It's been a whole year since Chelsea last won it, so I figure it's our turn again.

Hey fuck you all, FA Cup news - the final has been moved back to the traditional end of the season slot.

FA general secretary Alex Horne said: "We're aware fans and media have been calling for the FA Cup final to have a day to itself and we're delighted that this is going to happen for 2014."

Oh yes, the fans and media have been calling for it. Mm-hm. That's absolutely the reason this has happened.

I'm sure people enjoy the idea that this is a great victory for football traditionalists and what-not, and the FA is clearly all too happy to accept the appearance of magnanimity, convenient as it is.

In the last three years, the FA Cup Final was held during the league season only because one of the following two reasons applied in each case: a) Wembley Champions League finals (and UEFA regulations requiring the pitch left free for X weeks beforehand), or b) allowing the England team a clearer run-up to Euro 2012.

Now we're in a season when neither of those will apply and remarkably the FA Cup Final date is back where it "belongs". The next time when they have a reason to move it, it'll be right back in the mire of the league fixtures.

But they're moving it this year, even though the World Cup is at the end of this season.
