Rise of the Independents Presents: The Bar Has Been Set

Saturday October 29th, 2005

"The God of War" Damian (1-0) vs. "The Suicidal Demon" Azrieal (0-1)

This was an ok opener, something didn't click though. Azrieal kept using his speed but it only worked for so long before Damian just pulverized him. Azrieal hit a nasty M. Bison-like double stomp to the back of the head as well as his stiff kicks to the back/roll through/sidekick to the face combo but couldn't get the victory. Soon Damian was really laying in, hitting his double knees in the corner on a seated Azrieal and then stomping on the mat as the crowd starts to clap along and BAM! Running boot scrape! He then crashed down on Azrieal off the top with the absolutely devastating Kamikaze Cannonball Kneedrop and the fans went nuts and Damian got the easy pinfall. Who is going to stop this man?

WINNER---Damian

** 3/4

"Spyder" Nate Webb (0-1) vs. Alex Shelley (1-0)

This was a good match as Webb tried to throw Shelley off his game with goofy antics and dancing but Shelley schooled him on the mat, forcing Webb to get serious. Webb got the upper hand and baffled Shelley with some Nate2P, and then pciking up the tempo, hitting an Arachnid kick and his spin-around Flatliner for near-falls. He hit the Nebraskan Tumbleweed in the corner and then hung Shelley in the Tree of Woe. He went for The Thang, his moonsault Van Terminator but Shelley avoided it and hit a moonsault for 2. In the end, Nate went for Soylent Green II (It's Still People) but Shelley landed on his feet and took Webb down into the Border City Stretch and Nate tapped out!

WINNER---Alex Shelley

***

Alex Shelley got on the mic after the match and said he was unstoppable because he had talent on loan from God himself and for anybody to try him and be shut down.

Paul London (1-0) vs. Nigel McGuinness (0-1)

Odd match-up here but they made it work. London seemed confused by Nigel's European style but was able to connect with spinning heel kicks and his trademark Dropsaults. He missed a 450 and Nigel took over with stiff European uppercuts. He started work on the arm but London avoided that with quick pinfall attempts so Nigel changed his strategy, resorting to cheap tactics to stay ahead of the action. London came back with his Waffle Face maneuver, a double chickenwing into a sitout facebuster. He went up top for the London Star Press but Nigel kicked the ref into the ropes, crotching London. He pulled London out so his feet were draped over the ropes and then drove him down with the Tower of London! He covered but he didn't pull London out of the corner enough and Paul got a foot on the ropes! Nigel argued with the ref but was surprised by a schoolboy from London for 2 and 3/4! Nigel missed a swing and used the middle rope to rebound but Paul caught him with a boot and tried for that Legsweep DDT but Nigel held onto the ref and London crashed down and Nigel used a folding press to get the tainted 3 count!

WINNER---Nigel McGuinness

*** 1/4

Jimmy Rave (0-1) vs. Beef Wellington (0-1)

This match was much like Webb/Shelley where Beef was goofing around, trying to agitate the more serious Rave. Whenever Rave got in control, Beef went to the eyes. He hit his absolutely breath-taking Triple Shooting Star Double Axhandle off the top rope for ONLY A 2 COUNT :o He went for E. Coli but Rave twisted out, hit a STO over the knee and then a back suplex for a close 2 count. He went for Ghanarea but Beef blocked it and hit an atomic drop, which set up Rave for you know what! Beef scaled the ropes and went for the Ass Punch and NAILED it! Rave held his ass in severe pain and Beef went for the I Can't Believe It's Not Cutter but Rave escaped, dropkicked Beef's knee and then hit the Running Knee to the face followed by Ghanarea for the 3 count!

WINNER---Jimmy Rave

***

We go backstage where CM Punk delivered a good promo hyping up his match against Super Dragon in tonight's main event, basically saying he saw how Dragon destroyed Jimmy Rave last show and dared Dragon to TRY do the same to him.

