYCW Tag Champions Wiley Coyote asked the fans if they wanted a title fight. The crowd roared approval and they told the announcer to declare this a title fight because they were fighting champions. Wiley Coyote then drew the wrath of the fans by saying they had no intention of dropping the belts in front of “these kind” of people. Wiley Coyote retained the straps after the match had broken down into a brawl, the two highflyers giving it their best but the experienced double teaming of Wiley Coyote giving them the edge and leading to Coyote Dynamite putting American Elemental away with a Pumphandle Powerbomb after Wiley Steinway had knocked Silver Shark from a standing position on the top turnbuckle to the ringside floor, drawing the only ‘holy sh!t’ chant of the night. Wiley Coyote then snatched their belts back and left avoiding the outstretched hands of some fans.

Part 2 of the Reckless Abandon versus Deano Machino & Tom E Hawk saga tonight saw Deano pick up a commanding victory over Flying Jimmy Foxx. The match was riven by interference from Tom E Hawk whenever Foxx seemed to be picking up some momentum. Air Attack Weasel didn’t show to help his partner as we were told he had been sent for X-Rays on his back after the Disc Exploder and Running Powerslam he took earlier. Deano mocked Foxx by pinning him with one foot on his chest after finally ending it with another Disc Exploder.

We cut to a pre-recorded interview between Joan Evans and Mean Jean Cattley and he informed us that he had chosen Big Smack Scott to be his right hand man tonight because of his track record of ending the careers of wrestlers. He said that the Insane Heat and Brent Hill did not yet realise what they had signed up to and would soon be yet another notch on his “almost criminal record”.

The Main Event was the hottest match of the night with the crowd firmly behind the faces. Big Smack Scott and Mean Jean Cattley repeatedly tested the officials patience by stretching the five counts whenever double teaming or choking one of their opponents. The fans were on their feet every time that Cattley and the Insane heat were both the legal men but it would be Mr Wrestling who would decide this match – by missing a flying shoulder block off the top rope, aimed at Big Smack Scot. Standing up and clutching his shoulder painfully, Cattley pounced and applied a crossface submission getting the tap out victory and the bragging rights for the night. The Insane Heat eventually knocked Big Smack Scott from the ring but failed to get his hands on Cattley who despite having wanted a rematch with Heat ducked him at the end of this tag match to gloat from the aisle.

Just when the fans were getting out of their seats to leave we finally got the huge announcement that had been promised. TSW Promoter Christopher Bell took the ring and declared that he wanted Tri-State Wrestling to be known for competition not for petty scraps. In every conflict there are losers and winners and it was time to recognise the best of the winners. In two months time on 10/6, Tri-State Wrestling will return to New York City here at the Megaplex to crown a first time ever Tri-State Champion. But to get there the wrestlers of Tri-State Wrestling must prove themselves in New Jersey and Philidelphia next month on 15/5 and 22/5.

The Tri-State Title Tournament will be a sixteen man competition with qualifying matches for the Tri-State Finals (TSW’s return to New York on 10/6) taking place in New Jersey on 15/5 and in Philidelphia on 22/5. This will be the first time that Tri-State Wrestling has ventured outside of the Megaplex and will truly make it a wrestling company for fans throughout the tri-state region. The sixteen men confirmed for the tournament are;

Mr Wrestling Brent Hill

Mean Jean Cattley

Deano Machino

Hell Monkey

Black Eagle

Willie York

Big Smack Scott

The Insane Heat

Little Bill Lebowski

The Debuting Mexican star Leonardo Cortes

Los Fury

Steve Flash

Tom E. Hawk

Flying Jimmy Foxx

Jorge Wilkes

“Wildfire” Warren Technique

Match Brackets are as follows;

15/5 in New Jersey

Match A: Mr Wrestling Brent Hill vs Deano Machino

Match B: Hell Monkey vs Los Fury

Match C: Steve Flash vs Tom E. Hawk

22/5 in Philidelphia

Match A: Jorge Wilkes vs Warren Technique

Match B: Mean Jean Cattley vs Insane Heat

Match C: Leonardo Cortes vs Little Bill Lebowski

Match D: Willie York vs Big Smack Scott

You will have noted that the 22/5 show features the one versus one between Mean Jean Cattley and The Insane Heat. This match could be the most important of the tournament after bookmakers made Heat and Cattley joint favourites to become Champion. Outside bets are Hell Monkey and the last challenge to NYCW’s Empire Title held by Joey Minnesota… Steve Flash who debuts on 15/5 in TSW.

