I recently found my copy on disk, did anyone else used to use this? I fecking loved this program, I'd spend hours making my own RPG's, I think one of the ones I made was all of about 2-3 hours long and I actually released a demo for it as well. All the games you made would be in sort of 16bit, SNES/FF6 style graphics and would be a bit naff, but still awesome. It was easy to build maps and make bosses and storylines etc. this was one of the reasons I found out about Message Boards and joined my first one ever, gamingw.net :')

Did anyone else know about this, or it's sequel, RM2K3, or am I alone?

I remember toying around with this a few times when it came out a long while back, but I never full-on delved into making my own. Still, I was pretty impressed with the amount of customization, and may someday have another crack at it. Definitely want to get a program/piece of hardware that emulates the old NES/SNES MIDIs and compose stuff with that.

I loved it, I've used pretty much every "game" in the series, from RPG Maker 95 through to (briefly) RPG Maker VX. I made a pretty epic game on 2000, and really got into figuring out just how far you could push it as a creation tool, as well as stringing out a fairly in-depth plot to go along with it, but never really reached those heights again - 2003 required too much work for me to give all the characters battle animations as well as their usual sprites, and by the time XP and VX came along, I just didn't have the patience or the mindset to sit and draw out maps - I had huge stories I wanted to tell, and loads of ideas for game systems and events that XP's scripting language would have been ideal for, but I just never where to start, and as such never really did anything. It's a nifty little program, though.

Yeah, 2k3's battle system was part of what started to kill my interest, but XP was the final nail in the coffin. There was so much that could be done with XP's system but it required so much more work to do any of it, not to mention I really didn't like the change of graphical style. 2k3 as you said was too much effort to mess around and make the sprites for battle animations.

Anyone ever play Legion Saga? I remember that was pretty much "The" RM2K game and they had a fairly awesome battle system that was stolen from there on out. All attack animations were animations of the sprites moving in from the side and attacking, and the actual game was really fun. I remember beating it and the second and third ones. I was also in a DBZ fan stage back then and made like 20 DBZ games. :P

Yes! I had forgotten all about this! I played Legion Saga as well, it was a brilliant game. I did start my own game about a hero having to reassemble the seven pieces of an ancient sceptre to banish an evil overlord but it never went anywhere.

I actually went out and found Legion Saga III earlier today and it's still not a bad game. I think I looked through the story with rose-tinted glasses but the actual game is still pretty solid. :) You only need to install the RTPe thing to get it to work too. I remember the first time I downloaded it all, the actual thing was something like 30mb and I had dailup, so I spent about 3-4 hours impatiently waiting for it to download. >_>

I believe my biggest story was about a young boy who became a part of a Firefly esque group of Pirates/Mercenaries that were a part of a Resistance against the new emperor of whatever planet they lived on. (Probably called some like Gaia or something)

You can also download Legion Saga I and II here, along with a copy of RPG Maker 2000 to play it on. Just spent about half an hour on the first instalment and I'm actually really enjoying it. A friend of mine was addicted to the PS version for about a year and he used to create some half-decent FF clones - will have to see if he's still got his copy 'cos I do enjoy me some nostalgia-revelling.

EDIT: Link removed. Not sure if it's vegan-kosher or not.

Might want to remove the link as I'm pretty sure RM2K is considered Warez. (Wasn't it illegally patched and only released in Japan? Unless it's now free for whatever reason.)

Am really not sure if it's above board or not, as a piece of freeware, so I've deleted the link - you might want to do the same in the quote, TKz. The actual "copy" of RM2K in that particular download doesn't actually allow you to make your own, it merely acts as a reader for Legion Saga, so I don't think it's too much of an issue - but, regardless, it's gone.

What the RTPe? That's fine, that's just a collection of pictures and shit. It's just the actual program itself that's Warez. My mistake it appears. :P

How does Legion Saga 2 hold up today? I remember one was mostly RTP graphics and a little on the dull side, and that 3 was apparently a Suikoden rip off (though I don't know which one as I never played the game), but I can't recall much about 2.

I had the ones for the consoles. A buddy and I spent about 3 months on the PS1 version. We had the whole opening scene (About 15 minutes) the 1st town and the 1st dungeon figured out, but not complete. We must have spent a week learning how just to have 1 towns folk NPC tell you one thing, then come back and tell another thing and so on. It was one of those you had to talk to it several times from different directions to get what you really wanted out of it. Ahh the fun, yet so very annoying ways they made 16 bit RPG's hard.

I would love to continue to work on it, but it's so time consuming and I have forgotten everything about the game so I would have to relearn it all over again.

Switches and Variables were easy as shit, it was pictures and Co-Ordinates that were a bitch. I remember me and a group of friends did some insane stuff thanks to the Variables and things, like a complete replica of the Legacy of Goku GBA battle system. (Which was an awesome game back in the day.)

I remember one game I played way back when that wasn't finished, that was made in a sort of steampunk kinda setting that had custom music and all that. I cannot remember what the game was for the life of me, but it was absolutely amazing, I then proceeded to spend weeks searching for new spell animations, and thats as far as I got :(.
