Speaking as someone who has ALWAYS been "take it or leave it" on the Pumpkins, ESPECIALLY songs like "Tarantula"... this is actually pretty good, wow. It feels a little... cluttered in ways but all in all I greatly enjoyed it, far more than I was expecting.

Concerning the album artwork:

On May 16, 2007 band's official website published an official album cover made by Obey Giant graphic designer and illustrator Shepard Fairey: a red, black and white illustration of a drowning Statue of Liberty, positioned in front of the sun that is setting/rising. Shepard Fairey, whose credits include creating anti-war posters and the poster art for the feature film Walk the Line, commented on the album cover:

“I think global warming is an issue that is currently relevant, time sensitive, and a symptom of the shortsightedness of the U.S. As a broader metaphor, the drowning Statue of Liberty, a revered icon of the U.S., symbolizes the eminent demise of many of the ideals upon which the nation was founded. Civil liberties, freedom of speech, privacy, etc. have been decreasing since 9/11. The sun in the image could either be setting or rising and this ambiguity shows that there is still hope to turn things around... The U.S. is the dominant global force. When things are going wrong in the U.S. they are probably going wrong around the world. I think this image conveys both the U.S. situation and its larger global implications. ”

Billy Corgan also commented:

“Like a great artist can do, Shepard had summed up very simply a lot of complex themes. He also used the type font from our very first single, and I asked him about it and he had no idea. He was just on point."

The song is available on iTunes now which means it's "available" everywhere else as well. The vocal mix is a lot more clear and it doesn't sound so over-modulated on the actual single as opposed to the stream that was posted earlier.

The first clips of the Paris show have started to leak all over YouTube. There's even a clip put together on the Pumpkins myspace page that goes along with Zeitgeist. Along with these clips being seen, the band line-up has been officially confirmed as: Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlain, Jeff Schroeder (on guitar) and Ginger Reyes (on bass).

OK, the Rock am Ring boot may be my favourite of all time. If 'Gossamer' doesn't get some kind of proper release, it's criminal.

Speaking of which, anyone have any idea who the hippy-looking guy on guitar during 'Gossamer' is? I have a feeling I should really know, but my visual memory bites :shifty:

Ulrich Roth, apparently.

EDIT: Or Rudolph Schenker from The Scorpions.

He plays excellently, whoever it is. I back up Tristy in that I think everyone who likes them should get this set. And any others from this tour you can pick up. They sound better live now than I believe I've ever heard.

I got the leak and I hope these aren't the actual production values of the albums. It's just Billy's voice really loud and annoying. Every song besides "United States" I swear sounds the same too. And "United States" then sounds like a Tool song. All in all, I'm pretty disappointed with it. But if the production values change on the CD release I'll feel a lot better about it.

Colour me "In Love".

This is so goddamn good so far. Up to 'Neverlost' thus far. 'United States' is almost too badass for words. This is really excellent, and the production sounds nice to me, contrary to most people I've heard from :P

If you dug "United States", methinks you'll have a good time with "For God and Country".

Personally, I was hooked from "Bleeding the Orchid" onward. It's an album where if you get caught up, you'll do so either at the beginning or within the first 90 seconds.

Regarding the "Miss Murder"/"Tarantula" comparison, there's the harmonic guitar walk-down fill in the beginning of both songs, but I think the song owes more to "Happy Together" for how the chorus' harmonies are lined up.
