Variety is reporting the first details of the upcoming prequel series. They're saying that it will be set during the Age of Heroes, which is around 10,000 years before the events of the current series. It seems like a smart choice, with so much of that period left as a mystery by George RR Martin, but with legendary characters like Bran the Builder potentially being involved too. It's being written by Jane Goldman along with GRRM himself, who will also serve as an executive producer.