"Lightning" Mike Quackenbush (1-0) vs. Brandon Thomaselli (0-1)

Good little match here as it was a nice veteran vs. youngster type match in the same vein as the old Bret Hart title defenses against mid-card faces like 123 Kid & Virgil. Brandon got a few close near-falls but Quack never really lost control of the match and hit the Quackendriver for the pinfall.

WINNER---Mike Quackenbush

*** 1/2

They shook hands after.

Christopher Daniels cut a promo on Teddy Hart saying he deserved none of the praise he got because he did not have the right attitude to ever succeed in the Indies. Harsh words coming from one of the great veterans of the Indy circuit, but perhaps all too true.

Chris Sabin (0-1) vs. "Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen (1-0)

Sabin had quite a challenge ahead of him considering how easily Steen disposed of Azrieal last show but he was up to the task, showing he really is a very underrated worker. He gave Steen a run for his money, almost winning the match several times after a Hurricane DDT, Catatonic into a backbreaker as well as a huge running Liger Bomb but Steen kept kicking out. He hit a sick superkick, followed by his picture perfect moonsault for 2. Swinging Flatliner from the apron gets 2 as well. Sweet sequence as Steen goes for his Go Home Driver, Sabin reverses into a crucifix but Steen rolls through and tries a somersault legdrop but Sabin moves and quickly runs off the ropes with a STIFF running dropkick to Steen's face! He gets Steen up for Cradle Shock but Steen reverses it into an inverted DDT! He then stands Sabin up and drops him down with the Package Piledriver and that's all she wrote!

WINNER---Kevin Steen

***

Teddy Hart (1-0) vs. "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels (0-1)

This was good, Teddy showed why he should be considered one of the finest on the Indies with a stand-up performance in this one. Top rope Asai moonsault to the floor connects. Daniels comes back with an STO on the floor followed by an Arabian Press on a standing Hart on the floor also. Best Moonsault Ever misses but so does Teddy's Hart Attack shooting star press. Blue Thunder Driver by Daniels gets 2. Teddy goes up top, is caught by Daniels, Daniels tries his Fall From Grace iconoclasm variation but Teddy kicks him away and hits his diving spike DDT for a CLOSE 2 count. Daniels caught Teddy's arm and maneuvered around into a lightning-fast Last Rites to put Teddy away!

WINNER---Christopher Daniels

*** 1/4

Main event time!

Super Dragon (1-0) vs. CM Punk (1-0)

This match was incredible and was the best match of the tourney so far. Dragon missed a Tope Con Hilo early on and went sailing though 4 rows of chairs. Punk was on the offensive for a large majority of the match from that point on. He just couldn't put Dragon away though! Welcome to Chicago and split-legged moonsault gets 2. Pepsi Twist gets 2. Devil's Lock DDT gets 2! Punk really gets frustrated and hastily tries for a Pepsi Plunge but Dragon turns it into a Blue Thunder Driver off the top and both men are out! They are up at the ref's 8 count and Dragon is really laying in the punishment, hitting his UFO springboard spin kick as well as the dreaded Curb Stomp! Punk escaped an attempted Psycho Driver, went for the Shining Wizard but Dragon blocked that and leveled Punk with a Lariat! He went up top and came off with a double stomp to the back of Punk's head, it's gotta be over! 1......2......NO! Punk gets a shoulder up BARELY! Dragon stands him right back up and goes for the Supernatural Driver but Punk goes up and over behind Dragon and rolls him up in a State roll and bridges over Dragon for the surprise 3 count! What a match!

WINNER---CM Punk

Rise of the Independents Presents: Blackout

Saturday November 5th, 2005

Eddie Kingston starts the show off with a promo saying that it doesn't matter if it was El Generico he was facing or some other replacement. He is the last of a dying breed and he will come out on top. He goes to walk away but he is nailed from behind by a steel chair! The camera pans up and it's SABIAN!! Eddie Kingston's partner in Blackout in CZW! Ruckus comes into view and chases Sabian away and then tends to Kingston. We have Kingston vs. Sabian tonight!

