October 9th, 2004 - Rise of the Independents: Final Encounter

B-Boy vs. John Walters

No wasting time here as these two get this show started right away. A very competitive match all the way through with B-Boy dominating the first part with several hard strikes and high impact moves. Walters makes a comeback with the Lung Blower double knees to the back and works over B-Boy’s back. B-Boy is able to come back with a Siakolypse. He beats Walters into the corner and then hits his running dropkick to the face! He pulls Walters away from the ropes but only gets a 2 count. He then hits a version of John Walters’ Hurricane DDT! Walters kicks out and is visibly enraged but that is actually one of B-Boy’s moves, he wasn’t showing disrespect to Walters! Walters gets up and blasts B-Boy with some vicious forearms and then hits a big brainbuster for a 2 count. He calls for the end and goes for the Hurricane DDT but B-Boy gets out, dropkicks Walters knees out and goes for the Shining Wizard but Walters ducks it and backslides B-Boy, one-two-three! Walters with somewhat of an upset over B-Boy!

WINNER---John Walters

Right onto the next match here as we’ll see Pro Wrestling NOAH veteran “Future Legend” Donovan Morgan taking on the high-flying Amazing Red in what will surely be a clash of styles. Morgan cheated to beat BJ Whitmer in his first tournament match while Red almost got murdered by Dan Maff and a Burning Hammer off the top rope.

Donovan Morgan vs. Amazing Red

Red again tries to wear out his larger opponent by using hit and run tactics and it works against Morgan and Red is able to DDT him and hit a big elbow off the top for 2. A 7-1-8 and a springboard hurricanrana get another 2. Morgan comes back with a huge back suplex followed by some big forearms and a Tiger Driver for a 2 of his own. Morgan uses some suplexes to get a few more 2 counts until Red comes back with a big spinning front kick. He goes up top and goes for the Infrared but Morgan moves out of the way! Morgan then hits a suplex, holds on and hits a fisherman’s suplex and then holds on again for the Golden Gate Swing! He planted Red! He picks Red up and hits the Sayonara. One, two, three and that’s it.

WINNER---Donovan Morgan

We go backstage to Trent Acid.

Acid: “I just have a few words to say about my opponent tonight, Jerry Lynn. Now Jerry, people in the wrestling world call you the “New Fuckin’ Show.” Now it’s a cool nickname, if you didn’t RIP IT OFF from Rob Van Dam because you sucked so bad you couldn’t beat him! Hell I’ve beaten Rob Van Dam DOZENS of times! Jerry Lynn, there’s a reason that the female fans in the arenas across the country PAY to stick their hands down my pants and cop a feel of the 9 and a half inches. I am THE fucking show and tonight I’ll prove it when I beat your sorry ass, now cameraman, get the fuck outta my face!”

Next up we’ll have Homicide and Matt Stryker. Stryker put up a good showing in a loss to Trent Acid while Homicide defeated John Walters. This will be much the same match-up as Homicide/Walters.

Homicide vs. Matt Stryker

A good match here as Stryker works the leg of Homicide. Homicide has to resort to strikes to stay off his injured leg, so he uses brutal forearms and headbutts to subdue Stryker. He gets a Koji Cutter to bide himself some more time. He tosses Stryker to the floor and waits for him to get up, but when he goes for his Tope Con Hilo his leg gives out! Stryker is quick to capitalize and gets in the ring and applies the Stryker Lock! Homicide yells in pain and almost taps out but he toughs it out and gets to the ropes. Stryker pulls him back now in an anklelock but Homicide rolls forward, propelling Stryker into the turnbuckles! He tries for the Cop Killa but Stryker escapes and German suplexes Homicide for 2 and a half! Stryker calls for the end and goes for his Stryker Driver but Homicide escapes behind, takes out Stryker’s knee and hits a desperation Shining Wizard, not able to get everything on it because of his lack of speed built up there. The ref lays the count in and at 8 they get up and trade chops and forearms, Stryker gets the advantage, whips Homicide and hits a big boot but Homicide stays on his feet and fires back with a Yakuza kick! Stryker runs to the ropes now but Homicide hits another brutal Yakuza kick and then a Lariat that turns Stryker inside out! He turns Stryker over and that’s enough to get the 3! Homicide climbs to 2-0 as Stryker falls to 0-2!