It has been trumpeted around the internet for a while now, and for once the internet is right. Japanese sensation Yoshimi Mushashibo has signed on to work the 15/5, 22/5 and 10/6 show back in New York. At this moment we can only confirm the matches for his first two dates. On 15/5 he will be welcomed to America by Dermot O’Logical and The Technician Marc Speed who he will face in a triple threat match. On 22/5 he will team with up and coming Japanese light heavyweight Kenko Shigeki, perhaps more known in the orient as Golden Scorpion. The duo who will go under the name of Team Dynasty 2005 will face Wiley Coyote in a must see match.

In addition to that huge tag team match on the 22/5, we will also see the much anticipated No Count Out’s Tag Team Grudge Match between Tom E. Hawk & Deano Machino against Reckless Abandon. Tensions are running high for this one.

Both of the shows this month will feature the progressing four on each show fighting in the main event in tag team action. This could throw up some very interesting combinations. Who will get the advantage?

Tri-State Wrestling Present

THE PROVING GROUNDS (Part 1)

From the Eisenhower Recreational Facility, New Jersey

DVD Commentary By: Joan Evans & Christopher Bell

May 15th 2005

Attendance: 1983

Rating: 38.8%

DVD Release Review

Tri-State Wrestling have certainly revved up the production values on its DVD releases, replacing the single graphic front menu which usually has the two headliners and the name of the event listed with a video menu instead of the ring going up and coming down in black and white grainy footage. The supposed intention is to give the Proving Ground shows a ‘timeless’, important feel.

The video package opens up with Maine’s very own Guru standing in front of a red velvet curtain backstage at the show with one ‘Mr Wrestling’ Brent Hill. The Guru delights in telling ‘his’ people about how Brent has never got the chances he should have had in his career to this date. But you can be assured, that with the Guru now advising Brent, he won’t let his fans down. The Guru warned Deano Machino, Brents first round opponent tonight, to be ready to bring his A-Game. (45%)

We cut to elsewhere in the building, in actual fact, the ticket office. Tri-State Promoter and TSW’s lead announcer Christopher Bell is standing by. He informs the viewers that even now, with the show moments away tickets are still being sold on the door and predicts that the New Jersey debut could come close to an attendance of 2000. He thanks the fans for supporting the product and then hypes tonights special three way, first fall finishes it match. He reminds fans that last month Marc Speed fought the match of his life against Hell Monkey and just came up short and will be looking to prove himself once again in that search for a coveted main event spot. Dermot O’Logical hasn’t had the best of times, though he did give Bell some great skin care advice the other week, and needs to start getting wins on the board if he wants to remain on the Tri-State Roster. However, the man of the night, the person everybody came to see.. former PGHW Global Tag Champion Yoshimi Mushashibo is indeed in the building tonight and will settle for nothing less than a victory on his first ever match in the United States. Bell really sells Yoshi as the ‘outstanding wrestling’ of his generation. Truly, the viewer is in for something special this evening! (44%)

The first match in the Tri-State Title Tournament kicks off the evening with Mr Wrestling Brent Hill being accompanied to the ring by the Guru. Deano Machino is already waiting on him in the ring. The match begins in a traditional collar and elbow tie up with Brents height (6’1’’ to 5’10’’) and weight (225lbs to 200lb) advantage allowing him to push Deano into the corner before sportingly giving a clean break. They go to lock up again but this time Deano rakes his eyes and shoves Brent face first into the turnbuckle working him over against the pads, halting his assault before the five count break each time. Deano was able to secure a nearfall following a T-Bone Suplex to Brent, but did not hook the leg and was jawing with the Guru when he should have been concentrating on pinning Brent. Brent had a false comeback when he blocked Deano’s powerbomb attempt and backtossed him to the mat only to have Deano hiptoss him and apply an armbar on the mat. Brent managed to stand up though with the Guru and the crowd cheering him on and in a very innovative moment, simply climbed through the ropes and jumped from the apron to the floor – the ropes clotheslining Deano in the throat as he was pulled with Brent, breaking the armbar. Mr Wrestling scored the victory moments later on his return to the ring when he hit the Fishermans Suplex for the three count. (Crowd: 21/Workrate: 62/Overal: 50)