BJ Whitmer (0-1) vs. "The Anarchist" Arik Cannon (0-1)

Well I don't think anybody expected the opener to absolutely steal the show but this one did. These guys beat the shit out of each other with brutally stiff forearms and chops. It opened up after that with Whitmer nailing a superplex but almost killing himself at the same time. Cannon came back hooking BJ in a double underhook and draping BJ's feet over the top rope and then driving him down with a sitout facebuster! Cannon went for the Glimmering Warlock but BJ ducked and hit a Dragon suplex for 2! He went for the Exploder 98, Cannon elbowed out and hit a brutal backdrop driver! He then nailed the Glimmering Warlock for the 1...2...NO! BJ kicked out! Cannon immediately got BJ up and hit a SICK Burning Hammer DANGEROOOOUUS!! THAT finally got the elusive 3 count.

WINNER---Arik Cannon

**** 1/4

Homicide (1-0) vs. Jimmy Jacobs (0-1)

Jacobs held his own until Homicide took control in the corner and hit the running knee. Double underhook superplex gets 2. Jacobs had a small comeback with a big boot and an inverted Pedigree for a near-fall. In the end though, Jacobs missed his back senton off the top and Homicide hit a brutal Lariat to score the 3 count.

WINNER---Homicide

*** 1/2

A video highlighted the recent developments of 2 of the hottest young prospects in professional wrestling today, Matt Sydal and Jay Lethal. They will go 1 on 1 later on tonight!

Trent Acid (0-1) vs. Jimmy Yang (1-0)

Yang used veteran tactics to keep the upper hand on Acid here, although Acid is no rookie himself. Yang used some lightning fast kicks but Acid was able to counter with some of his own, hitting a 3 kick combo and a roaring elbow for 2. He then hit an Orange Crush powerbomb for 2! Yang stopped Acid up top and hit a cross-armed Iconoclasm and then went up top but missed Yang Time! Acid went for his Inverted Brainbuster but Yang escaped that and hit a Perfect Driver to score the win!

WINNER---Jimmy Yang

*** 1/4

Ruckus & Eddie Kingston cut a promo backstage on Sabian, saying he turned his back on Blackout after all they had been through. Kingston said he would make Sabian pay tonight and that he is going to Lance Storm to request that this match be anything goes, CZW style!

Low Ki (1-0) vs. Excess 69 (0-1)

This was a glorified squash, Excess didn't get in much at all, Low Ki seems to be a man on a mission. He finished with a nasty Tidal Krush in the corner and a Ki Krusher.

WINNER---Low Ki

*** 1/4

Ruckus (1-0) vs. B-Boy (1-0)

These 2 CZW stalwarts put on a great match. Ruckus hit a somersault neckbreaker and a rolling Fameasser for 2. On the outside he hit his running shooting star off the apron on B-Boy on the floor. Back in, B-Boy hit a spinning Siakolypse-like neckbreaker and a Death Valley Driver for close 2's. Ruckus reverses an attempted Exploder into the corner with a unique move where he flipped B-Boy over backwards and caught him with a Cutter. He missed the Leap of Faith off the top though. Both men got up and traded strikes, B-Boy got the upper hand as you might expect, tried to whip Ruckus to the corner but Ruckus reversed. Ruckus goes for the Razzle Dazzle but B-Boy moved and pasted Ruckus with a palm strike and Ruckus slumped down in the corner. B-Boy knocked his fists on his head as the fans did it too and you know what time it is....FACELIFT! B-Boy called for the end and nailed Ruckus with a Shining Wizard and got the 3 count!

WINNER---B-Boy

*** 1/2

They shake hands afterwards.

