WWE RAW - Monday, September 19th, 2005

In the RAW following Cyber Sunday, Kurt Angle was just coming off a huge win from Shawn Michaels. Angle claimed that he is the great champion the WWE has ever seen, and that he was going to go out there and prove it yet again, when HHH faced him for the WWE title. However, that match didn't happen. Early in the show, John Cena stepped in on The Game's interview time, demanding an explaination for what happed Cyber Sunday during the battle royal. HHH felt that he didn't need to explain what he did, and that the match was every man for himself. However, the argument escalated, and before long the self-proclaimed Doctor of Thuganomics had convinced HHH to put his title shot on the line in a match. That match didn't turn out well for The Game, who lost his title shot. John Cena surprised the crowd by coming out wearing a steel chain around his neck. It became apparent in the match just why he chose to do so. After a not so subtle intentional bump to the ref, Cena wrapped his fist in the chain before knocking the game unconsious with it. Cena easily picked up the three-count following this, finally earning him the right to have a rematch against Kurt Angle.

Kurt Angle didn't lose a step on RAW though. Saying that he came to wrestle, he said he would face any and all challengers that he had to prove that he truly is the best. It was announced that he would be in action in a Gauntlet match for the WWE championship, and that he would face three mystery opponents. When this match came, Kurt Angle walked in with all of the same confidence that he had earlier in the night. Kurt Angle easily took out the first challenger, Chris Masters, making him tap in just over two minutes. The second challenger, Carlito got in a fair bit more offense, nearly stealing the title from Angle after a low-blow. However, he too was unable to pick up the win, and was eventually forced into tapping out as well. The third challenger shocked the crowd, and Angle, however. As 'Slow Chemical' played on the speakers around the arena, and Kane made his way to the ring, Angle looked visibly frustrated. Angle brawled with Kane for a moment, getting the losing end of that fight. After nearly being caught with a chokeslam -- getting out only by raking Kane's eyes -- he rolled out of the ring, and looked to be willing to take the count-out victory. However, halfway up the entrance ramp, he was met by the largest athlete in the world, The Big Show!Now forced to turn around, Angle headed back to the ring. There he again got tangled in a brawl with Kane, before eventually kicking Kane between the legs, much as Carlito had done to him earlier. Angle scored the pinfall victory, and quickly made his way through the crowd, as an angry Big Show got in the ring to check on Kane.

In another championship match, Edge was able to successfully defend his new Intercontinental title against Shelton Benjamin. Lita distracted Shelton, who then turned around and walked right into a Spear by Edge. The Rated R champion seems content with any type of victory he can get though. Although, while he was able to pick up the victory over Shelton (with a bit of help from Lita), his future may not be easy. Prior to Edge's match, Matt Morgan faced off against Ric Flair. He easily won after hitting Flair with an F5, and then got on the mic saying shouting that he was the most dominating force on RAW, and that it was about time that he was given his shot at the Intercontinental title. He went on to promise that he wouldd obtain that title, but that now was not the time. He said that he had something important to deal with. It is not clear what he is referring to yet, but when he does turn his attention to that title, he will likely be a challenge to whoever holds it.

The new team of Shocker and Psicosis was also seen in action, getting the largest victory of their WWE career, beating the Dudleyz in a non-title match. With Bubba dropkicked out of the ring by Psychosis, D-von was set up for the Deep Shock, and then pinned by Shocker. This victory almost ensures a title shot for the new team, but will this entice the Dudleyz' well-known mean streak to shine through again? All sources point to yes.

WWE Tag Team Championship

Randy Orton and Muhammad Hassan vs MNM

In the opening match, Randy Orton had to team up with Muhammad Hassan and face MNM for the teag team championship, after neither of them recieved enough votes to face Batista for the heavyweight championship. In the match they didn't even try to hide the fact that they disliked eachother. They would break up any pin fall attempts made by MNM, but neither seemed too concerned about whether or not the other one got hurt. Rather then extend their arms when their partner was looking for a tag, they'd just wait until the parnter was able to get out of whatever submission move, or lock they were in, until they made the tag on their own. However, there is no denying that they are both great singles wrestlers; and when in the ring, they showed this, holding the upper hand on MNM for the majority of the match. It was also obvious that they both wanted to win. When Melina got onto the apron to distract the ref, Orton actually pulled her off, and delivered an RKO to the diva! Not long after that, Nitro and Mercury fell apart. Hassan was put into a two-on-one, as Orton stood on the apron, waiting. However, Hassan whipped Mercury out of the ring, before applying a camel clutch to Nitro. It was at this moment that things quickly came to a close -- not the way Hassan had expected it to, however. Orton reached over the ropes and tagged himself in. A confused Hassan stood up, only to get tossed out of the ropes by Orton. Orton then lifted Nitro and immediately dropped him again, with an RKO. Orton then covered him for the three-count. Orton tossed Hassan his belt, and walked out looking proudly. Hassan on the other hand looked very angry, as Orton left him to leave on his own a moment later. He did have a tag belt now though.

