AFI's Top Ten Films of the Year

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brokeback Mountain

Capote

Crash

The 40-Year-Old Virgin

Good Night and Good Luck

A History of Violence

King Kong

Munich

The Squid and the Whale

Syriana

Well, what do you guys think?

I'm pleasantly surprised that the 4O YOV made it in the list, but it was a great comedy, haven' seen Munich, Kong, or Brokeback Mountain yet, but they are definently on my must-see list.

Rule of thumb Livid - a lot of the big movie companies release their critically acclaimed movies in December because they will be fresh in the minds of people when Grammy Nominations and Awards come about.

Its amazing how better this boards taste in movies are then that of IGN's message board. Please can someone tell me how Sin City deserves to be in the top 10? What film should it replace? King Kong? Munich? BrokeBack Mountain? Anyway, I'm glad that I'm not the only one who thinks this is a good(but not perfect) list of the top films of 2005, and I reccommend you guys to see any one of those films mentioned above.

I've seen two movies on there and both surprise me.

40-Year-old virgin because it doesn't seem to fit with the rest.

I also saw Crash. I really didn't like it. For as much hype as it received, I guess it never really moved me like I felt it shoulda. The ending was lame too.

I really liked Crash, personally, and I think its placement is justified, as is Good Night and Good Luck's.

I DO think Batman Begins should be on this list, but what're you gonna do? Opinions are opinions and I will admit that I haven't seen a lot of the movies listed.

Grammy nominations? Why do movie companies care about grammy nominations? I don't think most MUSIC companies care about grammy nominations.

King Kong was pretty mindless, I thought, but it looks to be alone on the "obligatory bad movie on a good list" category.

Of the movies I've seen, only Sin City really stands out at me as conspicuously absent from the list, so. They did okay.

Biggzay's Top 10 (Obviously I haven't seen Brokeback Mountain, Memoirs of a Geisha, King Kong, etc. for they aren't released nationally yet, and still may not even come to my town, KK will though.)

Sin City, Batman Begins, Star Wars: Episode III, Chronicles of Naria: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe would probably be in my current top ten, with Star Wars being knocked out if some of these other movies are really good.

I noticed like the rest that the majority of these are just now coming out, and like 40 year old virgin is coming to DVD tomorrow... so I ask this question...

Do you think the AFI is just simply trying to entice people to go to these movies, or buy the new DVD releases?

It has been noted all year that theatre's have been declining outside of the major blockbusters (Harry Potter, Star Wars, Disney, King Kong).

The only movie out of that list I've seen so far is Crash, which I really enjoyed. The only others that I will be seeing is King Kong and Syriana. None of the others look interesting at all to say the least. Its strange how Serenity and Sin City didn't make the list, they defentally would have been in my top ten.

Empire's had both Dig! and Hotel Rwanda, so I may be inclined to agree with that one. Hotel Rwanda should've been higher, though, it's one of the best films I've seen in a long time.
