It was really fun. Alex Horne is genuinely really nice.

Sadly, British game shows don't tend to do well over here.

They did an American version of The Chase on Game Show Netowkr that I enjoyed. With Mark "The Beast" Labett from the original, and Brooke Burns hosting. (She's now hosting a show called Master Minds, with Jeopardy GOAT Ken Jennings as one of the 3 Master Minds that contestants face.)

The Weakest Link I didn't care for. with or without Anne Robinson. Because more often than not the player voted off was the strongest, not the weakest. (ie, you were better off pretending to be an idiot until the final round) Apparently they're bringing it back, with Jane Lynch as the host.

With Whose Line, it helps that Colin and Ryan are just so damn funny that they're true comedy genuises, and Wayne is so multitalented that it should be illegal.

My mother used to watch the UK and Drew Carey versions, and Colin never failed to crack her up. She doesn't watch the current version, though.

Weirdly Whose Line Is It Anyway, which I guess could be considered somewhat similar, managed to translate to a US audience. I suppose it did have 2-3 American/Canadian regulars on the British version.

I believe improv comedy is more a traditional American theatre style. If anything, it's amazing it was so popular over here... more so after audiences had to sit through two series of John Sessions being a smug bellend first.

For real, and all the American versions or attempts at them are mostly lame. I'm still quite disappointed in the lack of decent game shows on US TV to be honest, as well a comedy panel shows - I don't think there's any!

the fix, on netflix, is an american attempt at a panel show, and it just doesn't work. I couldn't work out why, and someone said it was because most british ones let people at home play along. HIGNFY is topical questions about the news, hypothetical gives room for you to think about what you would do, Cats countdown is obvious... but the Fix is just comedians doing their thing, with nothing for the audience to do. Even Mock the Week has questions the viewers can play along with.

We finished series 7 last night with James Acaster et al. Definitely the best series to date, they all clicked so well and loved taking the piss out of each other. I feel like it won't ever get better than that series.

Seven and five are my favourites, but nine is pretty close so don't worry, it's not all downhill!

I don't think there's a bad series. In fact, there's only ever been one bad contestant (Iain Stirling, what a cockend).

you're right. the worst season of taskmaster is miles ahead of most other shows. Season six is the weakest for me, I think they leaned too hard into personalities that were bad/didn't care. Alice Levine / Lisa Tarbuck / Asim Chowdrey all did a bit of the not trying hard shtick, and it wore a little thin. That said, Lisa and the Cake was one of the best taskmaster moments ever.

I really liked Iain Stirling because it's funny to me when they take it really seriously and get angry (See also James Acaster and Ed Gamble) I think Alice Levine was my least favourite contestant.

I think so far I've enjoyed Frank Skinner, Romesh Ranganathan, Richard Osman, Rob Beckett, Noel Fielding, Aisling Bea, Nish Kumar, James Acaster and Jessica Knappett out of their associated seasons the most - and out of all of those I was only really all that familiar with Noel due to my time with The IT Crowd and watching the yearly Big Fat Quizzes (although I recognized a few other contestants from random panel show segements that get into my YouTube feed over the year).

I really didn't mind Alice to be fair, she'd be one of my favourites from that season over Liza and Asim to be fair, but the season as a whole I don't care much about. Plus I found out recently that she was in My Dad Wrote A Porno.

My favourite contestants are Al Murray for his unrepentant spending, Josh Widdecombe for his puppy-like enthusiasm, Richard Osman for his thinking, Mel Giedroyc for her relentless energy despite constantly doing terribly, and Tim Vine because he's Tim Vine.

Least favourites are Noel Fielding and Rhod Gilbert, Fielding because I don't find anything he says or does funny, and Rhod because I found the majority of what he did a combination of unbothered and lazyness. I know the scoring system is hardly scientific, but Greg seemingly always giving Noel unwarranted points didn't help me like Noel more.