RAW vs SmackDown! Interpromotional Match

Chris Jericho vs Eddie Guerrero

There was little doube that Eddie Guerrero and Chris Jericho would be able to put on a great match. Any doubt that was existant, was put to rest once the match started. Eddie and Jericho each gave their all in this match. At one point it looked like Jericho was going to take it, when he applied the Walls of Jericho to Eddie, but Eddie was able to make it to the ropes. From there, the two continued their battle. Jericho was able to get another near-fall after hitting Eddie with the Lionsault. The match ultimately came to a close in Eddie's favor, though. Eddie landed the three amigos on Jericho, and followed them up with a Frogsplash for the victory.

Interpromotional 20-Man Battle Royal

Rey Mysterio, Bobby Lashley, Booker T, Team Mattitude, Tajiri, Big Show, HHH, Kane, Matt Morgan, John Cena, The Dudleyz, Psicosis, Shocker, Chavo, LOD, Maven, Hardcore Holly

This being an interpromotionalmatch, there was a sense of brand-loyalty. This was apparent, when at the start of the match, the RAW superstars stepped to the left, while the SmackDown! superstars stepped to the right. Although it was apparent that guys like HHH and John Cena hated eachother, apparently they had agreed to work cooperatively for now. At the start of the match, a huge brawl ensued between the two brands. Really stepping up, were two of the rising stars, Lashley and Morgan. Morgan easily eliminated both members of LOD, Maven, and Hardcore Holly not long after the match started, via clotheslines and press slams over the top rope. Lashley, on the SmackDown! side of things, was able to take out Chavo, Psicosis, and Shocker. In an amazing show of strength, Lashley was even able to lift the Big Show, and toss him over the top rope. Show had just finished lifting and tossing Booker T over the top rope, and wasn't prepared for Lashley to do the same to him the moment he turned around. The fighting continued. Team Mattitude were both clotheslined over the top rope by Kane, who was Lashley's next victim to send over, immediately afterwards. On the RAW side of things, HHH was able to toss Tajiri, and the Dudleyz were able to deliver a 3D to mysterio. At this point it was just Lashley and Mysterio -- who had just been planted to the mat -- against HHH, The Dudleyz, John Cena, and Matt Morgan. It definitely didn't look good for SmackDown! However, they continued to fight hard, and Lashley took an opening to clothesline both members of the Dudley Boyz out. However, HHH and Cena working together for a change, had been able to force Mysterio over the top rope. But not so shockingly, immediately after doing this, HHH turned on Cena pushing him over the top rope as well. This made things a little easier for SmackDown!, but it was still one-on-two; Bobby Lashley against HHH and Matt Morgan. Lashley was able to fight back, and hit a Spear on HHH. This nearly knocked him out, but didn't put him over the top rope. With things essentially a one-on-one, Lashley turned to Morgan. The two had a brawl, which eventually ended with Lashley pressing Morgan over the top rope, finally evening the match again. However, turning to face HHH, he didn't see Matt Morgan picking up a steel chair in a rage, angry at losing. There, Morgan headed back into the ring, against the ref's protest, and hit Lashley with a chair. He then lifted Lashley for an F5 before finally listening to the referee and leaving. After that, it didn't take much for Triple H to lift Lashley and toss him out of the ring, making him the winner and new number one contender.

Cage Match

United States Championship

Christian© vs JBL

With the exception of Angle and Shawn Michael's Ironman match, no other match on the card had as much build-up as Christian and JBL. For weeks, JBL had been making life a living hell for Christian. Now, Christian had a chance to get even, but at the cost of giving Bradshaw a title shot. The fans wanted a cage match, and that's what they got. As promised, the fight was brutal. JBL spent much of the early match trying to escape the cage, rather than fight Christian, however. At several points it looked like he just might be able to do it, but Christian was always there to pull him back in at just the last moment. On one instance, JBL had actually gotten out the door, and had his hands on the ground. Christian dragged him in by one leg, just saving the match for himself. It seemed that once JBL got used to the fact that he wouldn't be escaping the cage without laying more hurt on Christian, that his mean streak began showing. From there, over the course of the match, both he and Christian would be bloodied from hitting the cage's walls. The match began to draw it's close, when JBL went for the Clothesline From Hell, only to have Christian duck it. Christian took this chance to push JBL into the ring ropes -- bouncing off of the ropes, with his back to Christian, he was put down by an Unprettier. Christian covered him for the three, and was then handed his belt from the referee. Before leaving ringside, however, Christian scaled the side of the cage and sat on top holding his belt for the crowd. It was several moments before Bradshaw began to stir again.

