News Round-up: 'Unfinished Business'

--- APW have gone right ahead and granted 'Classic' COLT CABANA's challenge for a re-match with ALEX SHELLEY. APW doesn't want a similar situation to 'A Little Respect' weekend where it gave Shelley an open contract to face whoever he chose, and he chose HALLOWICKED. As well as Hallowicked did, APW wants the best competition over it's Championship belt, and he simply wasn't at the right level yet. We will try and make sure the Championship will be defended against those who deserve championship matches, and APW feels Cabana has just reason to be unhappy with the way his title match ended, and thus deserves a re-match.

The re-match will happen at 'Unfinished Business' as APW returns home to Edison, NJ.

--- The 'Midwest vs. SoCal' series ends at 'Unfinished Business'! The series is currently tied 2-2 between the IRON SAINTS team of Brandon, Vito and Sal Thomaselli (representing the Midwest) and the SoCal team of THE AERIAL EXPRESS Scorpio Sky and Quicksilver, and THE HUMAN TORNADO. The series ends in an Elimination rules six man tag match, where a point will be gained for every fall. This means the series could still end in a comfortable 5-2 score for either side, or be a lot tighter, as literally every fall counts.

--- Word has been surprisingly quiet on from the two teams involved in the tag team championship match at 'Unfinished Business'. CHARLIE HAAS will team with SAMOA JOE to face the Champions RODERICK and SEDRICK STRONG. The rivalry between Haas and Roderick has been building since the first night of APW action, but neither has made a comment ahead of this huge match, presumably due to doing a lot training for the contest.

--- MILANO COLLECTION AT and DANNY DANIELS will again collide at 'Unfinished Business'. After being given a tombstone onto a chair, APW weren't sure if Milano would be able to compete at the show, but was lucky to not sustain any major injuries. Milano is looking for revenge for the attack, and for the way that Daniels has twice now cheated t beat him.

--- An important Tag Team Match has been added to 'Unfinished Business'. JIMMY RAVE will team with 'Double C' CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI to take on MATT SYDAL and JAY LETHAL. Castagnoli and Sydal traded wins at the ' A Little Respect' weekend, and Lethal is unhappy with how Rave cheated to beat him on night one of the weekend. This is sure to be an important match for all four men involved.

--- After picking up his first win in the six-man Mayhem at 'A Little Respect' weekend HALLOWICKED will look to get back-to-back wins at 'Unfinished Business' as he takes on Salvatore Rinauro, who lost to JOSH DANIELS in his last match.

--- Another major match has been added to 'Unfinished Business'. Neither man had an opponent for the show, so APW have signed DELIRIOUS vs. JERRY LYNN for the event! Delirious has been very impressive lately, and this is a major chance for him to step up and prove himself against one of the country's best independent wrestlers. On a card with a lot of matches based on rivalry and hatred, it will be refreshing to see a match based solely on competition. The outcome of the match could determine future title matches as both men have impressive backgrounds and good recent results.

--- 'The Notorious 187' HOMICIDE has also been added to the card. He will face JOSH DANIELS, who picked up a big win vs. Sal Rinauro on the first night of ' A Little Respect' weekend.

--- Those last two matches will be very important for JERRY LYNN and HOMICIDE, because after 'Unfinished Business', APW Goes to Philadelphia on July 14th to present 'On The Rocks', and the first match signed for that show is Jerry Lynn vs. Homicide! Lynn believes that the neck injury sustained in a post-match attack by Homicide is the reason why Lynn lost the APW Championship to ALEX SHELLEY, and wants vengeance! Both hold a pinfall win over each other so far in APW, Homicide pinning Lynn in a tag team bout at the 'Face/Off' show, and Lynn defeated Homicide in an APW Championship match at 'Retribution', a match with lead to that post-match attack.

--- SOUTHERN COMFORT will make their return to APW after 'Unfinished Business' at the July 'On the Rocks' show, from Philadelphia.

--- A final match has been added to the card for 'Unfinished Business'. THE WILDCARDS team of Eddie Kingston and 'Black' Jack Marciano will return to take on THE RING CREW EXPRESS.

Unfinished Business

June 16th 2006

Edison, New Jersey

--- The home release starts with Charlie Haas. He briefly mentions Homicide, and said that he will 'be after him soon'. He mostly talks about Roderick Strong though, in what was a decent promo. He says Strong proved nothing last month, when Strong pinned Lethal, not Haas to retain the tag team championships. He says Strong still hasn't proven he can beat him, and that he won't beat him tonight, or ever. He says he and Samoa Joe will be the new APW Tag Team Champions. He turns round and enters a room – a room with a sign reading 'Samoa Joe' on the door.

Roderick Strong did a quick interview saying how he can, and will beat Charlie Haas. He says that at the end of the day, the Strong's won last month, and they'll win tonight, it doesn't matter who they face. He vows to beat Haas.

Colt Cabana did a good, short interview in the same vein as many of his recent ones. He vows to win the APW Championship tonight, and rid the fans of Alex Shelley, getting revenge on the way their last match ended.

1) THE RING CREW EXPRESS def. THE WILDCARDS (10:34) in a poor opener. A really bland match, with seemed to lack any real direction at times. Jack Marciano gets isolated alone in the ring, leaving The Ring Crew Express to first hit an 'Assisted Slice Bead #2', then an 'Assisted Senton' for the three count. After, The Wildcards regroup, and attack Dunn and Marcos with punches and kicks, leaving the Ring Crew Express down in the ring, as they cheer to the jeering crowd and then leave.

2) HALLOWICKED def. SALVATORE RINAURO (9:36) in another poor match. A slow starter, then some key spots were botched as the pair tried to liven the match up. Hallowicked gets the win with the 'Monsta Mash', to get two back-to-back wins in APW.

3) Midwest vs. SoCal Series

Match Five

2-2

Elimination Six Man tag match

THE IRON SAINTS def. THE AERIAL EXPRESS and THE HUMAN TORNADO to win the series (19:25). A better match, but not the best of the series, probably the middle one (behind the AXP vs. Saints tag and Scorpio Sky vs. Sal, but better than Brandon vs. Tornado and Quicksilver vs. Vito). Some really good moments and spots, including some dives to the floor from the SoCal team that really got the crowd into the match. However, the majority of the match was passable, not bad, but not good either, basically nondescript, and a portion of the match about halfway through dragged a fair bit. As for elimination's, The SoCal team got off to a good start, when Scorpio pinned Sal Thomaselli with a pinning combination after about seven minutes. This made the series 2-3, and put the Socal team ahead for the first time in the series. A very short while later however, the SoCal team was brought back down to earth, when Brandon pinned Tornado with a '450 Splash' to tie the series at 3-3, and leaving Brandon and Vito Thomaselli vs. The Aerial Express. Just after the ten minute mark, things went from bad to worse for the SoCal team as Vito rolled Quicksilver up. Vito then held a hand out for Brandon to hold for extra leverage, helping eliminate Quicksilver (4-3). The next part of the match was the part that dragged, as Brandon and Vito wore down Scorpio Sky. It wasn't particularly interesting, and the crowd didn't seem too bothered by any of Scorpio's attempts at getting back into the match. They did however cheer as just over fifteen minutes in, Scorpio hit the 'Fatal Answer' on Brandon, them drop-kicked Vito off the apron so he couldn't interfere, allowing Scorpio to eliminate Brandon, to make the series 4-4, and the next fall would determine which squad won the series! Vito immediately tried to wear down Scorpio, playing off how worn down Scorpio had been earlier, but Scorpio soon fought back, and the pair had a good back and forth match for the final few minutes, which saw both reverse attempts at each others finishing moves, as Vito countered a 'Fatal Answer', and Scorpio ducked a 'Superkick'. In the end, Scorpio went for his 'Awesome Dropkick', but Vito moved out of the way, he went for another 'Superkick', but Scorpio again ducked. Scorpio locked up, as if going for a suplex, but Vito dead-weighted himself so Scorpio couldn't pick him up, then span Scorpio into a 'Sicilian Driver' for the three count! Vito wins the series for his team. The Iron Saints win the series 5-4! A good match in places, particularly the beginning and end, but the middle let the match down.

