Who needs a mortgage anyway?!

In the end, I'm hoping that $150 Canadian isn't going to be too big of a folly. It's essentially 1 and 1/2 new, full priced video games... and the backup plan if the girlfriend and our friends lose interest is apparently that it's still fun to play solo. So there's always that.

Got through the first stage today with just her and I so we can play test it and help everyone along the way. I got fatigued at the very end, but she managed to end it with a success. Took about an hour and a half and now that we get it a bit more and can prep better, we can probably (hopefully) cut that in half.

My buddy and I started playing Gloomhaven. We haven't played in a while but are playing again tomorrow.

During our second mission, I thought there was no way we could win, so I went and got a treasure chest instead of saving my partner. He ended up having a really good turn and we probably could have won. Oops.

The boss in the Barrow? Yeah it was looking bad for us too, but I managed to compound enough damage with the Scoundrel from my attack + poison + a status effect card that game me +2 more damage, along with a combat modifier to do the boss's entirely pool of health in one strike. I didn't make it through the first scenario because we did a road event that removed 2 of my cards beforehand (and the scoundrel only has 9) - I had to bum rush into the final room to do as much damage as possible.

We played so long ago I honestly can't remember but that sounds about right. I just figured we couldn't win. My buddy is the Cragheart so I underestimated how much damage he could do.

I've been playing as the Mindthief. I'm not sure if I love it yet.

If you were playing the campaign, that would be it because scenario 1 and 2 are linked, yeah.

Girlfriend is playing the Cragheart. I'm the Scoundrel.

Board Games for 4. Not Catan or Ticket. Open to theme and mechanics, but we tend to like deception and resource management. Something relatively easy to learn.

You pretty much just described Sheriff of Nottingham, here's a short synopsis.

And the longplay that got me into it.

Was invited to go out and play Uboot today with mates. Co-op app driven game and had great fun. I was navigation officer which meant plotting courses and working out intercept routes. Managed to take down three merchant ships and escape from an escort when we raided a convoy. Was great fun and probably looking at a longer campaign with the crew since we worked pretty well together.

So I just got my Kickstarter rewards for backing Bargain Quest and if you've never played this I highly recommend it when it hits retailers. Lots of fun and not horribly complicated to learn, and it's one of those games where neat little side stories go on all game that to me make things more fun. We had a Fighter hero who basically lasted all game until the very last monster got drawn. She killed him, but because of his adventure card, he paid out his leftover money to the others--which included his successor who actually ended up killing the last monster. We'll never forget you, Fighter. :crying:

Oh man a guy at the local store was trying to sell me on it... said it was coming in at the end of the month. Interesting.

I'm thinking of picking up Terraforming Mars. I want something I can solo play and also 2-player.

And also, by gawd... Trogdor is FINALLY shipping in Canada. Still waiting on my notice.

Yeah, Bargain Quest is a lot of fun, it seems involved but it's actually pretty breezy to play so my wife and son were both doing fine with it.

I've had Trogdor for a couple weeks actually but haven't played it yet! Took some pictures in the thread.

That is so awesome, I really hope that mine comes soon... although there's been problems with Canadian shipping apparently, and I don't even have my tracking number yet. At this rate it's going to hopefully ship next week.. fingers crossed.

I used my credit over at the local hobby/games store and picked up Terraforming Mars tonight. I've been hunting down bigger single player experiences that can also be played two player, but shine in some way as a one player as well and it was near the top of the list of a lot of people's stuff along with;

  • Lord of the Rings: LCG (which I desperately want to find)
  • Scythe
  • Mage Knight
  • Robinson Crusoe
  • Friday

And a few others that I put on a wish list.
