Breakthrough bands for 2007

Has to be The View and Jamie T for me. Just has to be.

Both of their albums have been leaked, even though they're not scheduled for release till 2007, and they both are superb stuff. There will be comparison's to The Libertines, Arctic Monkeys, and The Streets respectively but for me these two acts are out on their own and should be the stars of 2007!

The Human Abstract will continue to gain steam, as they have a very marketable sound to them. If you haven't heard of them, they sound a lot like Between the Buried and Me but with cleaner vocals (well more of it at least). I can see them becoming really big in 2007.

If they release their new album this year, 10 Years will launch into the upper echelon of mainstream hard rock bands.

I also believe that Drowning Pool will return in popularity similar to their first album. Gong Jones wasn't that great of a frontman, whereas Ryan McCombs is leaps ahead of him and will help bring the band back from obscurity.

All That Remains will continue to grow in popularity and will become the front runners for "metalcore" (even though they're probably more talented than any other metalcore band not named Unearth).

I'm also looking forward to seeing what Hellyeah ( Chad Gray (MUDVAYNE) - Vocals, Greg Tribbett (MUDVAYNE) - Guitar, Tom Maxwell (NOTHINGFACE) - Guitar, Jerry Montano (DANZIG, NOTHINGFACE) - Bass, Vinnie Paul Abbott (PANTERA, DAMAGEPLAN) - Drums) has in store for 2007 even if the name sucks.

Oh and I almost forgot the band Nine Times Bodyweight. It's basically just the band Memento re-named and with a new drummer. They'll become popular this year too.

I'd say we called some pretty good ones last year, +44, P!ATD, etc. For next year I'll call Jack's Mannequin/Something Corporate. I'm not sure which one he's working on but I'm positive that one of them will get big in 07. Bayside has a cd coming out in February, but I don't know how big it will get them, hopefully it will at least give them a bit of mainstream exposure. Hopefully bands like Motion City Soundtrack will get it to, because I love them with a passion.

I got 5 out of 7 'right' last year, so lets see...

Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. will become bigger.

Arcade Fire will become THE Indie band.

Radiohead will finally release something, and it'll be awesome.

The Mars Volta will release another album. It'll be worse than Amputechture. :shifty:

Sway'll get a bigger following.

!!! will begin to get a bigger following using the foundations laid during their RHCP support slots, and their new album.

Lets see in twelve months how much I screwed that up >_>

I think Saul Williams may gain a lot of fans with the Trent Reznor produced CD.

The Shins will probably also gain a huge mound of fans in the pop music world (even more than Garden State gave them), when their latest debuts.

Oh, and if there's a fine commercial tune done by Damon Albarn and Dangermouse's project (I forget the name), they'll be Gorillaz and Gnarls Barkley huge.

I suppose my last prediction is that Auf der Maur will become much more notable when her newest comes out in 2007.

EDIT: If anyone's been paying attention to MTV2's stuff on bands to watch in 2007, I suppose pay attention to Shiny Toy Guns. Oh, and I'm sure the Fall Out Boy label (Decaydance) will release another band annoyingly massively successful this year, too.

The Arcade Fire will become a hell of a lot more popular when their new album launches, and it'll be even better than Funeral.

The View will be this years Arctic Monkeys. An awesome album ready for 'official' launch and stellar live performers make them a near certain hit.

All That Remains will become huge and gain a lot of new fans.

The Dykeenies will have a great year, gain new fans and actually launch an album.

Pelican better become larger than the gods themselves after their new album and DVD. At least, that is what I hope.

But with the critical acclaim that Mastodon received with "Blood Mountain" even from non-metal press, I am quite certain that Pelican or one of their ilk will garner some larger press this coming year.

On second thought, it's a damn shame that such an awesome lyrics as "we can breathe in space, they just don't want us to escape" is wasted on a band like Enter Shikari. It would be so much more fitting to a 70's style psychadelic rock band in the vein of David Bowie.

This year I'll go with Enter Shikari again. JME, Roll Deep and Bashy are likely to get much, much bigger. Sway probably will as well, given that he's done tracks with Lupe Fiasco and Chamillionare. Wish he wouldn't pander so much to an American market though. The Klaxons will probably become huge as well, but I'm not really a fan.