4) 'The Notorious 187' HOMICIDE def. JOSH DANIELS (13:15). A good match. A competitive squash if that makes sense. Daniels hardly got any offence in for the first few minutes, as Homicide didn't take him seriously, hitting a move, then playing to the crowd. This eventually gave Daniels the chance to try a comeback, but Homicide cut him off, then went bezerk hitting strikes and clotheslines in a fast flurry, and almost ending the match there. Homicide then went to wear Daniels down, and did so for a time, but Daniels finally got a foothold in the match, with a great spot that sure him counter an 'Ace Crusher' by dumping 'Cide over the top rope! Daniels fell to the mat, exhausted, but with time to regain his strength. Homicide barely moved on the floor, just making it under the bottom rope as the referee reached about twelve of his twenty count. From there, Daniels seemed like a changed fighter, and really had a good go at beating Homicide, almost winning the match on many occasions, through roll-ups, some bigger power moves and some holds. The match really evened out, even swung in Daniels favour, and 'Cide realised he'd have to take Daniels more seriously. The match could have gone either way for a while, before it seemed 'Cide finally had the job done. Daniels though had one last little bit of fight in him, almost landing his 'Dragon Suplex' to end the match, before Homicide again unleashed a barrage of punches, then hit the 'Cop Killah' followed by a stiff 'Lariat' for the three. Very good action once Daniels got going, really looked like 'Cide could be in trouble at certain moments.

--- After the match, Charlie Haas came to the ring, and reminded Homicide what he said at the end of 'A Little Respect Weekend' night one, that he was coming for Homicide. He said he was pre-occupied right now with Roderick Strong however, but soon it would be Homicide that had his full attention. Homicide laughed it off saying he's already beaten Haas, so anytime Haas wants his ass kicking again, he knows where to come. Homicide then says he too is pre-occupied right now, he has 'other plans' and 'bigger fish to fry'. Haas looks slightly puzzled at the cryptic clues, before leaving the ring area.

5) JIMMY RAVE and 'Double C' CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI def. JAY LETHAL and MATT SYDAL (15:09) when Rave pinned Lethal. A good tag match, but more a case of the action being solid rather than spectacular. After Sydal and Lethal got off to a strong start, Sydal was isolated by Rave and Double C, as they wore him down and almost had him beat a few times. When Sydal did get a tag, Rave had the referee distracted, so he didn't see the tag, and Sydal was kept in the ring for some under-hand double-teaming. When he did get the tag, Lethal was on fire, repelling any attack Rave and Castagnoli threw at him, and really causing havoc. In the end though, Castagnoli dragged Sydal to the arena floor where they brawled, leaving Rave and Lethal in the ring. Rave waist-locked Lethal, as if going for a German Suplex. Lethal tried to counter by going toward the turnbuckle, but as he got to the corner, Rave shoved Lethal into the turnbuckle, then rolled him up, holding the tights for a win, the second cheap pinfall Rave has on Lethal in APW. Good tag action.

6) MILANO COLLECTION AT def. DANNY DANIELS via DQ (14:41). Decent match, with a lot of technical mat wrestling, mixed with some strikes and kicks from Milano in particular. Milano controlled the match about 60/40, and looked quite aggressive after the actions of Daniels to win their match last month. Milano further pressed home the advantage as the match came to it's end, with a series of unanswered offence, Daniels couldn't get a single move in on Milano, frustrating him greatly. Angered by Milano's unstoppable momentum, Daniels took his chance to give Milano a thumb to the eye to momentarily stop him, then went to the outside. He picked up a chair, and in full view of the referee, cracked it over the head of Milano, giving the referee no choice but to DQ him. The crowd jeered, but this didn't deter Daniels, who proceeded to crack the chair on the back of Milano several times, until Milano was showing no sign of movement. Daniels had a nasty, angry look on his face as he finally stopped the assault, and left for the back. Officials and medics came to the ring to check on Milano, and to help him to the back.

7) DELIRIOUS def. JERRY LYNN (17:03) in the match of the night. After a slow 'feeling-out' process to begin with, this became a thrilling back and forth contest. Both men showed why they are so well regarded – Lynn as one of the most under-used and under-appreciated talents of recent years, and Delirious as one of the most promising young wrestlers in the business. Lynn had slightly more of the offence, but Delirious fought well, and the match was close to an even one. In the end, Lynn was really starting to look the likely winner, dominating more and getting some good momentum going. Out of nowhere, Delirious hit a Flat-liner to stop Lynn's momentum and to buy some time. Both men fell to the mat, and lay as the referee began to count both men out. Delirious was up first, at five, but made the mistake of going to the top rope. By the time he got there, Lynn was on his feet and joined him on the top rope. They fought for power and for position on the top rope, Lynn winning, sending Delirious crashing to the mat. Lynn could not capitalise right away though – the fight had taken some out of him, so he needed a second to regain his composure, and he had to adjust his position to be able to fly off the turnbuckle – so Delirious was back to his feet by the time Lynn was ready. Lynn flew off the top, looking for a cross-body, but Delirious moved out of the way, and Lynn hit the referee! Jerry didn't have long to let this sink in however, as Delirious span him round, and went for the 'Chemical Imbalance', but Lynn dropped down behind his opponent, and went for the 'Cradle Piledriver'. This time it was Delirious who countered, with a knee to the gut. Delirious went for the 'Chemical Imbalance' again, but Lynn again found a counter and this time hit the Cradle Piledriver'! Lynn made the cover, but there was no referee to count the fall. The crowd counted along, 1-2-3-4-5, but the referee still wasn't up yet. There was then a large boo as Alex Shelley came running to the ring. Lynn saw him coming, and prepared to fight Shelley as he slid into the ring. Shelley however had momentum from running on his side, and he slid under an attempted Clothesline from Lynn, then as Lynn turned, Shelley hit the 'Shellshock', before making a hasty retreat from the ring! Delirious soon got to his feet – he hadn't seen a thing! He made a 'confused' grunt as he saw Lynn laying flat-out in the ring, but still picked Lynn up and gave him the 'Chemical Imbalance' as the referee was coming to to pick up a HUGE win. Delirious celebrates his big win in the ring, not noticing Alex Shelley stood at the top of the entrance way, grinning from ear-to-ear.

8) APW Tag Team Championships

THE STRONG BROTHERS def. CHARLIE HAAS and SAMOA JOE to retain (22:36) when Roderick pinned Haas. The prolonged slow building start to the match may not have been to everyone's taste, but when it really got going past the ten minute mark, it became a very solid and enjoyable encounter with some good moments and pieces of action. Joe came in and kicked ass at regular intervals, whilst The Strong's played on a good sense of teamwork. Whenever Haas and Roderick were in the ring with one-another, there was tension, and a sense of one trying to outdo the other, with some stiff moves thrown in. At the end of the match, the referee had somewhat predictably forgotten who the legal man was (or has just given up caring), as Haas was recovering on the apron, Sedrick on the floor, leaving Roderick and Joe in the ring. Roderick whipped Joe off the ropes, and looked ready to give Joe the 'Tilt-a-Whirl Backbreaker' when Joe came back to him. Joe however dodged the move, and carried on running toward the near ropes, then suddenly dived through the top and middle rope to take Sedrick out with the tope! The crowd went nuts for the move, and for a few seconds it was like the match stopped to accommodate the crowd reaction. Strong was looking at the scene of the impact, with a shocked look on his face, when Haas came up behind him and rolled him up, but barely got a two. Back to their feet, Strong gave Haas a traditional backbreaker, for a two count of his own. Strong picked Haas up, but Haas shoved him away. They exchanged a couple of punches and chops before Haas went for a Northern Lights Suplex, but Strong stalled the hold. He tried to land a vertical suplex on Haas, who also countered, this time dropping behind Strong. He waist-locked Strong, and the crowd cheered, expecting Haas usual German Suplex, but Strong performed a go-behind, then turned Haas round into the 'CX03'! 1-2-3! Joe was just desperately trying to get through the ropes to break it up, but was just too late. Roderick celebrates his win on Haas, and then celebrates with Sedrick as he makes his way into the ring to get his belt. The brothers hold their belts aloft for the crowd, then head to the back as Haas begins to get up in the ring.