"Double C" Claudio Castagnoli vs. "The Wrestling Machine" Austin Aries

Very even match-up. While Aries may have more of a reputation on the Indy scene, Claudio is fast making his own. He used serveral of his trademark Swiss uppercuts to neutralize the high impact offense of Aries, even blocking an attempted Brainbuster by Aries, hoisting up for a suplex and then turning it into a Swiss uppercut! Aries escaped an attempted Ricola Bomb, hit that big running dropkick in the corner as well as his power drive elbow for 2. Claudio almost got a submission with the Swiss Sleeper Holding but Aries escaped that. In the end, Claudio had Aries up in an inverted Torture Rack which he likes to turn into a Cutter, a move he calls the Atlantida Cutter but Aries twisted and reversed it into his Crucifix Bomb! He then nailed a STIFF kick to a kneeling Claudio's head! Up top Aries goes and he comes off with his 450 Splash to score the 3 count!

WINNER---Austin Aries

*** 1/4

Jay Lethal (1-0) vs. Matt Sydal (0-1)

This was barely beaten out by Whitmer vs. Cannon as the match of the night, but don't let that take away from how good this match was, both men really busted their asses. Too many near-falls to count, Sydal busted out all his big moves, his standing moonsault, his inverted DDT/legdrop, the corkscrew quebrada, etc. Lethal also trying everything to put Sydal away, his running Benoit-esque lariat, the diving headbutt, the Lethal Injection second rope DDT, but Sydal kept kicking out. Lethal changed up his offense and started working over Sydal's leg, hoping to neutralize Matt's high-flying shenanigans. It got hot & heavy around the 25 minute mark when Lethal hit his release Dragon Suplex and Sydal got his foot on the rope. Lethal went up top but was caught by Sydal and Matt hit his Moonsault Belly to Belly but he hurt his knee on the way down and he couldn't make the cover! He finally crawled over to make the cover but the bell rang! Everybody was confused and then the ring announcer told us that the 30 minute time limit had expired! The fans all chanted "5 more minutes" but the referee is unable to change the rules of a match and he was forced to end the match at a stalemate.

WINNER---NONE (TIME LIMIT DRAW)

**** 1/4

Eddie Kingston (0-1) vs. Sabian (subbing for El Generico) (0-1) ---Anything Goes match

Well Eddie got his wish granted by Lance Storm and this match was Anything Goes! This got hardcore in no time, King really laid into Sabian hard with forearms and chops. Sabian then sent King outside and hit a somersault plancha. He also hit a double stomp off the apron on King! Ouch! He piled up a bunch of chairs and tried to hit a swinging DDT but King blocked and hit a brutal Uranage suplex on them! Tables soon came into play as well. Sabian was in firm control at this point, hitting a double stomp off the top rope to the floor, putting King through a table!! That got a well-deserved "Holy Shit!" chant. Problem was though that Sabian had to pin King INSIDE the ring! He finally got King in but King kicked out of the pin attempt at 2! Sabian missed a 450 and King went to work, annihilating Sabian with forearms and then a running Yakuza kick in the corner, followed by another Uranage suplex but Sabian showed his toughness, kicking out at 2. King went to lock in his Kondo Clutch but Sabian kicked him downstairs. Sabian then went and got another table and brought it into the ring. He set it up and put King on it and headed up top, it didn't look good for King, but he somehow mustered up the energy to climb up the turnbuckles and hit a Uranage superplex through the table!! Another "Holy Shit" chant breaks out as King covers for 1...2...3! Eddie Kingston has done it, defeating his fellow Blackout member in a hellacious Anything Goes Match!

WINNER---Eddie Kingston

***

Kingston was celebrating but Homicide slips into the ring out of nowhere and blindsides King with a Lariat to the back of the neck! These two will face each other at the next show for E & F Blocks, but a sneak attack is unprecedented in this tournament until this moment! Homicide then locks in his version of the STF and King is screaming in pain as the show comes to an end!

Tony Mamaluke out of Rise of the Independents, James Gibson to replace him

Yes you read that right, Tony Mamaluke has suffered what some speculate to be a career-ending knee injury. No details are known right now but it occurred OUTSIDE the ring. James Gibson, who was recently let go by WWE, will take Mamaluke's place and starts next Saturday against Colt Cabana.

