Ultimate Oliver Stone Collection on Oct. 19

On October 19, Warner Home Video (WHV) will release the Ultimate Oliver Stone Collection, a 14-disc gift set which includes 12 of his most popular and influential films; three documentaries, two of which are DVD debuts (2003's Persona Non Grata and 2004's Looking for Fidel); and an exclusive preview of Stone's highly anticipated November film release Alexander. The Collection also includes a bonus instant movie ticket for up to $12 off the admission to Alexander.

These unforgettable films will be packaged in two elegant "digi" cases placed inside an outer slipcase. Each digi will include seven DVDs and a beautiful booklet. The Ultimate Oliver Stone Collection will be available for $129.92 SRP.

Films in the Ultimate Oliver Stone Collection are MGM Home Entertainment's "Salvador - Special Edition" and MGM Home Entertainment's "Platoon - Special Edition," along with Wall Street, Talk Radio, Born on the Fourth of July, The Doors, "JFK Special Edition Director's Cut," Heaven and Earth, Natural Born Killers, Nixon, U-Turn and "Any Given Sunday Special Edition Director's Cut." Oliver Stone's America, an in-depth look at Stone's extraordinary movie legacy, is the 13th disc in the collection.

White Chicks looked like such a disaster of a movie. I'd never, ever pay anything to see that. Wimbledon looks good and I'm looking forward to the sequel to Ocean's Eleven, Ocean's Twelve.

Resident Evil 3 a Follow-Up to the Games

If I do another movie list for this year, Hitch will be on it. It's a Will Smith romantic comedy which looks like it's Big Willy at his best. As for Ocean's Twelve, I think it's a tad risky to do a sequel to a remake, but I suppose it doesn't make much of a difference since they didn't exactly follow the plot to the original very closely.

Ramirez Joining Fuqua's American Gangster

Dania Ramirez (She Hate Me, Fat Albert) is in talks to join the Brian Grazer-produced American Gangster. Antoine Fuqua is directing the Universal Pictures/Imagine Entertainment project, starring Denzel Washington and Benicio Del Toro.

The film is a biopic of Harlem heroin kingpin Frank Lucas. Lucas grew up in rural, segregated North Carolina. In the early 1970s, he became the biggest heroin dealer in Harlem with a smuggling scheme that imported the stuff out of Southeast Asia in the caskets of Vietnam soldiers. The film centers on narcotics lawman Richie Roberts' struggle to bring down Lucas, whose flamboyant style earned him the street name "Superfly." Lucas goes on to help Roberts hunt down dirty cops and overseas connections.

"Gangster" is expected to start shooting in the Fall for a November 4, 2005 release. Steve Zaillian wrote the script.

Simpson Confirmed for The Dukes of Hazzard

Variety reports that, after months of talks, Jessica Simpson has come on board to play Daisy Duke, the leggy, Jeep-driving cousin of Luke and Bo Duke, in Warner Bros.' adaptation of 1979-85 TV series The Dukes of Hazzard.

It was announced last week that Johnny Knoxville and Seann William Scott will play Luke and Bo, respectively.

The film, to be directed by Jay Chandrasekhar (Club Dread, Super Troopers), has now also gotten the green light. The studio has approved a final budget and a new script by John O'Brien, a writer on Starsky & Hutch.

This will mark the Newlyweds star's feature acting debut, though she did appear as herself in The Master of Disguise.

Just to know that this DVD "is the tip of the iceberg" makes me wanna by it more and more. I wonder what else the are going to release from the archive. It would be cool if they released a box set of special features based off each film.

It would be cool if they released the original fucking movies. Either way, I'm waiting for the inevitable 6 movie set when Episode III hits DVD. Anyone who buys this box set is gonna get screwed when they release that one, just like they're doing with the Matrix now.

Doesn't look like there is much for movie releases. "Mean Girls"? Ugh. If you can, keep an eye out for the documentary "The Corporation". It was in theatres in June-July, but I'm not sure how long those are in theatres. I'm holding out hope it'll be available here, since Fog of War was.

White Chicks was pretty average, but it is worth renting for G-Money (of Battledome fame) who was fucking hilarious. He completely saved the movie, and me and my friends are constantly quoting him now.

The Rock & Karl Urban to Star in Doom

Universal Pictures is in talks with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for a role in video game adaptation Doom, while Karl Urban ("The Lord of the Rings" movies, The Bourne Supremacy, The Chronicles of Riddick) has been cast as John Grimm, the leader of a special ops team.

When dealing with alien demons, Grimm is forced to cross paths with the organization responsible for his parents' deaths. In the game, the story is set at a Mars space station, where an aerospace conglom is conducting secret experiments when something unleashes a demonic force that threatens to overtake the facility.

The futuristic action-adventure, based on id Software's and Activision's "Doom 3" game, will be directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak (Cradle 2 the Grave) and was written by Dave Callaham. Doom is scheduled to start principal photography in mid-October for an August 5, 2005 release date.

Johnson is also attached to star in director John Woo's adaptation of Midway Games' popular game, Spy-Hunter, for Universal.

Danny Elfman Singing Oompa Loompa Songs

Ain't-It-Cool-News reports that composer Danny Elfman mentioned on the Forbidden Zone DVD that, on top of scoring, he'll sing for Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as well.

"I'm singing all of the Oompa Loompa songs in 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," he says. "I'll be doing the voices of the Oompa Loompas."

Elfman previously sang for Jack Skellington in the Burton-produced The Nightmare Before Christmas. Warner Bros. Pictures will release the new adaptation, starring Johnny Depp, on July 15.

I'm glad that in a time of war, when national security is threatened everyday, we can still take time out of our lives to protest children's movies because they aren't politically correct.

The Columbus Citizens Foundation, which produces New York's annual Columbus Day parade, has become the latest Italian-American organization to protest against Shark Tale, the DreamWorks animated film about the shark "underworld." The film features the voices of Robert De Niro, Peter Falk, and actors who have appeared in HBO's The Sopranos. In a statement, the Columbus Citizens Foundation charged that the film makes "unprecedented use of ethnic stereotypes to characterize villains." The group's president, Lawrence Auriana, was quoted as saying, "It is startling that this entertainment should come from DreamWorks, one of whose principals, Steven Spielberg, has been an outspoken opponent of stereotyping and discrimination." A spokeswoman for DreamWorks called the group's complaints "wildly inaccurate" and maintained that the movie "is a positive, uplifting family film with nothing negative or demeaning about it."