9) APW Championship

ALEX SHELLEY def. 'Classic' COLT CABANA to retain (19:47). Strangely, Homicide came down to the ring as the opening bell was about to start. He didn't interfere in action at all though, he pulled up a seat at ringside, and seemed to be very interested in proceedings. Had a fairly formulaic format, but was an enjoyable contest. Shelley wore Cabana down for a lot of the match, Cabana having the odd moment of comeback before finally levelling things out for the finish. Some very good wrestling with some great exchanges, and some good moments, like Cabana thinking he had the belt won after hitting the 'Colt 45' only for Shelley to show great resiliency by kicking out before the three, and Cabana surviving for a good few seconds in the 'Border City Stretch' before making the ropes. Shelley actually won the match cleanly, Cabana going to kill the match off with his second 'Colt 45' of the evening, only for Shelley to scramble out of the hold, hit a Brainbuster, then pick Cabana up for the 'Shellshock' for the surprise clean victory. Shelley showed just how good a wrestler he can be, when he isn't cheating or using foul play to win matches and dominate opponents. The live show ends with Shelley being handed his belt and celebrating his win, as Homicide leaves his ringside seat, and watching Shelley celebrate, leaves up the entrance way to the back. Very good match, probably the second best match of the night.

--- On the home release, Colt Cabana does a very brief promo saying he may have lost tonight, but he'll be back around the top of APW soon.

- End Show -

Quick Results:

1)The Ring Crew Express def. The Wildcards (10:34) **1/4

2)Hallowicked def. Salvatore Rinauro (9:36) **1/4

3)The Iron Saints def. The Aerial Express and The Human Tornado (19:25) **3/4

4)Homicide def. Josh Daniels (13:15) ***1/2

5)Jimmy Rave and Claudio Castagnoli def. Jay Lethal and Matt Sydal (15:09) ***1/2

6)Milano Collection AT def. Danny Daniels via DQ (14:41) ***1/4

7)Delirious def. Jerry Lynn (17:03) ****1/4

8)The Strong Brothers def. Charlie Haas and Samoa Joe (22:36) ***1/2

9)Alex Shelley def. Colt Cabana (19:47) ***3/4

Thoughts: A decent to good show. Once past the uninspiring opening duo of matches, and the elimination tag match that has good moments, but on the whole isn't great, you get a solid card. 'Cide vs. Daniels is an entertaining match, that actually makes you think Daniels may win at certain parts. The next two matches - the tag match and Milano vs. Danny Daniels are solid but nothing to write home about. There's a very solid tag team match, that comes as close to being a great match as a match can get without actually being one, its in 'very good mode' the whole way, and an APW Championship match that is on the **** borderline. The only really good match here is Delirious vs. Lynn which provides great non-stop entertainment and is a definate MOTN. Overall a good, but not a great show.

Thanks for the response. :)

News Round-up:

--- APW can announce two shows in August. Firstly, on August 11th, APW will debut in Chicago, Illinois with the 'Second City Invasion'!, Then APW returns to New York City on August 24th to present 'Summer Showdown!'. APW is looking to make the Showdown show an annual marquee event, and wants to promote some great matches on the card. To that end, we can announce the first match for that card – The CHARLIE HAAS vs. RODERICK STRONG 30 Minute Ironman Match will take place at 'Summer Showdown' on August 24th!

Furthermore, as a final act before this huge match, on the August 11th show, Charlie Haas and Roderick Strong will both be allowed to pick each others opponents for the show! This could be a huge decision right before their Ironman match, and could lead to some very interesting matches. Haas and Strong will tell APW of their choices of opponent on the night of the 'On The Rocks' show on July 14th.

--- This news also adds implications to the Tag Team Championship match at 'On The Rocks', as THE STRONG BROTHERS defend against THE IRON SAINTS. Since as their are no tag team title defences scheduled for August, if the Strong's win, they will make it to at least EIGHT months as champions, until a show in September. The Strongs won the belts back in January in a six way elimination match to crown the first ever champions.

--- APW officials have also discussed the idea of a Lightweight Championship belt. Some competitors not yet seen in APW competition have been enquired about appearing in some form of tournament for the belt, and APW officials are discussing what format a tournament for the belt may take. The Lightweight Championship – if it even ever comes into being – could still be many months away.

--- Expect RICKY REYES to come back to APW soon, and he will bring company, in the form of ROCKY ROMERO. The Havana Pitbulls, one of the most successful and well known tag teams in recent indy history will appear on the August 11th show. CHARLIE HAAS is one wrestler to have spoken on the news, believing they are simply coming to APW to give Homicide more protection.

--- In major news for the July 14th 'On The Rocks' Show in Philly, APW has noticed a bulk of APW talent has been having issues with one another recently. We've seen this with the feud growing between MILANO COLLECTION AT and DANNY DANIELS, JAY LETHAL becoming increasingly angry at the way JIMMY RAVE cheats to beat him (Rave has cheated to beat Lethal twice in a row now), and the competition between MATT SYDAL and CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI which started at the 'A Little Respect Weekend' shows. These last two feuds became inter-twined at the 'Unfinished Business' event when Rave and Castagnoli teamed to beat Lethal and Rave. There have been rivalries developing on the under-card too, and APW has decided to put all of these rivals together and let them settle the score amongst themselves, whilst creating an entertaining match-up for the fans. At 'On The Rocks'. Milano, Daniels, Lethal, Rave, Sydal and Castagnoli will be joined by JOSH DANIELS and JAMES KEENAN in a Gauntlet match! We hope this means that once and for all some of the issues between this bunch of competitors are settled.

--- B-BOY will come to APW at 'On The Rocks'. One of HOMICIDE's biggest rivals CHARLIE HAAS feels that B-Boy will just be the latest in a long-line of allies 'The Notorious 187' will have in APW, and that Homicide is just creating a 'gang' to protect himself. Haas looks to take the initiative and put a dent in any such plans by challenging B-Boy to a match at 'On The Rocks'. The challenge has been accepted and the match signed for July 14th!

--- 'On The Rocks' will see the return of SOUTHERN COMFORT, for the first time since loosing that NO DQ tag match to THE RING CREW EXPRESS. APW can announce they will face the AERIAL EXPRESS, them themselves loosing that huge 'Midwest vs. SoCal' Series to the IRON SAINTS, 5-4.

--- THE HAVANA PITBULLS have hit out at CHARLIE HAAS claims they are coming to APW to protect, and form a 'gang' with HOMICIDE. They say they are friends with Homicide, and will have his back if need be but they stress an independence from 'The Notorious 187', saying they are coming to APW of their own accord, to do what they want and to set some goals they have set for themselves, NOT to ally themselves with Homicide. JERRY LYNN, who faces Homicide at 'On The Rocks' in a big grudge match hasn't spoken on the matter, choosing to focus all his energy on preparing for his match with 'Cide.

--- A final match has been added to 'On The Rocks'. HALLOWICKED will look to make it three wins out of three against FAST EDDIE VEGAS.

--- MILANO COLLECTION AT may have to withdraw from the upcoming Gauntlet match at 'On The Rocks'. Milano was badly injured in the attack by DANNY DANIELS at 'Unfinished Business', and may not be fit enough to compete. APW won't know until the night whether or not he will be able to enter the match.

Nice shows man, keep up the good work!

APW - On The Rocks

July 14th 2006

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Final Card:

APW Championship

Alex Shelley © vs. Delirious

Hmmmmm... tough one to call. Logic says Shelley, but you may go for the delirious super-underdog victory thanks to interferance form Lynn and/or Haas. Could be good actually, with Shelley winning it back in a re-match on th next show - maybe in a Cage match.

APW Tag Team Championships

The Strong Brothers (Roderick and Sedrick Strong) © vs. The Iron Saints (Vito and Sal Thomaselli w/Brandon Thomaselli)

Strong Bros - they've got to make the full year as champs. Unles you hire Aries and team him with, say, Sydal. Now that I would mark for, and Aries/Sydal win over the Strongs.

Grudge Match

Jerry Lynn vs. 'The Notorious 187' Homicide

Meh... could go either way. I'm going for Cide after interferance from the Havana dudes.

