Pro Wrestling X gets Canadian GOverment founding

1) This match has a two and a half year time limit

**************************************************

So today is the day. Sometime later today the Canadian government

will be emailing me a decision that either says, "We have decided

to support Wrestling Gamers United and will fund the Pro Wrestling X

project prototype" or something along the lines of, "What the hell

were you thinking, loser, a WRESTLING game?!"

Either way we've got it covered. If the decision is positive we plan

get everyone together for a week, rent some studio space, and organize

our asses off. Once the basic design doc is drawn up we all chain ourselves

to our desks and come out when the prototype is done. Like I've stated

earlier, we've already begun the planning stage anyway so we're a few

steps ahead and can hit the ground running. The animation doc is coming

along nicely and really enlightening us with regard to just how much

character animation will be needed. Over one fifty animations so far

just to cover the different idle, walking, and transition movements.

Now, if we don't get the cash from the Federalies (as our programmer Dan

likes to call them) we have a plan to cover that, too. First, we spend a

day crying like school girls, maybe two. Then we go to the private

investors who are lined up to match the government funds and say, "Good

news. The government was blind to this amazing investment opportunity and

now we can offer you the chance to get 100% involved and reap 100% of the

investment returns." Can I point out the bright side or what?

I've been chatting with James our 3D arena guy almost every day for

the last year and we both had to admit that the process has been

exhausting. It really takes a lot out of you, not so much the bad news,

but the constant never ending cycle of anticipation. Back in October

of last year when we had a start to the prototype with a developer

(which turned out to be a false start) I literally collapsed onto

my sofa and barely lifted a finger for two days, the relief was so

overwhelming. I can't imagine what it will feel like this time. No

false start, real money, real progress. The fact that the crew has

stuck by the project for this long and continued to help out

with no money is a testament to their faith in the project. I had

someone ask me for a job on the project if we get funding and I

told him, "not until every other crew member who believed in this

project is getting paid full time will I hire another person." The

crew deserves all the rewards this project can generate. To stick

by some schmuck for over two years who consistently failed to raise the

cash is amazing to me and I can't thank them enough.

Two and a half years. Can you believe it? Will today be the payoff

or will it be yet another test of our resolve? I'm checking my email

every minute until I know. I'll send out a special announcement when

I hear from them. If they delay the decision yet again I will not

send out a special announcement. No news is good news until then.

later that day

I got the email from the government late today and the first line reads, "...pleased to advise you that

your application was successful..."

It's good news. Something good has really happened to us.

  SWEET MERCIFUL CRAP!!!!!!!!!!

To quote Joey Styles, "OH MY GOD!!!!!!!"

There are still things to do and details to finalize before they sign the check but...

what can I say? You guys stuck with the project and supported the crew and I

for two and a half years and I can't say THANK YOU loudly or often enough.

So much to do. So much to organize, it's beyond crazy. I can't even think straight my

head is still spinning from the news. Thank you guys thank you. Your support kept

this ridiculous movement going after all the failures and set backs. Without your

constant encouragement I would have ran out of gas a long time ago and the crew

would have bailed. Thank you so damn much for not letting us give up.

There is going to be a lot of news in the next week and I'll be here bright and

early Friday morning getting it all down in newsletter number 124.

In case I forgot. Thank you.

I have to admit i never thought this game would get annywere and i always laught at the guy wen he tried to hook up with gaming companys ore now the goverment founding (seriusly, why dos a goverment found a wrestling game ?)

Hold the phone...

The Canadian government. (I.e the government of Canada - the guys that run the country that is Canada) just, for no reason, handed over a phat wad of Canadian mini-dollars to some computer nerds... for no reason?

Brb, I'm off to the Canadia Embassy in Trafalgar Square.

Good ol' Canada.  Of course, I could have used that money to reduce my waiting times in the hospital... =|

Ah well.  I need another wrestling game more.  This better be worth it!

Saw a girl hideously break her leg at a soccer game last week.

25 minutes after the call was made..

..an Ambulance finally pulls up. Of course, the medics take about 20 minutes to get the girl on the stretcher/into the ambulance, and then spend 10 minutes sitting there before finally driving off.

This is why our medicare is free.

Because it sucks.

Matzat you suck, you do know that, right? Just making sure. :P

I was on my way here to post this, I click on Ent. and see that you've posted it and taking all of my fun and bright morning away. Either way, it's great news, especially since I've been behind them since the very very beginning back when their site was based around FirePro.

Although to be fair, the EMT's are almost independant from the hospital itself.

Haven't you guys ever watched TV late at night and saw those commercials with Matthew Lesko? The really excited guy who wears a suit with question marks all over it? He has a series of books all about how you can get government grants to start a business. And yes, it's the United States. So before you start calling the Canadian government stupid, the US does it too. And this is hardly stupid, this is the government's way of encouraging competition from a small business; look at the big picture, it's more than just a wrestling game.

Anyway, the Pro Wrestling X was an idea spawned on a message board for WMX8. After THQ dumped AKI, they promised us Nintendo would still get quality AKI-esque wrestling games. Of course, WMX8 was quite possibly the worst wrestling game since WCW Thunder, and filled with broken promises, a bare bones CAW, and a piss poor imitation of the AKI engine. So the creator of PWX, a guy named Dave Wishnowski expressed his opinion on the game on a message board. Someone replied back "well if it sucks so bad, I'd like to see you do better." So he took the person up on the challenge. Of course, independent development of video games takes a lot of work, but the team has stuck with it for two years, and it looks like they're finally getting the financial backing. It is a fictional wrestling game, but their biggest concern is a very deep CAW and strong gameplay.

Yet our government fails to support our hockey teams...

That doesn't really have any relevance. The purpose of government grants is to help small businesses get into the marketplace. It's just like people who want to get into college can apply for government grants to pay for tuition. And they're better than loans cause you don't have to pay them back. See, governments aren't all evil, sometimes they really do something to help out the little guy.