Rise of the Independents Presents: Triumphant Return

Saturday November 12th, 2005

Petey Williams (2-0) vs. Delirious (0-2)

Great opening match with some hilarious comedy spots in the beginning but it got serious when Petey started using underhanded tactics. He stayed in control for a good 5 minutes before Delirious mounted a comeback and hit a somersault plancha on the floor. Panic Attack gets 2 inside the ring. Delirious keeps trying to hit In Vitro Fertilization, yelling out loudly before each attempt. After yelling it out and attempting the move 4 different times in about 30 seconds, Petey finally hits a snap neckbreaker to escape. He goes up top but is met by Delirious. Delirious tries for a superplex but Petey gets the advantage and goes for a TOP ROPE Canadian Destroyer but luckily Delirious holds on and Petey tumbles to the canvas. Delirious turns around and jumps off with Shadows Over Hell and he turns Petey over and scores the pin in what some might call an upset victory!

WINNER---Delirious

*** 1/2

Sexxxy Eddy (0-2) vs. Doug Williams (1-1)

This was an ok match although both men have drastically different styles. Eddy hit some nice high-flying moves early on but he was overwhelmed by the technical prowess of Doug Williams and Williams blocked an attempted Total Sexxxtacy and hit a DRAGON Chaos Theory for the victory.

WINNER---Doug Williams

***

Backstage AJ Styles cut a promo on his match tonight with Danny Daniels, saying that the one time he faced Danny Daniels, Daniels beat him and that he is getting that win back tonight.

Chris Hero (2-0) vs. Puma (0-2)

Good mat-based match here with plenty of near-falls. Hero worked on Puma's leg and as a result Puma couldn't bridge with any of his trademark suplexes. He hit a huge Tiger suplex but couldn't hold the bridge and Hero was able to keep in charge. Puma got a few good flurries in and tried to lock in his Nagata-style Leglock but his leg gave out when he went to step over. Hero saw this and pounded on that knee and locked in a painful Hangman's Clutch, stretching the knee AND the neck and Puma had no choice but to tap.

WINNER---Chris Hero

*** 1/4

Jack Evans (0-2) vs. Frankie Kazarian (0-2)

Good match, Evans actually got a lot of offense in, even busting out one of his insane dives to the floor. Ode to Blitzkrieg gets 2. Kazarian comes back, spiking Evans with a slingshot DDT for 2. They both were up top and Kazarian was pushed off by Evans but Evans missed the 630. A bit later on, Evans tried a springboard spinning kick but Kazarian moved and DROVE Evans down with a sick-looking Wave of the Future to score his first tournament win!

WINNER---Frankie Kazarian

*** 1/4

Handshake afterwards.

Backstage Bryan Danielson hyped his match with Roderick Strong, citing their previous epic battles in ROH and saying he would come out on top yet again because Rod is just plain not in Dragon's league.

Samoa Joe (2-0) vs. Sonjay Dutt (1-1)

This wasn't as good as their match in TNA, something just didn't click. Sonjay kept the big man on the run for most of the match, but Samoa Joe ain't just no big man. He adapted to Dutt's hit and run style and struck at the right opportunity, sending Dutt skidding along the floor from a massive Misawa-esque Tope suicida. That was pretty much the beginning of the end for SOnjay right there as Joe hit all his big moves, ending the match with a Muscle Buster and a Chokeout.