Gauntlet Match

Confirmed participants: Jay Lethal, Jimmy Rave, Matt Sydal, 'Double C' Claudio Castagnoli, 'Sterling' James Keenan, Josh Daniels, Danny Daniels

Possible participant: Milano Collection AT

Jimmy Rave, cheating to beat Lethal at the end, thus not actually settling their feud.

Charlie Haas vs. B-Boy

Haas.

Hallowicked vs. Fast Eddie Vegas

Wickmeister to keep the streak alive! Hallowicked = Goldberg mk II roflmfao!

Aerial Express (Scorpio Sky/Quicksilver) vs. Southern Comfort (Tracy Smothers/Chris Hamrick)

On The Rocks

July 14th 2006

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

--- As the live show came very close to the usual runtime of two and a half hours, their was only one brief interview on the whole home release. Delirious cut an excited promo, shouting loudly and in a confident, fired up way, ahead of his APW Championship match tonight. BAH!

1) APW Tag Team Championships

THE STRONG BROTHERS def. THE IRON SAINTS to retain (11:32) when Sedrick made Sal tap to the 'Stronghold'. A good match, the latest in a string of good title defences for the Strong Brothers. Followed the traditional tag team format, the heels wearing Sedrick down for a good portion of the match, until the hot-tag to Roderick lead the match to its finish. Once this stage began, bar the odd moment it always looked like the Strong's would retain, The Saints didn't seem to have much answer for their offence. After having taken a combination of Backbreakers from Roderick, Sal had no choice but to tap to the 'Stronghold'. Good match, good opener.

2) HALLOWICKED def. FAST EDDIE VEGAS (10:47) in a solid high-flying affair. The exact kind of match that won't make people rush out and buy the tape, but does make the tape a better one overall, a very decent match, kept to a good pace with some nice dives to the floor and some good exchanges. Hallowicked simply blocks a suplex attempt and hits the 'Monsta Mash' to pick up the three, and to add to his growing winning streak.

3) SOUTHERN COMFORT def. The AERIAL EXPRESS (10:21) when Tracy Smothers pinned Quicksilver. A poor match, the two teams simply didn't work well together, and botched a lot of spots in ten minutes of dull, plodding action. Whilst it wasn't bad per-se, and had one or two decent spots, it was mostly boring, and a contrast of styles. Smothers gets the somewhat shock, clean win with a spinebuster on Quicksilver as Hamrick and Scorpio brawl on the outside.

4) CHARLIE HAAS def. B-BOY (13:35) in a very good match-up. Haas makes B-Boy tap to the 'Haas of Pain'. A very fast paced match-up as they went for lots of quick counters and big moves, with some brawling. Haas dominates the slight majority of the match, but B-Boy gave a good account of himself, and had a little period where he really wore Haas down, but was unable to hit a big move, or string of big moves to put him away. When Haas locked in the 'Haas of Pain' however, B-Boy was in the centre of the ring, and had no choice but to tap out after a few seconds agonising in the hold. Unrelenting action that never let up.

5) MILANO COLLECTION AT returns to win the Gauntlet (54:41). Decent to good action throughout. James Keenan and Josh Daniels start, with some good action. They didn't have long, so rather than a slow build, they went for it right away and it helped set a good tempo for, and get the crowd into the rest of the gauntlet. Daniels pins Keenan with a German Suplex into a bridge just under six minutes in, to end a good sequence of moves. Keenan shouts back at the ring in anger at his elimination as the next entrant, Matt Sydal makes his way to the ring. Sydal and Daniels again went straight for it, but Sydal made short work of Daniels, dominating the very enjoyable section of the match about 70 to 30, and won with the 'Uranage' after about four and a half minutes. The next person in was Claudio Castagnoli, who right away tried to wear Sydal down with rest holds and submissions. This didn't go down very well with a lot of the fans who had seen quick and lively action so far and didn't appreciate the match slowing down, although some fans enjoyed the more scientific style. This was the longest single match-up in the gauntlet, lasting over eleven minutes. After fighting back and getting the match sped up to a pace more suited to him, Sydal almost beat Double C a couple of times, before Double C almost stole the match-up himself with a sudden Small Package, which Sydal only just rolled out of, then as Sydal got top his feet, Castagnoli folded him up with a German Suplex for another two count. Sydal eventually got then win, coming off the top rope with a 'Dragonara' for the three count. Jimmy Rave entered next, and this was the best part of the gauntlet. Now having been in the ring for around fifteen minutes, Sydal wasn't near as fresh as Rave was, a fact Rave used to his advantage, using Castagnoli's tactic of trying to wear Sydal down, only this time with a variety of Suplex's, Back-drops, chops and strikes and other moves, rather than the submission style used by Double C. Rave kept this quite entertaining for around five minutes, before it was time for the Sydal fightback, but this one wasn't as successful. Going for a back-suplex, Rave was able to counter as he was near Sydal's shoulders, and roll down into a pinning combination. Rave then held the middle rope for an unfair advantage to pick up the three! Rave rolled to the floor to avoid an revenge from Sydal, as the next participant entered - Jay Lethal! Rave wasn't in Lethal's good books after cheating to beat him twice on recent shows, and this was obvious in their part of the match as Lethal near totally dominated Rave, but was unable to hit a big enough move to keep Rave down. Rave only got the odd bit of major offence in as Lethal kicked his ass for about ten minutes, when Rave hit a high-angle backdrop to end a string of Lethal lead attack. Rave followed up with a 'Shining Wizard', 1-2-No! Lethal just gets a shoulder up. Rave picked Lethal up, and went for the 'Rave Clash', but Lethal came up with an innovative counters – a Head Scissors. He tried following up with the 'Dragon Suplex', but Rave took advantage of an unsighted referee to use a Low-Blow to escape! Lethal began to sink to the mat, giving Rave chance to hit the 'Rave Clash' and pick up the three! Rave again fled the ring to avoid any repercussions, and as Lethal left in anger, Rave taunted him with '3-0' signs and verbal abuse, highlighting the three cheap wins Rave now has over Lethal in APW.

At this point, an announcement went out that Milano Collection AT was the next entrant, but APW officials still were unsure if he was competing or not due to his injuries sustained at the hands of Danny Daniels last month. They were about to announce the final entrant, in Daniels when Milano made his way to the ring to enter the gauntlet! Rave immediately went to work on Milano, who was visibly favouring his back and could have had Milano beat many times, but The 'Italian' supermodel showed great resiliency. When Milano finally made a comeback in the match, they two exchanged some bigger moves, Milano selling the injury's and Rave's previous offence a lot, before he was able to lock Rave in the 'AT Lock' in the middle of the ring! After a good few seconds trying to escape the painful hold to no avail, Rave had no choice but to tap out! Milano beats Rave in a solid eight or so minutes of action, but sold it like it killed him to do so, with the injuries sustained at the hands of the final participant, Danny Daniels.

This final part of the gauntlet was maybe slightly too long for what it had to accomplish, a good six or seven minutes of Daniels working over Milano with plenty of ground based offence and holds, mixed with the odd high impact move, but Milano again showed plenty of fight and spirit, and wouldn't be beaten. He had a couple of unsuccessful comebacks, Daniels always countering the offence into a hold or a lock to stop Milano gaining any momentum. Finally, after about ten minutes, the match went to a more even finish, as spurred on by the crowd, Milano fought back. Even still, Daniels always looked the stronger in the finishing moments of the match, locking in HOLD. Milano looked ready to tap at any moment, and maybe would have, but he had gained a lot of momentum and fan support, and he had revenge in mind! He hadn't come this far to loose! He made it to the ropes, and the ref gave Daniels a five count to break the hold, which he did. Milano pulled himself up with the ropes, and when Daniels came charging at him from behind, he stuck out an elbow which went right into Daniels' face. Milano followed up with a suplex, and getting what was maybe a final shot of adrenaline, clenched fists and motioned for crowd support. The crowd roared, cheering Milano on. Milano went to pick Daniels up, but Daniels countered, grabbing Milano and spinning him round into the 'Tombstone Piledriver', but Milano wriggled out! Milano went for the 'IR', but Daniels shoved him off against the ropes. When Milano came back, he went for a 'Lariat', but Daniels ducked and span Milano round again looking for a 'Tomstone', but again Milano countered into the 'IR', and landed it! The crowd popped as Milano wearily draped an arm over Daniels as the ref counted the fall, 1-2-3! Milano did it! He overcame injury, came back and won! The crowd cheer, but neither man moves, taking in the abuse of the match. Eventually, slowly but surely, Milano comes to hit feet and salutes the fans. He gingerly climbs out of the ring, where he is met by some referees who help him to the back, Milano turns at intervals to wave to, and celebrate with the crowd. Daniels finally gets up, and stumbles to the back a short while after.