A match that is sure to be a favourite amongst the tape traders followed next as Hell Monkey secured his place in the Semi-Finals of the Tri-State Title Tournament with an important victory over Mexican luchadore Los Fury. This, very colourful match between the two masked wrestlers saw an incredible moment when Los Fury leapt up onto Hell Monkeys shoulders, his legs wrapped round his head, twisted in mid air and delivered a flying head scissors over the top rope to the outside bringing the fans out of their seat. Fury’s caution to the wind would not be enough to win the match though it certainly won him the affection of the New Jersey fans as Hell Monkey caught Fury leaping off the top rope late in the match with a brutal powerbomb, keeping hold of him to pick him up and hit a second, spinning powerbomb for the victory. Hell Monkey incurred the fans disapproval by walking away from Los Fury after the match when he offered to shake the better mans hand (14/66/44)

Steve Flash made a rare trip out of New York City where he works for rival company New York City Wrestling to participate in the Tri-State Title Tournament and was cheered to victory over Tom E. Hawk courtesy of Reckless Abandon’s assistance distracting Hawk when he was about to deliver a lariat to Flash that could have turned the match on its head. Though they didn’t lay a finger on Hawk Their presence, and the fans reaction to them lost Hawk his concentration and subsequently the match when Flash delivered the Flash Bang (STO) for three, advancing to the Tri-State Finals in New York. (11/58/43)

The fourth and final Tri-State Title Qualifier took place hot off the heels of the Flash/Hawk match as one half of Reckless Abandon, Flying Jimmy Foxx had a fast paced encounter with Black Eagle who was boo’d as he jumpstarted the match with a running dropkick over the head of the referee who was checking Foxx’s boots. Eagle continued to work on Foxx, as he hit a standing shooting star press to Foxx for 2. Eagle then dragged Foxx so his head was dangling over the side of the apron and quickly scaled the top turnbuckle leaping off with a brutal looking double stomp to Foxx’s exposed head. Suprisingly Foxx was able to get a shoulder up during the pin attempt and clawed his way into control for the first time hitting running knees into Eagles chest as he was propped up agai9nst a turnbuckle before climbing up onto his shoulder and rolling forward into a pinning predicament. Eagle kicked out and rolled out of the ring for a breather. The referee was distracted trying to get him to come back to the ring when Tom E. Hawk returned the favour from earlier in the night, but this time physically injectoing himself into proceedings, powerslamming Foxx while the referee’s back was turned and quickly leaving the ring. Black Eagle returned to the ring and hit his Sky Twister Press finishing move from the top turnbuckle for the three count. Mr Bell on commentary informed us then that tonights Tri-State Title Semi-Final Preview will be Hell Monkey & Black Eagle teaming up to take on the other two advancing men Steve Flash and Brent Hill. (20/57/49)

Intermission time and we cut to the backstage once more to find two young wrestlers in the shape of Jacob Jett – who will forever be remembered as the first man in a Tri-State Ring at ‘A New Alternative – and a new man introduced as John Greed. Christopher Bell walked into the picture and trumpeted an ‘exciting tag match with four of the best young wrestlers in the business today’ coming after the intermission was over. He asked Jett and Greed their thoughts on their first ever tag match together. Jett did all the talking “Well Mister Bell, it goes like this. The two people you see before you are the future of this business and the future is now. We’re called The Mile High Club for a reason. We are going to travel the country competing for promotions on the East Coast, the West Coast and the central states. We will live our lives outside of the ring on an airoplane let me tell you that! Wildfire Warren technique… Little Bill Lebowski. We got no problem with you personally. Tonight our match, our debut as a tag team.. will be all about pride. We are not going to start off on the wrong foot Mister Bell!”. Bell thanked them for the interview and they walked off to get ready for their match. (45%)

