Leaked music...

I've just been browsing through the board and I'm noticing how many song and Full albums are getting leaked lately. Surely someone will have to stop this soon as it's getting out of hand.

I know what you mean and I have confessed to being guilty to this in the case of the new Oasis album. That does not mean that I will just get it for free. I will go out and buy it when it comes out and add to to my collection which is full of original albums. It's not that I want to get a free album or anything, it's just that I've been waiting for ages for the album and when it's available I just want to get it and listen to it.

Noel Gallagher was asked about the leaked songs in an interview and he said, 'if you can find them, go get them'.

People like Dan, Dragsy, Ellis, rvd, Tristy and I (et al) are firmly against downloading music.

And films, don't forget that films.

Yes, we're against the downloading of films, too. I had forgotten, thanks.

If anything, it'll cause the record industry to do something other than sue music fans. Like move to a digital medium instead of CDs and whatnot.

Then we'll be against downloading the new digital medium too, right?

I'm not against the downloading of things, as long as it's in an effort to scout the product for the possibility of a purchase.

I absolutely hate it when my friends download something, and won't go out and buy it, even if they claim to love it. I have one friend who downloads and burns entire albums with no intention of ever spending any money on them, and the two of us get into major fights over it a lot of the time.

Thats exactly my attitude when it comes to downloading music. If you like it enough, buy it.

Meh, I would still buy albums more often it weren't for the fact that not a lot of money goes to artists and well, the RIAA fucked themselves over when they started suing people. It's one thing to be pissed about a "dip" (which by the way, there hasn't been a dip at all really in the music industry) by suing the people that make the money for the people that make up the RIAA.

I'm not going to say that I'm against or for downloading music, but hey, whatever. And if they change the way everything's made, then cool, just don't charge 15 dollars for an 11 track cd.

Yeah, perhaps the leaking might be excessive, but oh well. The music industry should take advantage of downloading music rather than discourage it. I'm not saying that they should only have music to be downloaded, but at the very least come up with a way so that it's not costing the customer more money than it should, etc.

Just my P.O.V. on the whole thing.

I downloaded Limpbizkit's album before it came out, and I had every intention in the world to buy it on 5/3, but the fucker costed $15. And it only had 8 songs on it.

Compared to the new NIN album, which has 13 songs, and it only cost me $11.

I still think downloading music is a bad thing, just makes so many changes. Just imagine the amount of people who sit and download a new single and don't go out and buy that single. That single only makes it to the number four spot in the charts, yet if them people who downloaded it had of brought it then it'd have been number one. Just stuff like that which I dislike.

Cant lie because I do download music, but most of the time it's to check out new products by the artist to see if it's worth the money I'm going to spend on it in the shop. Although HMV are bastards, prices are just pathetic in there

For me it depends on the artist. I'm not going to buy a Buddy Holly CD when all of the money goes to Paul McCartney who's a rich fuker anyway. Similar thing for pop acts, chances are I'll like 2 songs max from their CD, so I download them instead of buying the whole CD. Plus most artists make their money on the road (except Metallica who make a shitload from CD's) not from CD's.

However if it's an indie band I'll download a handful of tracks and if I like them I'll go grab the CD. If anything I think d/l music has made me buy more albums as I've heard stuff from genres I like which aren't necessarily played on radio (folk etc).

Edit-

I have a question for you, and everybody else opposed to downloading music. Would you feel the same about music that is so obscure that it can't be purchased in record stores, online, or by other means? Or for example, perhaps the only means of purchasing the album is an extremely exspensive LP? I personally support the downloading of music, however I also support the artists I download (fiscally that is). In somes cases the music I download is next to impossible to buy, and if I do buy the album (which I almost always do), then I buy it on vinyl.

Yeah, because singles are really easy to obtain, right?