Above average to good action throughout, and after a quiet start, the crowd got into the match as it went on, though maybe they were tired after such a long period of wrestling with no break. The odd portion was too long, but overall some very respectable wrestling throughout.

6) Grudge Match

'The Notorious 187' HOMICIDE and JERRY LYNN went to a Double DQ draw (16:02) as both men used weapons on each other. Crowd hated the result of what had been an entertaining match, the best on the card so far. Pretty soon in the match went from a wrestling contest to a brawl as both men used increasingly stiffer shots on each other, causing the match to degenerate into an increasingly wild brawl. It was a very entertaining brawl, coupled with some good wrestling, but the pair were spending increased time on the outside brawling, whipping each other into the crowd barriers and brawling in the crowd, several times only just beating the referee's twenty count to get back in the ring. In the ring, both men avoided each others finishing moves, countering well to show off both's wrestling skill. Lynn got a couple of near falls, first with a school-boy and another with a Northern Lights Suplex. Homicide almost beat Lynn with an 'Ace Crusher' to end a thrilling sequence of moves that included Lynn ducking a Lariat and Homicide avoiding the 'Cradle Piledriver'. In the end, much to the annoyance of the crowd the match was thrown out after a long time brawling on the arena floor ended with both using simultaneous chair shots on each other, to cause the double DQ. The crowd booed as they continued to exchange stiff blows after the bell, and booed more loudly as B-Boy made his way to the ring to help Homicide. They didn't have long to double team Lynn however, as Charlie Haas made his way to the ring to make the save as officials began to swarm the ring to split the four men up. A very good fight, and the result may not annoy a home release audience as much as it did the live crowd.

7) APW Championship

ALEX SHELLEY and DELIRIOUS went to a double pin draw (20:25) in the match of the night. You can imagine how the live crowd liked two back-to-back draws. Still, the actual match was very good, with some great wrestling exchanges and both showed off their great abilities. The match also told a good story, with Shelley underestimating Delirious, toying with him and mocking him for the first third of the match. Delirious made Shelley take notice though by almost sneaking a win with some quick pin attempts, then by really stepping up his game, countering Shelley's offence, and hitting some big moves of his own, making Shelley take his title challenge very seriously. The match really evened out, and the crowd were treated to a great match featuring two even guys, who countered often and landed some high impact moves so neither man held much in the way of an advantage during the mid to latter stages of the match. Shelley believed he had quashed Delirious's fight when he locked Delirious in the 'Border City Stretch', but Delrious showed great fight and made it to the ropes. As the match wore on, Homicide again came down to the ring area during a Shelley match and took up a seat at the time-keepers table. He almost saw Delirious win, as he hit the 'Shadows Over Hell', but Shelley was able to just kick out at a two and a half count. Shelley thought he had finally put this challenger away with a hard Brainbuster, but Delirious kicked out, prompting Shelley to shout at the referee in anger. For the finish, Shelley began to show some more dominance, but Delirious suddenly hit the 'Chemical Imbalance' out of nowhere! He went for the cover, but Shelley was too near the rope, sticking a foot out to break the hold. Delirious dragged Shelley to the middle of the ring, and picked him up, looking for the move again to end the match, but Shelley countered, and lifted Delirious up for a 'Fishermans Buster'! 1-2-No! Delirious again showed resiliency by not being beaten! Shelley went to pick Delirious off the mat, but Delirious trapped Shelley in a small-package! Shelley however was able to half block the move, meaning Delirious wasn't able to execute the move properly so both mens shoulders were down on the mat! Both struggled to get their shoulders up as the referee counted, 1-2-3! Shelley sat on the mat in jaw-wide shock at the decision, then protested it with the referee. Delirious seemed to be taking in energy after the intense effort of the match. The crowd were a little upset at the draw, but not as much as they were for the Lynn/Homicide draw. Homicide got up and headed for the back, looking at Shelley and shaking his head in disappointment. Shelley watched him leave as he leaned over the top rope still in shock at the result. The crowd jeered as it was announced Shelley retained the belt in the event of a draw. Delirious took some moments to further recover from the match, then got on a turnbuckle and played to the crowd as the show ends.

- End Show -

Quick Results:

1)The Strong Brothers def. The Iron Saints (11:32) ***1/4

2)Hallowicked def. Fast Eddie Vegas (10:47) **3/4

3)Southern Comfort def. The Aerial Express (10:21) **1/4

4)Charlie Haas def. B-Boy (13:35) ***3/4

5)Milano Collection AT def. James Keenan, Josh Daniels, Matt Sydal, Claudio Castagnoli, Jimmy Rave, Jay Lethal and Danny Daniels (54:41) ***1/2 (overall score)

6)Homicide drew with Jerry Lynn (16:02) ***3/4

7)Alex Shelley drew with Delirious (20:25) ****

Thoughts: A good show, but the two draws in the main events could let it down, there are other ways for the feuds to have been progressed. I daresay it won't be such a problem on the home release compared to the live crowd who didn't like it one bit, the two draws just seems weird and maybe points to a lack of imagination in the booking. Still, the wrestling on the card is ace. The 'two draws' matches are both very good, and are around the **** mark, as is the Haas/B-Boy match, and the gauntlet whilst too long for some, is a very good match overall, throw in an enjoyable tag team championship match and you have yourself one hell of a show for wrestling quality, if not one for storylines. The only let downs are the Hallowicked/Vegas match (which isn't bad, just average) and the poor Comfort/AXP match. Still if you can look past the 'two draws' thing, this is a great card for wrestling quality.

--- RODERICK STRONGS' and CHARLIE HAAS' handpicked opponents for each other are in! Haas has made an interesting choice, electing that Strong face the debuting ROCKY ROMERO! This may seem a strange choice at first, but it makes sense if you think about it. Haas believes Romero will associate himself with Haas's rival HOMICIDE, even though Romero denies this. If Strong wins, it will be a huge defeat for any alliance between Homicide and Romero if Romero loses his debut match, and Homicide's potential right-hand man losing could be huge. If Romero wins, then it could be a morale shattering and momentum stopping defeat for Strong as he and Haas head towards the huge 30 minute Iron Man match at 'Summer Showdown'. Whoever loses, Haas wins.

Strong has decided to put his faith in family, and has selected brother SEDRICK STRONG as Haas's opponent. He believes Sedrick will be a big test, and an idea f what's to come for Haas.

--- We said how CHARLIE HAAS selected ROCKY ROMERO as RODERICK STRONG'S opponent for 'Second City Invasion'. Well Haas initially asked for 'The Notorious 187' HOMICIDE to be Strong's opponent, for similar reasons to why he picked Romero. APW officials had to inform Haas that Homicide was unavailable however as officials have decided on a main event for the 'Second City Invasion' and Homicide is involved! Management had hoped that the outcomes of Homicide vs. Lynn and Shelley vs. Delirious would make the decision of what the main event was going to be, but both matches ended in draws. After reviewing this, APW have decided the main event will be a four-corners match featuring Homicide, ALEX SHELLEY, JERRY LYNN, DELIRIOUS and it will be for the APW Championship! Shelley is the reigning champion, and his feud with Lynn has been at the forefront of APW shows recently. Delirious holds a very impressive win/loss record, including a win over Lynn (thanks to Shelley) and took the champ to a draw last month, meaning Shelley did not beat him to keep his championship. Homicide has an impressive pedigree, and as been coming to ringside during Alex Shelley's matches recently. There seemed no other way of sorting the situation out than to make a four-corners match.