Before Mr Bell could send it back to ringside Tom E. Hawk and Deano Machino came tramping into the cameras picture surrounding Bell with Deano shouting into the microphone about how Reckless Abandon had crossed the line tonight by preventing one of them advancing in the Tri-State Title Tournament. So next week they will take great pleasure of wrapping their hands around there scrawny little necks and choking the life out of them. No Count Outs? That suits Deano & Hawk. They are prepared to battle all over Philadelphia if the fancy takes them. (44%)

The second half of the show kicked off with the Mile High Club wrestling against “Wildfire” Warren Technique and Little Bill Lebowski. Lebowski isn’t exactly young, so Bells comment about the ‘four best young workers’ was made in error as Lebowski is 30. But whatever, it’s a minor thing. This was a fairly contested match with the fans basically split on who to support. The Mile High Club took the win as Jacob Jett once more beat “Wildfire” with a flying crossbody. The two teams embraced after the match and the losers sportingly held up their opponents arms in victory. (13/44/31)

At long last it came to the match of the night. The North American debut for PGHW Hall of Fame bound Yoshimi Mushashibo. The thirty something year old Japanese star of his countries tag divisions was given a thunderous reception from the fans. Few would have evr seen a match of Yoshi’s but the hype surrounding him and the smarks who collect the tapes in the crowd combined to give him a justly deserved welcome. For those who clapped politely not knowing who he was by the end of his triple threat match with “The Technician” Marc Speed and Dermot O’Logical they were left in no doubt that a big time player had graced the Tri-State ring. There was no other conceivable conclusion to the match than Mushashibo going over and he did it in style. Marc Speed was preparing for a german suplex on Dermot O’Logical, when Mushashibo grabbed him from behind delivering a three man German Suplex., sending Dermot tumbling out the otherside of the ring. Yoshimi then fluidly applied his both feared and revered Yoshi Lock getting an immeadiate tap out and a rapturous applause. (22/63/51)

Yoshimi continued to surprise the crowd and the international press which were covering his appearance in Tri-State Wrestling when he took the microphone. Yoshimi speaks very little, broken English. Taking a mic stunned everybody though its conceivable he had lines prepared for him before he went to the ring. Panting and out of breath he thanked the fans for giving him the honour of performing in front of them and said he would never forget the New Jersey crowd which got a cheap pop. (54%)

The Main Event was next and the four memn who qualified for the Tri-State Finals show back in New York were once again in the ring. Hell Monkey teaming with Black Eagle and Brent Hill pairing up with Steve Flash. Mr Bell said on commentary that Hell Monkey & Black Eagle have experience teaming together at the “Best of Three?” show so may have an edge over Brent and Steve Flash. Despite them all working their second match of the night, they pulled out the match of the night with a match more akin to the old school Texas Tornado Tag Matchs than anything resembling the traditional tag matches of old. There was perhaps three tags the entire match and most of the time all four of them were fighting, in and around the ring. The referee let it go though and eventually Mr Bell was proven right as Brent hit a flying shoulder block to Steve Flash by accident when Black Eagle dodged out of the way. Black Eagle then delivered a springboard dropkick to Brent knocking him backwards into a Powerbomb from Hell Monkey who got the 123 scotching The Guru’s claim a couple of weeks ago that nobody could defeat Brent with him in his corner. (22/67/57)

The four men didn’t stop fighting after the match. Picking up where they left off even as the winners were being announced over the house PA System. Flash and Black Eagle brawling through the ropes as Hell Monkey beat down on Mr Wrestling in the ring. Event staff had to be called in to separate the four who will face each other in a four way elimination at the Tri-State Finals for a place in the Title match. (25%)

Backstage, with the area stripped of staff who were separating the main event competitors in the ring, Deano Machino and Tom E. Hawk were found assaulting Reckless Abandon unopposed. Shouts rang out from down the corridor off camera signalling that they had been spotted fighting and they took off, both Deano and Hawk leaving the building through the fire exit the damage already done to their opponents in Philadelphia. (16%)

