That's good news. I've just read that it will have a high-speed mode and auto-save, which are ideal for me.

Autosave might ruin any chance of speed run for Excalibur 2 though depending on how it's implemented

Ugh, think I may have balls-ed up the Yuffie bit and won't be able to get my materia back

nvm, I saved before it happened so have just gone back to there

I'm sure you could recover from the Yuffie section...even if you were too weak for it so had to go away, level up some more, find better weapons or something and come back.

The only situation I can imagine it completely being screwed up is if you got your materia stolen, went away and otherwise progressed to Disc 3 so as to lock the side-quest out.

I don't think it even locks you out then does it? Or does it happen after the return to Midgar?

But yeah, worst scenario realistically is being under levelled (been there as a kid) but still do-able with a bit of work and luck.

No idea. I'm just going off things I read about the (first) Wutai side-quest being locked out in Disc 3, but even that may not apply if it's already been activated.

All this talk does tempt me to pick up FF7. My back catalogue is beginning to balloon again though.

I saved the game in Wutai, I thought that was what prevented you from being able to get the materia back.

Nah, you can save as much as you like in Wutai.

It's just when you first meet Yuffie you can't save isn't it?