In fairness however, Alex Shelley will be granted Championship advantage in the match. IE Alex Shelley has to be pinned or submitted to lose the Championship. The match will also determine the main event of 'Summer Showdown'. This basically means:

- Shelley has to be beaten to lose the Championship.

- If someone does beat Shelley, they are the new APW Champion. Shelley gets a re-match at 'Summer Showdown'

- If Alex Shelley wins the match, he retains his title, and there is no clear No. 1 contender heading into 'Summer Showdown'

- If Lynn, Homicide or Delirious beat each other, then the winner is the number one contender, and faces Shelley for the Championship at 'Summer Showdown'.

This is going to be a HUGE match with potential ramifications to run for months, but which wrestler will triumph?

--- JAY LETHAL has requested another match with JIMMY RAVE. Rave holds three cheap victories over Lethal, who has yet to beat Rave in an APW ring. The match will happen at 'Second City Invasion'. Rave says the match is pointless and unfair, as he feels he has proven his superiority over Lethal by beating his three successive times.

--- JOSH DANIELS and JAMES KEENAN will meet at 'Second City Invasion'. Much to the anger of Keenan, Daniels eliminated him from the Gauntlet match at 'On The Rocks' and has requested a chance to get some payback.

--- The final matches in the feuds between CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI and MATT SYDAL and DANNY DANIELS and MILANO COLLECTION AT have been signed for 'Summer Showdown'. Castagnoli and Sydal first clashed at the first night of the 'A Little Respect' weekend, and Daniels and Milano's feud stretches back further to the first ever 'Extreme Warfare' match at 'Ill Feelings' in April. In the meantime, the matches are swapped at 'Second City Invasion' as Castagnoli takes on Milano, and Sydal clashes with Daniels!

--- Two teams that need a win will clash at 'Second City Invasion'. THE WILDCARDS haven't won a match in APW yet, and their frustrations showed as the beat down THE RING CREW EXPRESS after defeat at 'Unfinished Business' in June. They will face THE AERIAL EXPRESS who after narrowly losing the 'Midwest vs. SoCal' series 5-4 to the IRON SAINTS at 'Unfinished Business', lost to SOUTHERN COMFORT last time out. Both teams need a win, and neither can really afford a defeat.

--- Also at 'Second City Invasion', HALLOWICKED will look to keep his win streak alive by facing off with BRANDON THOMASELLI. What part, if any will Brandon's brothers, VITO and SAL play in the match?

--- A final match has been added to the large card for 'The Second City Invasion'. With ROCKY ROMERO in action, the Havana Pitbulls won't be able to compete as a team at the show, so RICKY REYES has asked for any one-on-one match. Looking to give fans some great wrestling, APW have booked Reyes against the returning 'Classic' COLT CABANA, last seen in a losing effort to ALEX SHELLEY in June. There has been no word from either competitor as yet

Second City Invasion

August 11th 2006

Chicago, Illinois

--- For the home release DVD, Alex Shelley does a brief promo on tonight's four-way, saying whatever happens, he's not losing his Championship belt tonight. Charlie Haas talks about his feud with Roderick Strong tonight, and how he's going to beat Sedrick to send a message to Roderick Strong about what to expect in the upcoming Ironman match.

1) THE AERIAL EXPRESS def. THE WILDCARDS (10:24) in fairly poor match. The match never really got going and was filled with a lot of un-inspiring action. The Wildcards wore Quicksilver down for quite a while, looking to get their first win in APW, but it was to no avail, as in the end Quicksilver pinned Marciano after the 'Silver Slice'. After the match, The Wildcards let their frustrations get the better of them, attacking the Aerial Express in revenge. Dunn and Marcos, looking to get their own back for a similar attack last month ran in to make the save.

2) JOSH DANIELS def. 'Sterling' JAMES KEENAN (11:12) in a good technical, mat based match. Some really good wrestling and a quick pace kept the crowd interested in the match. Daniels gets the pin, bridging a German Suplex to get the fall.

3) HALLOWICKED def. BRANDON THOMASELLI w/Vito and Sal Thomaselli with the 'Monsta Mash' (9:17) in a good high-flyer. A good cruiserweight style match, with some decent technical wrestling thrown in (mostly from Brandon). Hallowicked keeps his winning streak alive, hitting a top-rope cross-body before hoisting Brandon up for his finisher and the three-count. After, Hallowicked makes a hasty retreat as the Iron Saints slide into the ring, looking like they were about to attack Hallowicked.

4) 'Double C' CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI def. MILANO COLLECTION AT (14:51) after interference from Danny Daniels. A solid technical based match with a reasonable portion of mat based action, but not an encounter that's going to set the world alight. Didn't add anything memorable to the show. Predictable match formula saw Castagnoli wear Milano down until the big comeback. During his fightback, Milano accidentally took out the referee with a drop-kick that Castagnoli side-stepped, and as it looked like he had the match won, Danny Daniels ran down and gave an unsuspecting Milano the 'Tombstone Piledriver'! The referee awoke in time to see Castagnoli drape an arm across Milano and count the fall. The Crowd booed at the cheap end to the match, as Double C got to his feet and cheered his victory.

5) DANNY DANIELS def. MATT SYDAL (14:03). A very good encounter with some great wrestling sequences mixed with some high flying spots from Sydal. As good as the match was, it ultimately contained nothing particularly memorable or special, except for a corkscrew moonsault from Sydal to the floor that was timed just right and caught Daniels perfectly, as well as looking amazing! The match ended when Sydal climbed the top rope, but Daniels kicked the referee into the ropes, meaning Sydal lost his footing. Daniels climbed up top, and brought Sydal down with a super-plex, before following up with a 'Tombstone Piledriver' for the win. Afterwards, Milano Collection AT ran in, and attacked Daniels in revenge for Daniels costing Milano the earlier match. The pair brawled for a while, with Milano having the upper hand and they continued to brawl through the crowd and out of sight, the crowd really getting behind Milano to cheer him on.

6) 'Classic' COLT CABANA def. RICKY REYES w/Rocky Romero (15:39) in a very good match. Had it not been for the main event, this would have been the match of the night. Excellent pro wrestling with some good technical skill thrown in and some stiff kicks from Reyes. Neither man had much advantage over the other for long, as both put on a real 'back-and-forth' match-up that could have gone either way at any time. Some of the kicks from Reyes added a cutting edge to the traditional pro-wrestling style of the match and coupled with a quick pace made the match very engaging throughout. The only time one held a pro-longed advantage over the other was when Romero at ringside distracted Cabana, allowing Reyes to take control for a few minutes with some stiff kicks and chops, then with some submission holds. Cabana soon got back into the action though, and resisted further attempts at being distracted by Romero. The match became the back-and-forth match-up it had been before, and after a quarter hour of very good wrestling, Cabana was able to hit his 'Colt 45' finisher for the win. Cabana celebrated his win, posing to the crowd as Romero slid in to bring Reyes round. Then, in a really random moment, Romero threw salt into the eyes of Cabana! The temporarily blinded Cabana stumbled round holding his eyes and shouting at the stinging pain before the Pitbulls took him to the mat and stomped all over him! The Pitbulls finally left to some boo's as Cabana was helped up by some referee's. Cabana, obviously still in pain, was holding his eyes which were now flooded with water and had to be helped to the back due to his restricted vision. A very good match and a nice, if random way of continuing a feud.

7) JAY LETHAL def. JIMMY RAVE (14:48) in a decent to good match. Nothing too different to the pairs previous few matches. This meant solid action with some good high-spots. Match just lacked any originality, but that could be the result of booking two workers against each other often. Rave started the match in a very cocky manner, making numerous 'three-nil' gestures to Lethal. This ultimately only made Lethal angry, and he soon took control of the match, matching Rave wether the match was a basic pro-wrestling contest, a mat based encounter, or one with a lot of punches and chops, whatever Rave tried changing the style too, Lethal matched him, giving Rave only fleeting moments of control. At one point Lethal was so in control, he landed several big moves in a row with little response. He ended by going up top and landing a diving head-butt only for Rave to get a shoulder up. Rave tried cheating to win again, at one point rolling Lethal up and holding the tights. The crowd booed, expecting yet another cheap victory, but Lethal kicked out at two. Still looking to cheat Rave took advantage a couple of minutes later when he shoved Lethal into the ref, knocking the referee out. He went to the outside and got a chair, and everyone was waiting for the Rave to steal another win off Lethal, the crowd booing more for the predictable nature of the match than for the actions of Rave. They soon cheered, partly with surprise however, because as Lethal staggered to his feet, Rave swung the chair, only for Lethal to duck the shot! He gave the stunned Rave a drop-kick, forcing Rave to drop the chair as he fell. Rave got to his feet instantly, but was prone to a 'Dragon Suplex' as the referee got up for the win! Lethal finally pins Rave!