WINNER---Homicide

****

Homicide and Stryker stare each other down after the match, Stryker holding his head, Homicide favoring his leg and they shake hands, what a show of sportsmanship!

Up next we’ll see BJ Whitmer vs. Mark Briscoe. These two have only faced each other a handful of times, mostly in tag team matches, however in their only 1 on 1 matchup, Mark Briscoe came out victorious.

BJ Whitmer vs. Mark Briscoe

Very even bout, Mark Briscoe the quicker of the 2, using that quickness to his advantage with a springboard dropkick early, BJ knocked outside. Mark then hits an INSANE shooting star press to the floor on BJ! The fans chant “Holy Shit” as Mark throws BJ back in. A jumping back elbow gets 2 for Mark. He controls the pace a little longer until BJ hits a big lariat. He then hits Rolling Germans and a diving headbutt for 2. He goes for his Exploder 98, Mark elbows out and hits a big T-Bone suplex but BJ gets up and hits an Exploder but Mark gets up from that! They start trading forearms, BJ gets the upper hand and tries for a roaring elbow but Mark ducks and drops BJ RIGHT ON HIS HEAD with a brutal T-Bone Exploder! Mark calls for the end and goes up top but gets crotched by BJ. BJ brings Mark crashing down with a superplex and gets a 2 and a half. He goes for a Dragon suplex but Mark blocks so BJ tries a German instead, Mark backflips out and lands on his feet, boots BJ in the gut, tries for his Cut-Throat Driver but BJ escapes that, boots Mark and locks his hands and BAM! Hits the Exploder 98!! One, two, three! What a win for Whitmer!

WINNER---BJ Whitmer

*** ¼

We go backstage where Jay Briscoe is warming up for his big match against Samoa Joe later tonight. Samoa Joe himself comes into the room as Jay quickly stands up to meet him.

Joe: “Take it easy pretty boy. I came in here because I have something to say. Your brother beat me last time, a fluke, but he beat me. You’ve pinned me in the past, I almost ended your career in a cage match. We’ve done everything to each other possible. And tonight, we’re gonna do it one more time. I just wanted to say I respect you as an athlete, but tonight, if you think you’re gonna beat me just like your brother did, you are dead…wrong.”

Jay: “Is that so? Well I guess I’ll just have to prove you wrong.”

Joe: “Yeah. Guess so.”

Joe walks away as Jay watches him go.

Well that was interesting, that match should be a good one later on in our main event but right now we have the 1-0 Trent Acid up against the 0-1 Jerry Lynn.

Jerry Lynn vs. Trent Acid

A fast paced exchange starts this one out with Lynn using his experience edge to keep Acid grounded. Acid escapes a suplex and goes for his 3 strike combo, hitting the 2 kicks but Jerry ducks the roaring elbow, charges Acid, Acid elevates him over the top rope onto the apron, blocks a punch from Jerry and goes for a shoulderblock but Jerry leaps over Acid and legdrops him over the middle rope. He goes up top and hits a big diving bulldog and gets a 2. Acid uses some underhanded tactics to gain control and hits a Blue Thunder Driver for 2. Outside the ring he hits an Asai moonsault. He sets up two chairs so they are in sitting position and then bridges the two with another chair. He lays Lynn on the bridge and climbs up on the turnbuckles. He then comes off with the Bad Trip twisting splash onto Lynn and the chairs! Holy Shit! The ref lets the rules slide a little here as Acid is slow to get up. He drags Lynn up and throws him in but Lynn kicks out at 2 and ¾ ! Acid goes outside and brings a chair in, setting it up in a sitting position in the middle of the ring. The ref tells him not to use it but he is disregarded. Acid sits Jerry up on the top turnbuckle and goes for his Acid Bomb, the inverted Razor’s Edge of sorts but Jerry reverses in mid-throw with a victory roll! One, two, thr..no! Acid barely kicks out! Jerry’s on a roll here with a couple clotheslines. He hits a swinging DDT for a 2. Acid reverses a whip and tries to back body drop Jerry but Jerry goes up and over and hits an inverted DDT for another close 2 count! He calls for the end and goes for the Cradle Piledriver but Acid back drops him. Acid goes for the Yakuza kick but Lynn catches the one leg and lifts him into a sitout powerbomb for another 2 and ¾ ! He goes for a top rope legdrop but misses, Acid tries a Yakuza kick but Jerry ducks, boot to the midsection, tries a Cradle Piledriver, Acid with a backdrop but Jerry holds on into a sunset flip, 1-2, Acid reverses to a pin, 1-2, Jerry reverses again, 1-2, Acid rolls out and then somersaults over Lynn into a pin, 1-2, Lynn bridges up and twists around into a backslide, 1-2, Acid out again, but before he can even fully stand up, Jerry grabs his head and plants him with the Cradle Piledriver! One, two, three! Jerry Lynn wins a fantastic match to set both men’s records at 1-1!