WINNER---Samoa Joe

** 3/4

AJ Styles (2-0) vs. Danny Daniels (2-0)

Good back and forth battle, Daniels really stepped it up and went move for move with AJ. He hit a huge swinging gutbuster to really set AJ at a disadvantage early on. Double stomp/senton combo got 2 and a half. He kept going for numerous different variations of the Piledriver but AJ somehow thwarted them all off. He reversed an attempted double underhook piledriver into his brutal hammerlock backdrop driver, dropping Danny on his head. Discus lariat for 2. Danny grabbed the ropes to block a Styles Clash and rolled up AJ for a CLOSE 2. He finally hit a traditional Piledriver but AJ somehow kicked out! Danny spent too much arguing with the ref and AJ capitalized with a big spin kick. He went for his quebrada DDT but Danny caught him upside down into the Tombstone!! One...two...NO! AJ got his foot on the bottom rope! Danny can't believe it and calls for the sitout Tombstone, the move he beat AJ with at the 2003 Ted Petty Invitational! He picks him up for it but AJ reverses into a victory roll for a 2. Danny quickly gets up and flips over AJ into a sunset flip but AJ rolls through, picks Danny up by the legs and DOWN with the Styles Clash! 1...2...3!

WINNER---AJ Styles

*** 1/4

Show of respect after by Danny, acknowledging AJ as the better man.

Overseer of tournament foregoings Lance Storm makes his way to the ring and introduces James Gibson as Tony Mamaluke's replacement in the tournament to a huge ovation!

James Gibson (1-1) vs. Colt Cabana (0-2)

Damn good match that gave their previous great match at ROH Dragon Gate Invasion a run for its money. Cabana was able to match Gibson on the mat so Gibson uncharacteristically took it to the air with a somersault plancha on the floor! Back in now and Gibson hit that patented swinging neckbreaker and then a mean back suplex to soften up the neck for that Front Guillotine Choke of his. He also has been using that Dragon sleeper with the body scissors of late in his recent WWE tenure. Colt used some of his wacky British stylings and quick rollups to fluster Gibson and then laid in the heavy artillery, scoring with a Tornado snap suplex, moonsault press and frog splash for near-falls. Gibson cut Colt up top and hit a superplex and rolled over into the front guillotine but Colt made it to his feet with Gibson still hanging on and hit a Northern Lights suplex but he couldn't hold the bridge. Gibson sent Colt off the ropes but Colt ducked a chop and hit a huge Lariat but he couldn't cover right away! 2 count on the delayed pin. He went for the Colt 45, Gibson escaped and held one of the arms, getting Colt right into position for the Tiger Driver and he hits it! 1...2...NO! Gibson rolls Colt over and again goes right to the Front Guillotine and this time Cabana has to tap!

WINNER---James Gibson

****

The 2 shake hands after the match as Gibson makes a huge first impression!

It's main event time!

"American Dragon" Bryan Danielson (1-1) vs. Roderick Strong (2-0)

Very stiff, old school style matchup. Strong played the face in peril as Danielson was relentless on the attack on Rod's back, even going so far as to constantly use backbreakers to really shove it in the face of the "Messiah of the Backbreaker." Rod came back with a desperation fireman carry gutbuster but he couldn't follow up with the usual running boot because of his back. Dragon hit some brutal European uppercuts and then locked in a Bearhug! He then slowly set Rod down on the mat and tried to turn into a Crab of sorts, he's made people tap before with that but Rod desperately struggles free. Danielson then with a diving headbutt to the back for 2. He taunted Strong with slaps to the head but Strong lashed out and hit a Half Nelson backbreaker out of nowhere and both men were down, Strong biding himself some time! They both got up trading blows, Strong got the advantage with his blistering chops and hit a back body drop. Uranage backbreaker gets 2! Now Danielson is favoring HIS back as well! Rod grabs the legs and locks in the Stronghold, the fans chant "Tap! Tap! Tap!" at Dragon but he is able to reach the ropes after 15 seconds, however, the damage may be done! Strong again goes for the Stronghold but is kicked off, Dragon then sidesteps a big boot and hits the Regal Plex but Strong kicks out at 2! Dragon senses the end is near and boosts Strong up on the turnbuckle backwards, you know what this is! He goes for the back superplex but Strong turns it into a crossbody in mid-air and stays on top, 1...2...3!! Roderick Strong finally defeats Bryan Danielson!

WINNER---Roderick Strong

*** 1/4