Tri-State Wrestlings resident lifestyle Guru.. the Guru... okay I admit, I lost my way there. Anyway, the Guru was on hand after Night 1 of the Proving Grounds to reflect on a show that saw his charge, Mr Wrestling Brent Hill lose for the second time since the Guru became his manager. The Guru was typically philosophical pointing out that Brent had already won one hard fought match earlier in the night over Deano Machino to book his place at the Tri-State Finals and in the long run thats more important that an exhibition tag match which he lost. He wasn't sure he had learned anything new from the tag match about his own clients weakness' or his opponents strengths but confided that this proves that no man is unbeatable regardless of the ammount of preparation. Tiredness leads to mistakes, but only through mistakes could you learn. He was confident that he and Brent had learned from the tag match and were looking forward to next month in New York where the first ever Tri-State Champion would be crowned.

Speaking to the japanese press that had followed him to the United States, after the show, Yoshimi Mushashibo was clearly pleased with his experience thus far. He told the assembled journalists that wrestling in the states was nothing like he had expected and some of his fellow country men wrongly underated the American wrestling scene. He points to his opponent Marc Speed as a perfect example of a man who is disgracefully underated by his peers and the fans. A very sound man worthy of the name "The Technician". Yoshimi revealed that Kenko Shigeki (World Level Wrestling's Golden Scorpion) would pair with him as Team Dynysty 2005 for one night against New York City Wrestling Tag Champions Wiley Coyote at the next Proving Grounds show. He did not know if his team with Kenko Shigeki would be a regular thing or just a one off because he only has a three show deal with Tri-State Wrestling at the moment. He would deffinetly be returning to Japan in late summer after his learning experience in america is over and hoped to return to Japan an all round better wrestler than he left.

In a taped promo released on the TSWrestling.com website. Mean Jean Cattley this evening threatened the Insane Heats career by insisting if he gets the chance to apply the crossface he won't let go for nobody. There is only one man in the Tri-State which deserves to be champion and that was Mean Jean Cattley. He was going to do what he should have at the Best of Three and finish Insane Heat off at Night 2 of the Proving Grounds in Philidelphia before going on to New York and being crowned the territories first ever champion whether the fans or the promoters wanted it or not.

mhm. I think that was a much better put together two posts. Its been a while since I was able to do any work on this diary but since then ive plowed through a year and a bit on the actual game and have fell completely in love with it as ive become more familiar with the charecters and the feuds ive developed. The first couple of shows are a bit haphazard as theirs no background but angles and plots will thinken throughout this tournament and as the year progresses towards the Anniversary show in January. Hope atleast one person outside of myself can enjoy this ;-)

Tri-State Wrestling Present

THE PROVING GROUNDS (Part 2- The Conclussion)

From the Municipal Fairgrounds, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

DVD Commentary By: Joan Evans & Christopher Bell

May 22nd 2005

Attendance: 2963

Rating: 32.9%

DVD Release Review

Go time for Tr-State Wrestlings debut in the Philadelphia area. The sheer number of people in attendance is testament to the claim made again and again that Philadelphia was the heartland of professional wrestling in America today. Almost 3,000 packed the Fairgrounds for the second set of qualifying matches in the Tri-State Title Tournamernt. The DVD opened up with footage of “The Technician” Marc Speed in his street gear with the rest of the ‘boys’ backstage. He’s sat in the middle of a bunch of them and is taking bets from wrestlers and staff alike on the Insane Heat vs Mean Jean Cattley rematch. Bets seem to be torn between the two. (15%)

The Insane Heat was standing by with Mr Bell after the interview with Cattley conducted during the week was shown again. Heat scoffed at Cattleys promises to end his career and told Cattley that he should ask any fan that attended the Best of Three?, any fan that bought the DVD. Ask them all who they thought was on course for victory and they will say without doubt the strongstyle superstar Insane Heat. He says without even the hint of a smile, that Cattley must be feeling the ‘heat’ for him to send out tapes to the TSW website and declared there would be only one winner tonight. There must be a winner. And the winners name would be the Insane Heat. (56%)