WINNER---Jerry Lynn

**** ¼

Lynn gets on the turnbuckles celebrating and as he gets down Acid comes charging across the ring and lays Lynn out with a huge Yakuza kick! What a sore loser! He leaves the ring to boos from the crowd along with a few scattered female screams.

Up next a bit of a mismatch but an interesting one nonetheless. The 0-1 “Loose Cannon” Teddy Hart against the 1-0 “Hired Assassin” Dan Maff.

Dan Maff vs. Teddy Hart

Teddy gets right in Maff’s face, trash-talking away. Maff just stares right at him. Teddy spits in Maff’s face and Maff turns to the side and wipes the spit away before hauling off and SLAPPING the taste out of young Hart’s mouth! He picks Hart up and rips off his shirt before proceeding to chop the living shit out of him in the corner! A big chop to the back follows before Maff sends Hart to the corner and hits a back splash and as Hart slumps down to a sitting position Maff bounces off the ropes and hits the Cannonball, squashing Hart! He pulls him out for a pin but Hart gets his foot on the bottom rope at 2. He rolls outside to recuperate. Maff comes out and tries to whip him but Hart reverses and Maff crashes into the ROH-style guardrails with a loud thud! Hart climbs up and hits an amazing 360 moonsault to the floor on Maff! He gets up to the crowd cheering him, soaking up the adulation. He puts Maff in the ring and goes up top, coming off with his version of the Spiral Tap, the Open Hart Surgery and covers but Maff kicks out at 2. He goes up for his Hart Attack Shooting Star Press but Maff moves out of the way! They both get up at a 6 count and Hart misses a spin kick, Maff misses a lariat, and Hart finally connects with a superkick. He pulls Maff up and goes for a Tornado DDT but Maff throws him off, Hart lands on his feet and swings but Maff ducks under his arm and hits his BRUTAL half nelson suplex, Hart lands on his head! He drags Hart’s almost lifeless body up and goes for the Burning Hammer but Hart escapes and swings again and Maff again ducks under and plants him with another sickening half nelson suplex! Maff drags him up roughly and this time drills him with the Burning Hammer, DANGEROOOUUUSS!!! One, two, three! Maff goes to 2-0!

WINNER---Dan Maff

Up next we have a great match as “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles (1-0) takes on the “All Around Best” Xavier (0-1). These two have history in ROH and ECWA and had some great matches and this should be no different. Xavier makes his way out first followed by Xavier. AJ grabs the mic before the match.

AJ: Now, Xavier, we’ve been all over the place against each other and whenever you have won a match, you’ve cheated. Now one might figure from this piece of information that you know deep down inside that you can’t beat me unless you cheat. Now I dare, no, CHALLENGE you, you and me, one on one, mano a mano, no cheating, just a straight match and we’ll see who truly is the better man.”

Xavier just stares at AJ but doesn’t make any rash or sudden moves but instead circles AJ as the bell rings.

