We've gone from 50 to 34 without a single Final Fantasy game?

Either somebody doesn't like the series or it's going to be a lopsided Top 25...

Hey, at least EarthBound and SMRPG made the list, although I can see why NCAA didn't (since it's really just Madden with colleges instead of the NFL).

Yes, yes, I know they're different, I'm just saying that NCAA's incarnations are nearly exact clones of Madden's games with some minor tweaks for the college game.

33. Final Fantasy VIII (PS1/PC)

While being the lowest ranked of the FF games on this charts (there are four FF games on this list), FF8 has gotten a good reputation due to an amazing story, great graphics, and all that RPG fans would want from a game. While still ranked quite low in the FF kingdom, make no mistake that Final Fantasy VIII is still a great game.

I'm getting the feeling the top ten will be nothing but FF games, that's generally how any of these internet things turn out when Square fanboys are around.

EDIT

Goddammit ROC, stop ruining my jokes.

Before I go on with the list, I have realized one problem with my list. Apparently, I counted Super Mario Kart as two different games (Super Mairo Kart and Mario Kart) so unfortunately, due to my mistake there is no #32.

31. Super Smash Bros. Melee (GCN)

In 2001, Nintendo launched its Gamecube to compete with the Playstation 2 and while it still hasn't won the war (or even come close), it got its first very popular game with Super Smash Bros. Melee. The game has become a Nintendo fan's wet dream with over 20 Nintendo characters, an immense arsenal of four-player battle options and an awesome single-player mode. The game is also a good tribute to the characters Nintendo has created and the great games starring them.

30. Viewtiful Joe (GCN/PS2)

In the midst of a big breakthrough year (2003) for cel-shaded games, one game stood out and triumphed over the others. That game is Viewtiful Joe. The game was heavily praised for its sleek style and great gameplay and that often has been the reason fans have came back for it. With a sequel on the way, we haven't seen the last of this inventive genre.

29. Sega's NFL Series (GEN/Saturn/DC/PS2/XBOX)

From old childhood memories of the Sega Genesis, to today's great football titles at bargain-bin prices, Sega has brought the heat in terms of gameplay. While many fans won't choose it over Madden, its gameplay values and top notch graphics have switched many Madden fans over to the other side at least for a few days. If this year's sales are any indication, Sega's NFL games might be the top alternative to Madden for many more years to come.

28. Mario Kart 64 (N64)

As they did for many system launches, Nintendo's best games were just but a few months after their system's launches. This is the case for Mario Kart 64, a 64-bit adaptation of Super Mario Kart. The game has proven to be one of the best arcade-style racing games and has proven to be an idea copycated by many other companies and game franchises. That shows the amount of true influence that this series has had on gaming forever.

27. Manhunt (PS2/XBOX)

No doubt this will be a controversial choice, one that I honestly don't like myself but often controversy has sold games. In 1993, the home version of Mortal Kombat became one of the biggest selling games of the year just as a scandal occurred about its violent content. Now, in 2004, this game has gained controversy for its brutal, torturous violence as could be a certain senator's next target. While ultraviolence can be unsettling for many, there'll be a few psychotic freaks  that'll be happy about this game's inclusion.

26. Resident Evil (PS1/GCN)

When Resident Evil came out, no one knew the impact it would have on gaming. While many state that Alone In the Dark created the survival horror genre, everyone knows that it was RE that popularized it and made it big. The series has become truly Capcom's flagship with several RE games out and a movie adaptation even came out in 2002. With this series' diehard fanbase, expect more games (and movies) coming from a true innovator of a different kind.

Well, this'll wrap up the list for the night. Stay tuned tomorrow when we get closer to EWB's Top Video Game.