The show kicked off proper in style with the much anticipated Insane Heat versus Mean Jean Cattley Qualifier opening the show. It was largely down hill after this terrific match which the crowd was red hot for. Going almost twenty minutes the two men jockeyed for position, Heat always coming out on top when Cattley tried to exchange strikes with him, but Cattley managing to swing control back in his favour whenever he could take Heat off his feat and apply a submission on the floor. The whole match came across far better than the convoluted Best of Three falls match they had previously. Cattley did indeed go for the crossface submission, wrenching back on the neck of his opponent, but Heat had the counter of the night, twisting his body to roll ontop of Cattley hooking the legs for a sudden finish to the match. Cattley was irate afterwards and almost struck the referee in his rage, instead turning around and kicking Cattley in the side of the head as he was getting up. Cattley then stormed out of the ringside area with a face of thunder. Heat advances. (32/59/46)

Mean Jean Cattleys ‘good friend’, Big Smack Scot was in action next against former shoot fighter Willie York. By far the worst match of the night it won’t make any favourite lists at the end of the year. Willie is still too inexperienced as a professional wrestler to carry a match, and Scot is notorious for being sloppy and unhelpful. Scot was woe this time I think to stiff Willie as he’d more than likely knock him out but still the match they had was rife with sloppy moves and long rest holds. I say rest holds, not submissions, Scot kept bringing the match to a standstill to supposedly relay the next instructions in the match. Really, it couldn’t have been much of a worse match. Big Smack Scot got the victory in the end by disqualification when he had wound up Willie York with his cheating tactics so much that York decked the referee when he tried to separate them. The ref had no choice but to disqualify York and award Scot the victory which he gleefully accepted as he made a hurried exit. (31/39/25)

Leonardo Cortes, the legendary Mexican wrestler who has just come back from a year out of the business to be with his growing family made his first appearance in the states next. TSW really have been attracting an international array of wrestlers – from the likes of Los Fury and Leonardo Cortes in Mexico, to Yoshimi Mushashibo and Kenko Shigeki from japan. They seem to be gradually establishing themselves as the true wrestling fans promotion. Though they make me second guess that with matches like Scot and York. Hmm. Leonardo Cortes showed a little ring rust but still had glimpses of what made him so popular in Mexico a few years back and was on his game enough to defeat Little Bill Lebowski with his patented Super Fallaway Slam from the top rope. Cortes was given a cheer as he waited for his fallen opponent to stand up before shaking his hand. (6/56/34)

The final Tri-State Qualifier followed with New Yorks teenage technical prodigy Jorge Wilkes took on a man Tri-State Promoter Mr Bell declared high hopes for on his weekly radio show a few days ago – “Wildfire” Warren Technique. Technique demonstrated why he was called Wildfire with an intense showing that had Wilkes disorientated and almost beaten inside of five minutes. Jorge held in though and was able to get knees up on a senton splash attempt by Technique, hurting the older rookies back in the process. Wilkes attempted to end it there but Technique kicked out. A shortwhile later though Wilkes was able to roll out of a back suplex attempt by Warren and shove him shoulder first into the ring post. He sat him on the top rope and climbed up unleashing his favoured superplex, to the already sore back of Technique, and floated over for the three count and a huge win for the teenager who rolled out of the ring shouting at the referee to raise his arm and insulting Technique with shouts of “Whose the man?!”.

Once more we’ve reached Intermission time and whilst the crowd is taking a piss break, backstage they’re recording a pre-match interview with Deano Machino and Tom E. Hawk. Joan Evans is the interviewer and reminds Deano of his count out defeat to Reckless Abandon a few months back. Deano angrily responds by saying he has barely slept a wink since then as he considers it a huge embarrassment. He tells Reckless Abandon that tonight Deano is collecting some retribution for the setbacks they’ve caused him. This time, there is no count outs so hawk and Deano are prepared for a street fight. Are Reckless Abandon? (42%)