AJ Styles vs. Xavier

A great exchange of mat wrestling starts this one off, at least a good 5 minutes. It opens up when AJ leapfrogs Xavier, ducks down as Xavier runs over top of him and then pops up with a beautiful dropkick that knocks Xavier to the floor in a classic AJ spot. AJ comes diving over the ropes with a somersault plancha on Xavier. Back inside a suplex into a neckbreaker gets another 2. A whip to the corner and AJ leaps up and backflips off Xavier’s chest, the Tiger Wall, followed by a discus lariat, and that gets another 2 count for AJ. He goes to the apron and springboards but Xavier is quickly up and stops AJ, catching him over his shoulders in a fireman’s carry position and then brings him up and over with a gutbuster! He gets AJ up and hits a Northern Lights suplex, rolls backwards Vic Capri-style and hits another Northern Lights suplex and rolls through again and goes for a third but AJ pounds his back, tries a suplex of his own, Xavier up and over, rear waistlock, AJ standing switch and hits a German suplex, holds on and pulls Xavier up and plants him with a back suplex turned into a sitout facebuster, that’s called the Styles Special #1. He gets a 2 on that. He lifts Xavier into a crucifix powerbomb position but Xavier wriggles out, boots AJ in the gut, hits a powerbomb, holds on and lifts AJ over his head, planting him chest first on the mat and STILL HOLDS ON, floats over and piledrives AJ! What a combo by Xavier! Cover, one-two-thr..no!! AJ kicks out at the very last second! The fans are almost, gasp, starting to cheer Xavier?? He senses the end is near and goes for the X-Breaker, AJ rolls through it and hits a brainbuster on Xavier and both men are down! The fans rally behind them as the ref lays the count in. At 8 they are on their knees, trading shots back and forth. They stand up and AJ hits a flurry of fists and knees. He then props Xavier on the top turnbuckle and goes up, maybe for a rana but Xavier hits shots to the midsection and positions AJ, oh no…he couldn’t be…Kiss Your X Goodbye off the second rope!! The fans erupt as Xavier crawls over for the cover, one…two…NO! AJ kicks out again! What is it gonna take? Xavier positions AJ and then heads up top, possibly for his 450 splash. He takes too long though and AJ starts getting up. Xavier sees him stand up but he flips anyway, AJ catches him by the legs and Xavier falls right into position, here it comes, STYLES CLASH! AJ turns him over, one, two, three! AJ wins an incredible match!

WINNER---AJ Styles

****

AJ can barely stand but he does and celebrates as Xavier staggers up the aisle, holding his midsection. He turns around and looks at AJ and AJ nods at him, beats his chest and holds his fist out at Xavier as Xavier didn’t cheat at all and damn near defeated AJ using his skills alone and he is applauded by the fans for it as he heads to the back.

Well, it’s main event time as Jay Briscoe makes his way out against his arch-rival Samoa Joe. Joe’s Godzilla intro plays followed by “The Champ is Here” and the current ROH champion comes through the curtain, the fans chanting “Joe, Joe, Joe.” Joe is at 0-1 after losing to Jay’s brother Mark on the first A & B block show. Jay is 1-0 after a convincing win over Ted Hart.