Lethal's celebrations were short-lived however, as he turned him back on Rave to celebrate to the crowd. Rave snuck up on Lethal and clubbed his back, bending Lethal over. Rave followed up with some more clubs to the back to send Lethal to the mat, then followed up by stomping Lethal over and over again to a chorus of boo's from the crowd. Soon Lethal was offering little fight, and Rave dragged him into the centre of the ring, and gave him the 'Rave Clash' onto the steel chair! Lethal was out cold as Rave smirked, happy with his work. He raised his arms in a mock celebration to louder still boo's from the crowd. He took one last look at the down and out Lethal, allowed the sick grin to cross his face again, then left the ring. Lethal was still not showing any signs of life as officials came down to check on him.

8) CHARLIE HAAS def. SEDRICK STRONG (13:21). Good match. Haas was dominant, and looked really good heading into the Ironman man match in two weeks time. Sedrick got some good offence in too, the highlight being locking the 'Strong Hold' in and having Haas squirm in agony in the hold for a few seconds before making the ropes. Towards the end, it looked like he might just sneak it, firstly rolling Haas into a 'Small Package' for a two count, then pinning Haas with a 'Backslide' pin that went to a 2.9 count. In the end though, Haas' control of the match pain off, as he hit his German Suplex, but rather than bridging for a pinfall, he released Strong, then locked in the 'Haas of Pain'. After taking quite a bit of punishment and with nowhere to go, Sedrick had no choice but to tap out to the hold! Haas looks impressive going into his big match with Sedrick's brother in a very enjoyable showing.

9) 'The Messiah of the Backbreaker' RODERICK STRONG def. ROCKY ROMERO w/ Ricky Reyes (16:42) in a very good match. An entertaining pro-wrestling match that kept the fans guessing who would win until the end. Romero appeared to be an inspired choice of opponent by Charlie Haas as he really took the match to Strong for several minutes, after weakening his opponent, he chose to work over the legs of Strong, and had him in several leg based holds and locks that could have brought victory against another opponent. Eventually, Strong fought back, lighting up the chest of Romero with some hard chops. Limping heavily on his left leg, he managed to hit a couple of clotheslines, but without the ability to gain any real speed, they lacked the impact they otherwise might. After the match briefly swung back into the favour of Romero, Strong found his way again, hitting a traditional backbreaker to stop Romero gaining any real momentum. Fired up, he hit another, then a Pump-handle variant of the move, followed by a half-nelson backbreaker. He went for a cover, but Romero got his shoulder up at two. As he rolled his body to kick out however, Strong grabbed a leg, and manoeuvred into position for the 'Strong Hold'! The crowd were split between seeing Strong win, or seeing the good match continue, so there was a duelling 'Please don't tap/Tap!' chant. Somehow, Romero was able to twist in the hold, and twisted right round onto his side to mostly escape the hold. He grabbed the injured leg of Strong, and brought Strong down to the mat an into a leg submission, with a grapevine not too dis-similar in appearance to the ankle-lock. Strong writhed in the hold, and looked ready to tap out at any moment, particularly as Romero was able to shuffle his body to drag them further into the middle of the ring. Eventually, after much agonising, Strong was able to crawl to the bottom rope to break the hold. Obviously in a lot of pain from his leg, he staggered to his feet, and Romero charged, only for Strong to counter with a shoulder-toss, sending Romero crashing to the arena floor! Strong fell to the mat, needing time to recover as the referee began to count both men out, Strong on the mat, and Romero for being on the outside. Slowly, at nine, Strong got used the ropes to get himself up as Romero slid back into the ring. Strong wasn't even putting his leg down as Romero went for him again, only for Strong to trap him in a 'Small Package' attempt. Everyone thought that was it, but Romero barely escaped, getting out of the pinning predicament just before the three. Both men got to their feet, only for Romero to walk into the 'CX03'! Strong fell to the mat, and the referee counted the fall, 1-2-3! For a while after, Romero didn't move, whilst Strong rolled on the mat, holding his leg. Eventually, aided by the referee, he got up, but was still very reluctant to out his left leg down. He hobbled and hopped to the back, raising an arm at one stage to acknowledge his win as Romero slowly came about in the ring. Very good action.

10) APW Championship

JERRY LYNN def. DELIRIOUS, ALEX SHELLEY and 'The Notorious 187' HOMICIDE (24:40). Due to the stipulations of the match, Shelley retains the belt, whilst Jerry Lynn is the number one contender to the APW Championship, and will face Shelley for the title at 'Summer Showdown'. Great match, the match of the night. Non-stop, no let-up action for almost twenty-five minutes. At first Lynn, Delirious and Homicide all went for Shelley to try and pin the champion to win the title. Shelley often ducking out of the ring, tagging out quickly after tagging in and generally avoiding action much to the annoyance of the crowd. As the match wore on, they became less concerned with beating Shelley, and more concerned with simply winning the match to earn a title shot another day. The fans were treated to a lot of thrilling sequences, counters and signature moves, as everyone hit their biggest moves for plenty of near falls, denied victory only by last second saves and by their opponent somehow getting a shoulder up. Homicide got two near falls with both the 'Cop Killah' and a stiff Lariat, Lynn almost pinned Homicide with a 'Cradle Piledriver', Delirious hit a 'Chemical Imbalance' at one stage, and then hit the 'Panic Attack' on Shelley, went right up to the top rope, and hit the 'Shadows over Hell'. Everyone thought Delirious was the new APW Champion, and the crowd were cheering for the title change only for Lynn to appear from nowhere to break the count at two. After exchanging a couple of counters, Shelley hit Lynn with the 'Shellshock', but the former APW Champion showed great resiliency by kicking out at 2.999.

Whilst he may have appeared to be the weakest competitor in the match, Delirious was actually the most impressive, getting a lot of near falls and really raising his game tonight. He also survived quite a while in Shelley's 'Border City Stretch', refusing to give up on this title opportunity. Later in the match, he almost snuck a pinfall on Lynn with a sunset flip roll-up, and almost pinned Homicide with a quick school-boy. He also hit some other impressive moves and dives to the delight of the crowd. At one point, Lynn and Homicide were exchanging stiff blows on the outside, and he separated them with a suicide dive.

The twenty-five minutes of non-stop action finally came.... to... a....stop..... as Delirious and Lynn fought in ring. Delirious hit his 'Chemical Imbalance' finisher and went for a cover, but didn't see Homicide in the ring who broke the fall up. 'Cide clubbed the back of Delirious a few times, then picked him up. Homicide ran against the ropes, and hit Delirious with a very stiff lariat that echoed round the building. This was surely game over, 1-2-No! Shelley appeared out of nowhere to break the fall. He went to pick Homicide up, and whipped him across the ring. He obviously expected 'Cide to come back, but Homicide grabbed the top rope to stop himself. Shelley charged across the ring towards him, but Homicide pulled the top rope down, sending Shelley crashing over it to the arena floor. Homicide watched Shelley scramble to his feet, then he ran off the opposite ropes to gain some momentum and dives to the floor with a very impressive Tope Con Hilo taking both men out! This left Delirious and Lynn in the ring, who were both staggering to their feet. They exchanged shots, then both dead weighted themselves to counter each others suplex attempts. Delirious then went behind Lynn, looking for the 'Chemical Imbalance' again, but Lynn responded with elbows to the temple of Delirious. He gave Delirious a knee to the gut and went for the 'Cradle Piledriver', but Delirious squirmed out. He locked Lynn's head as if going for a DDT, but Lynn blocked that and scooped Delirious up into the 'Cradle Piledriver'! 1-2-3! Homicide tried a last gasp lunge to break the fall, but was too late, Lynn wins this insanely fast and furious match!