Back to ringside and the much anticipated NO COUNT OUT tag team grudge match between Air Attack Weasal & Flying Jimmy Foxx’ Reckless Abandon and the hated team of Deano Machino and Tom E. Hawk. The match didn’t take long to spill outside of the ring as anticipated And Deano and Hawk at first were in control as they battered the highflyers around ringside and the aisle. However the momentum shifted when Weasal who was whipped towards the railings jumped up and balanced on them expertly before moonsaulting off and laying out Tom E. Hawk. Moments later Flying Jimmy Foxx used the ring post to his advantage, when whipped towards it by Deano Machino he jumped up grabbing it and swung into the ring under the bottom rope, clambered to the top and leapt off with a death defying dive to nail Deano below. The match went back into the ring and began to resemble a traditional tag match with tags in and out and Reckless Abandon in complete control. However they didn’t have the killer instinct tonight and the showboating for their fans may have cost them the match as they both went up top for the Two by Two (Legdrop/Splash) double team move on Deano. Hawk pushed Weasal off the top rope to the floor below and followed him down fighting with him out of the ring, whilst Jimmy Foxx got nothing but canvas on his top rope splash attempt to Deano Machino as he rolled out of the way. Without the referee seeing, Deano appeared to remove what looked like a roll of tape from his tights and punched Foxx on the chin causing him to drop like a sack of spuds. Deano put the roll back in his tights and covered Foxx shouting for the referees attention and got the one, two, three for the win. (19/55/42)

The new look Team Dynasty 2005 pairing of Yoshimi Mushashibo and Kenko Shigeki (Golden Scorpion) should have been crowned new New York City Wrestling tag team champions after Wiley Coyote once again put that promotions belts on the line in Tri-State Wrestling. It was a classic encounter involving three masters of tag team wrestling (Wiley Steinway, Coyote Dynamite, Yoshimi Mushashibo) and one of the brightest Japanese junior heavyweight prospects (Kenko). Perhaps one of the most underrated of the night by the live, record breaking crowd. Mushashibo had Steinway in the deadly Yoshi Lock and was about to have the tap out victory when inexplicably Mean Jean Cattley run into the ring and attacked him, delivering a DDT to the ex-PGHW wrestler before attacking Kenko Shigeki and putting him in a crossface whilst Wiley Coyote hit the ACME Plan on Yoshimi. Nobody could explain, least of all the commentators what Cattley was doing out here, but the only thing that was clear was that Wiley Coyote had barely escaped with their tag belts. Team Dynasty 2005 win by Disqualification. (17/63/40)

The Main Event featured the four progressing men in the Tri-State Title Tournament in a tag match just like Night 1 of the Proving Grounds. The random pairings tonight however were far more intriguing than the previous show. The arrogant latin New Yorker Jorge Wilkes was paired with the modest Leonardo Cortes and the Insane Heat found himself teaming with Big Smack Scot. A man who he has had run ins with for a couple of shows. The tension showed at the start when Heat was slapped on the chest and told to start by Scot. He did and in return, refused to tag Scot in to the ring as he enjoyed a period of control in the match battering Wilkes from one side of the ring to the next. Wilkes low blowed Heat to the disapproving looks of Cortes and brought him over to his teams corner to tag out to Cortes who hit three snap suplexes in a row. Heat broke free and went to tag Scot in, but Scot backed off the apron turning his eyes to the crowd, jawing with the fans. Cortes unleashed a Russian legsweep on Heat to take control again. Heat wouldn’t be put down though, despite his partners lack of help he hung in and scored the win with a double leg cradle on Jorge Wilkes completely against the flow of the match and to the delight of the fans. Scot surprised, climbed into the ring as Wilkes and Cortes were leaving and hovered around the Insane Heat who looked knackered. Heat stood up and Scot delivered a Chokebomb laying him out as the show ended, Scot shouting to anybody who would listen that he would become Tri-State Champion. (23/48/33)

Yoshimi Mushashibo backstage stormed up to Tri-State Promoter Christopher Bell and unleashed a verbal tirade in Japanese that Bell did not understand. One of the Japanese reporters following translated, informing Bell that Yoshi was demanding a match with Mean Jean Cattley at the Tri-State Finals next month or he was going back to Japan this very instant. Mr Bell apologised for Cattleys attack saying he did not know why it happened and assured Yoshimi that if that’s what he wanted… he’s got it. Yoshimi Mushashibo versus Mean Jean Cattley at the Tri-State Finals.(43%)

Right at the end of the DVD, the cameraman caught up with Mean Jean Cattley as he was leaving. Cattley said no explanations were necessary for his attack on Yoshimi. Cattley is a man who makes headlines. If he wasn’t going to do it by winning the Tri-State Title, then he was going to do it another way – like beating the fabled Japanese star Yoshimi Mushashibo! He warned Yoshimi, that so long as immigration didn’t kick him out of the country before the Tri-State Finals, then he would become another notch on Cattleys ‘almost criminal record’. (52%)