Samoa Joe vs. Jay Briscoe

The first few minutes is dominated by a very aggressive Joe, he wants to prove to everyone that the loss to Mark was a fluke and that he can easily beat Jay. Jay has other ideas though as he hits a leg lariat and then beats on Joe in the corner. He gets Joe sitting in the corner and he goes to town with boot scrapes in the corner and then a running one but JOE GETS RIGHT UP and hits a big enziguri kick to floor Jay. He snapmares Jay over, chop to the back, kick to the chest and he goes for the kneedrop but Jay sits up so Joe chops his back, kicks his chest, chop to the back, kick to the chest and then finally hits his kneedrop. He gets a 2 on that. Jay tries to retreat but Joe pulls him back but then launches Jay to the floor anyways! He waits for Jay to get up and hits a running diving elbow through the top and middle ropes on Jay, Misawa-style! He drags Jay to a chair sitting in a corner of the guardrail and sits him down on it, you know what’s coming! He runs at Jay and connects with the Ole Ole Kick and the fans love it. He tosses Jay back in and covers but only 2. Jay is able to stage a comeback and hits some high impact moves to get Joe down. He goes up top and hits the Cannonball Senton! One, two, Joe kicks out! Jay keeps the attack coming and actually hits a huge SITOUT POWERBOMB on big Joe! Joe again kicks out at 2 though. Jay says that’s it and goes for the J-Driller but Joe blocks it. Jay springs off the ropes with a big Yakuza kick but Joe springs up all pissed off and lays Jay out with a gigantic lariat! He yells out and the fans respond as Joe drags Jay to the corner and sits up on the top turnbuckle. He pulls Jay up and lifts him high, he’s going for the Muscle Buster! But Jay is able to fight out and regain his footing on the top rope. He hooks Joe’s arms, my God, not a J-Driller off the top! But Joe blocks it again so Jay tries something else, that being a rana. He jumps and wraps his legs around Joe’s head but Joe doesn’t budge and holds Jay up also. He then comes off with a Superbomb on Jay! He holds for the cover, one, two, but Jay KICKS OUT and Joe transitions right into the STF. Jay struggles and reaches the ropes. Joe sees this and immediately lets go, pulls Jay into the middle of the ring, goes around to Jay’s head and lays in several brutal knees to the back and top of Jay’s head before wrapping his arms around Jay’s neck and his legs around Jay’s body and locks in the Choke! He has him right in the middle of the ring! Soon Jay stops answering the ref and the ref checks Jay’s arm, it drops once, he checks again and it drops again. One more time and it stays up…and then DROPS DOWN! Jay is out and Samoa Joe is victorious! What a valiant effort by Jay Briscoe but this match belongs to Samoa Joe!

WINNER---Samoa Joe

***

Joe stands up and grabs his belt from the ring announcer and yells at Jay to get up as Jay has just now been revived. Joe grabs Jay and hauls him up onto his feet as the refs warn Joe not to do anything, that the match is over. Joe then raises Jay’s arm and the fans applaud his effort. Joe then shakes Jay’s hands and pats him on the cheek before leaving the ring, what an effort by Jay Briscoe!

Well that does it for us, join us for the next round of Block C and Block D action next Saturday!

Damnit...B-Boy, Red, and Hart let me down..Argh! I curse them!

Awesome show, I loved the Lynn/Acid match. I like how your actually putting in altercations with the wrestlers rather then just straight wrestling. Makes a much more enjoyable read.

-Bryan Danielson (1-0) vs. Sonjay Dutt (0-1)- I'm gonna say Danielson, because he just rules like that.

-Frankie Kazarian (1-0) vs. Super Dragon (0-0-1)- Super Dragon, just because I like him a tad bit more.

-Paul London (0-0-1) vs. Michael Shane (0-1)- London

-Spanky (0-1) vs. Chris Sabin (1-0)- Spanky should win, thus I pick him.

-Doug Williams (0-1) vs. The Messiah (1-0)- Williams is really good, and Messiah is only OK, so I say Doug.

-Chris Hero (0-1) vs. Scoot Andrews (0-1)- Hero, because he's slightly better than the BNB.

-Low Ki (0-1) vs. Colt Cabana (1-0)- Damn, this is a toughy. The uber-serious bad ass against the comedic ticking time bomb that is Colt Cabana. I'm gonna say Colt in an upset.

-CM Punk (1-0) vs. Christopher Daniels (1-0)- I hate you and love you for putting on this match. I feel dirty picking against either man, but I feel I just have to say Punk. I don't know why.

I was gonna say this but I forgot so we won't worry about it until after this upcoming show but after this show I also want you guys to pick what you think will be the best match of the night as well. This is based on the match quality stat. If more than one match tie then the crowd reaction stat will be used as a tiebreaker. Anyways the match-ups for the upcoming show are in my sig, get those predictions up!
