Help me finding a Movie !

Maybe I'm just imagining things but I have this scene from a movie(or tv show) in my head, but I just can't remember which one it was.

The scene is as follows:

One of the characters tells a story (maybe to his students?) about his final(?) exam at university I guess and the topic was the book his professor wrote. He just invented a person and wrote how he must have influenced his professors book and his professor just accepted the idea that this person existed and gave him an A .

I know it's pretty vague, but maybe someone can help me out.