Snippits from TSWrestling.com, local media and other sources

TSWrestling is reporting the fully completed card with a packed collection of seven matches, three of which are centered upon the Tri-State Title Tournament. The final eight wrestlers left in the tournament have been divided into two groups of four - Brent Hill, Hell Monkey, Steve Flash and Black Eagle in one, and Jorge Wilkes, Insane Heat, Leonardo Cortes and Big Smack Scot in the other. Each group will compete in a four way, one fall to a finish match with the two winners advancing to meet one another at the end of the show to decide the title. The belt shall be presented by Tri-State Promoter Christopher Bell, along with a trophy with the date of the event, the Final match, and winner etched onto it live at the show! It is hoped that the presentation of a trophy - which the winner gets to keep, even if they lose the title at a later date - will add to the prestige and importance of the event and make it a show nobody will forget.

A third fourway match was added to the Tri-State Finals this evening, with a different pace in mind. It will be a must see Jr Heavyweight clash as Kenko Shigeki steps into singles competition on US soil for the first time to compete against John Greed, Silver Shark and American Elemental. Each of these competitors are gifted performers and willing to sacrifice life and limb in the pursuit of victory. This will be the first time Silver Shark and American Elemental have competed against each other since forming their 'Two Masked Superhero's tag team.

Lastly, Dermot O'Logical has made a request to face the "Technician" Marc Speed in one on one action. Dermot blames Speed for being the man who submitted to Yoshimi Mushashibo in their three way encounter at the first of the Proving Ground shows. Dermot has yet to win in Tri-State Wrestling and must fear that he could be overlooked for future shows if he suffers another defeat.

It is perhaps the match that will steal the show at the Tri-State Finals. Mean Jean Cattley battles the japanese sensation Yoshimi Mushashibo in a potential masterclass of two of the finest technicians around. Cattley considers the Tri-State his territory and wishes to make a mark and overshadow the crowning of the first ever Tri-State Champion with a huge upset win over Yoshimi Mushashibo. The two competitors were on hand to face the japanese press and local media. Yoshimi, speaking through interpretors said he would be returning to Japan after this show but had no intention of suffering the humiliation of defeat to Cattley. He warned Mean Jean that he got the upper hand on him once because he wasn't expecting to be assaulted... when they meet face to face it will be an entirely different story. An attack from behind is the biggest sign of disrespect to Yoshimi and he would have his revenge.

Mean Jean Cattley was a one man self-promotion campaign spending the majority of the meet and greet with the press talking about his record in east coast wrestling, and his great affection for the purorescu scene. He said he was not a bad man. He was just a man that didn't settle for anything but being number one. He claimed assaulting Yoshimi achieved its purpose - it drew one of the biggest free agents in wrestling into a match at the biggest independent show of the year. Cattley was committed to making a name for himself - at Mushashibo's expense.

With his impressive victory over Mean Jean Cattley, the Insane Heat cemented his place as the favourite to win the Tri-State Title. He took a moment out of his training regime at the downtown gym to speak to a member of the TSWrestling.com web team. Asked of the seven other men left in the tournament who he thought was his biggest threat he named Big Smack Scot. He wouldn't be underestimating any of his competition though and claimed he would be honoured to carry this promotion as its first champion.

We can also confirm the first details of Tri-State Wrestlings return to Philidelphia. The six losers of the four way elimination matches at the Tri-State Finals will be back in the ring together on night one of our first ever double header. The six men will be involved in the biggest elimination match in TSW history as we look to determine the first ever challenger for for the Tri-State Title. The winner will face the champion - whomever he may be - 24hrs later in the same venue.

Another match has been booked for Night 1 of the double header in the shape of a singles contest between the Mile High Clubs Jacob Jett against "Wildfire" Warren Technique. This should be an interesting exhibition between the young lions of the roster. Jacob Jett already has two victories over Warren, one in a triple threat and one in a tag team match. Can "Wildfire" get one up on his friend?