Delirious stays down, and Homicide, just a split-second too late in breaking up the fall drops his head and arms to join his body on the canvas, in total exhaustion. Jerry Lynn celebrates his win which means he faces Shelley for the title at 'Summer Showdown'. From behind him though he doesn't see Shelley pick the belt up and go into the ring, looking to hit Lynn with the Championship belt. Lynn however is by now used to this tactic from the Champion, and swings round just in time to duck the shot! As Shelley swings back round, Lynn kicks him in the gut and grabs the belt. Lynn then hits Shelley with the APW Championship belt! The crowd cheer loudly as Shelley falls to the floor and rolls out of the ring. Lynn celebrates further now, belt in hand. Eventually, he puts the belt down and turns toward the ramp. He sees Shelley getting to his feet after the belt shot, and through Shelley holding his head and wincing in pain, the pair lock eyes. Still holding his head, you can see Shelley say 'Son of a bitch' before the camera takes us back to Lynn in the ring. He points towards Shelley now, saying that he is coming right for the champion, and in just two weeks the belt will be his again! The crowd cheer louder still and he gestures to his waist and makes the 'title belt' motion as the live show comes to an end.

--- There is one segment at the end of the home release. Jimmy Rave begins talking about his series of matches with Jay Lethal and how he has proven he is the better man with three victories over Lethal and the way in which he 'totally destroyed' Lethal tonight. He doesn't get to say much more however, as Jay Lethal appears out of nowhere and attacks Rave, delivering several punches to the head. Lethal takes advantage of this surprise ambush by beating Rave down a bit more, before Rave fires back with punches of his own as the punches thrown become more and more wild. They are shot-for-shot now, before Lethal gets his head under Rave's shoulder, and rams him back against the wall. He can only get a few more shots in though, before Rave again fights back, and sends Lethal flying into a steel shutter door. Lethal arches his back after the obviously loud and painful impact, and Rave takes a few second to regain his composure a bit. He walks up to Lethal and delivers some hard shots to the head, sending Lethal slowly sliding down the steel door until he is basically sat against it. He only gets one more punch though before Lethal grabs a leg of Rave's and sends him backwards to the floor with a single-leg takedown. He gets on-top of Rave and punches away, right into Rave's face as officials finally come and drag the two apart. Both unsuccessfully try a few times to break free of the officials and attack the other, but the swarm of people trying to separate them do their job and pull and drag them in opposite directions as the tape fades to black.

Thoughts: A good all-round show. The main event is really thrilling, and delivers as a big, important match. All four really go for it for nearly twenty-five minutes and never let up. All four look good too, no-one is made to look weak. Apart from the poor opener, the rest of the card works too. Daniels and Keenan, and Hallowicked and Brandon Thomaselli bring some of their best APW performances, and the result is two good lower-card matches that add depth to the show as a whole. The matches involving Castagnoli, Milano, Rave and Lethal are al solid encounters, and Haas vs. Sedrick is good for what it is. There are three other matches of note though, firstly Danny Daniels and Matt Sydal put on a great match for the midcard, and are followed by a first-class performance from Colt Cabana and Ricky Reyes. Strong and Romero tell a good story and there is plenty of drama in their match, and the actual action holds its own against anything else on the card as they turn in a good display. Overall it's a show where nearly everyone brings their A game and the result is a great all-round show, also giving some feuds a lot of momentum heading into 'Summer Showdown'.

News Update: Summer Showdown

--- APW will return on September 15th from Edison, New Jersey.

--- As for Summer Showdown both JERRY LYNN and ALEX SHELLEY are deep into training ahead of the APW Championship match. There is a lot of bad blood between the pair and it all comes to a head on August 25th in NYC.

--- JAY LETHAL vs. JIMMY RAVE has been added to Summer Showdown, but with a stipulation. This feud ending match will be a Streetfight! Rave infuriated Lethal by getting three cheap wins in a row over Lethal. After Lethal finally beat Rave at Second City Invasion, Rave attacked Lethal, giving him the 'Rave Clash' onto a chair. Lethal requested one more match to gain some retribution for the attack. Rave says this is unfair as he has already beaten Lethal three times, and says Lethal's win was a fluke.

--- APW looks to make Summer Showdown an annual marquee event, and one of the biggest matches at this years show may just help to do this. CHARLIE HAAS and RODERICK STRONG finally collide in a 30 minute Ironman match! This professional rivalry goes right back to the start of APW in January where Haas pinned Strong. From then on, Strong tried his best to beat Haas but came up short on a few occasions. Strong finally got a fall on Haas back at Unfinished Business in June. Will Haas do what he says and prove once and for all he is better than Strong? Or will Strong beat one of the top indy stars around today? Find out at Summer Showdown!

--- A four-corner tag match has been added to Summer Showdown. THE WILDCARDS still looking for their first win, need to get a win soon, and they will be in action along with THE RING CREW EXPRESS who have had issues with The Wildcards in recent weeks. THE AERIAL EXPRESS will also be part of the mayhem, they beat the Wildcards at Second City Invasion, but got a beat-down for their troubles. Finally, SOUTHERN COMFORT pulled off a shock at On The Rocks in July by beating the Aerial Express, and the Aerial Express will be keen to get even. With some interchanging rivalries and four big teams in the match this could also play some part in who is in contention for a shot at the APW tag team Championships.

--- Speaking of the Championships, one half of the champions SEDRICK STRONG is without a match at Summer Showdown due to his brothers match with CHARLIE HAAS. DELIRIOUS is also without a match, and not wanting two of its most recognisable stars to be without a match at the biggest show of the year so far, APW officials put them against each other! Unlike his brother, Sedrick hasn't fared well in singles action, not winning at all. Can he break his duck and beat the bizarre one?

--- Following the strange attack on COLT CABANA by THE HAVANA PITBULLS at the Second City Invasion, APW has given Cabana the chance to settle his differences with the pair in a tag team match at Summer Showdown. Cabana has picked his partner, the returning SAMOA JOE! Joe hasn't been seen much in recent months, and you have to believe he is returning more fired up then ever to deliver an ass-kicking to who ever needs one. This is sure to be a great tag team match.

--- As for the PITBULLS, are they to be joined by a new partner? They say they are looking for others to join their 'pack' and hope to find someone soon. This is all APW knows at this time.

--- After loosing a lot at first, one APW star to have turned the corner is HALLOWICKED, who is racking up a string of impressive wins. However, this all may have been in vain. APW is constantly looking to update its roster and keep things fresh, and there are a couple of wrestlers who have struggled to make a lot of impact in the company. As such, APW have added a three-way to Summer Showdown, with a special stipulation: The loser of the fall is fired! Can Hallowicked keep his win streak alive when he needs too most? Find out as he battles SALVATORE RINAURO and FAST EDDIE VEGAS, two people he's beaten on recent shows.

--- Two other feuds come to a head at Summer Showdown, as the previously announced matches of DANNY DANIELS vs. MILANO COLLECTION AT and MATT SYDAL vs. CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI matches take place. Daniels and Milano have had quite the rivalry in recent months, whilst Sydal and Double C are 1-1 in APW singles action, though Sydal also pinned Castagnoli in the gauntlet at On The Rocks in July.

--- Bad news heading into Summer Showdown, CHRIS HAMRICK has picked up a leg injury that will keep him sidelined until November. Southern Comfort have been withdrawn from the four way tag team match, and will now just be a triangle tag team match.

--- Other little pieces of news for the September show on the 15th from Edison, New Jersey. Two matches have been signed. Firstly, JAMES KEENAN will battle JOSH DANIELS, who has pinned Keenan twice recently. Keenan asked for this match, saying his is better than Daniels, and that Daniels has just been lucky. The other match to be added will see the continuation of the HOMICIDE/CHARLIE HAAS feud as the pair go head-to-head. This began back at the A Little Respect Weekend when Homicide cheated to win his 'Indy Dream Match' against Haas. The other thing to say about the show is it will feature the APW debut of EL GENERICO! With a rumoured Lightweight Championship tournament coming soon, Generico may well be making his debut at the right time.