Intercontinental Championship

Edge vs Shelton Benjamin© vs Carlito

This match was fast paced and exciting straight from the start. The match had it's share of double-team suplexes and DDTs, but none of the participants truly worked together. They all wanted the gold, and knowing they could win it by pinning either of their two opponents, that's what they tried to do. Early on there were a lot of near falls via roll-ups, but every attempt resulted in a kick out. The match continued for a while, with none of the competitors truly gaining an advantage. Carlito was perhaps the first person to do so, after hitting Shelton with a backcracker, just after the reigning champion knocked Edge out of the ring with a dropkick. Looking around, and seeing both of his opponents down, Carlito left the ring, and grabbed a steel chair, and an apple. Getting back in the ring, he cracked Shelton over the head with the chair, and took a bite out of the apple. Carlito then leaned in to spit the apple in Shelton's face. However, as Carlito was laughing he turned around just in time to be nailed with a Spear by a recovered Edge! Edge covered Carlito immediately afterwards. Shelton did his best to crawl over and break it up, but wasn't able to make it in time. Edge had Lita pass him his MITB briefcase at this time, and he stood on the turnbuckle holding the briefcase in one hand, and the belt in the other, looking truly proud of himself.

World Heavyweight Championship

Batista© vs Chris Benoit

In this match, Benoit gave Batista everything he had. He was outsized and outpowered by Batista, but he clearly had the edge in wrestling experience, and he tried to use this to his advantage. Showing great strength, Benoit was able to ground Batista with a suplex, and once he was down, Benoit immediately went for submission moves such as armbars and headlocks. He couldn't keep the Animal down though, and Batista was able to make it to his feet again. Standing up, Batista was easily able to gain the edge. He tossed Benoit around much like a rag doll. The match switched like this several times; Batista always having the advantage standing, and Benoit always having the advantage on the mat. On the mat, in the later half of the match, Benoit was even able to lock in the Crippler Crossface. He hadn't quite hurt Batista enough though, evidently, as the world champion made it back to his feet, with the move still being applied to Benoit. Batista then tossed Benoit off of him, and onto the mat. As Benoit clutched his back in pain, Batista began shaking the ropes, roaring to the crowd. As Benoit stood up, he was shoved between Batista's legs, and lifted for the Batista Bomb. Batista covered him for the one-two-three, to retain his title. However, after the match, Batista helped Benoit to his feet and shook his hand in a show of respect not often seen in this business.

Shawn Michaels vs Kurt Angle©

As expected, Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels were again able to put on a classic match that will be remembered. In the opening portion of the match, Michaels and Angles were even, move-for-move. Michaels even went to the ground for some mat wrestling, surprisingly. Nearing the twenty minute mark, Michaels picked up a roll, hitting an atomic drop and a crossbody. However, he took a bit too long climbing to the top rope for his elbow drop, because Angle jumped up and hit him with a top rope Angle Slam. Angle was able to cover after this, giving him the first fall. Angle waited out the fifteen minute rest period, but it just wasn't enough time for Michaels to come to his senses. Angle immediately moved in, and applied his Ankle Lock, earning him his second fall via submission. Michaels struggled to his feet afterwards however, and managed to stay in the game. The next time Angle was able to ground michaels, was with an Angle Slam. Angle then took of his shoulder straps before going in for the ankle lock -- Only Michaels was amazingly able to roll Kurt up for the pinfall as he did this, bringing the score up two-to-one. Kurt Angle jumped to his feet afterwards, shocked by what just happened. He spat, and pointed at Michaels, telling him he wouldn't get lucky like that again. Angle was partially right. Michaels didn't get him with another roll-up, but he was able to tie the score a bit later in the match. Angle moved in for a front suplex, only to get pushed away and hit square in the face with a Sweet Chin Music. The clock continued to tick down. It was just in the last seconds, that the final fall ocurred. Through effort and determination, Michaels found himself in position to tune up the band. He stomped on the mat with his foot, as the thousands of fans in attendance did the same. Then with the last of his strength, he delivered a sweet chin music to Angle -- who cought the foot! Almost completely out of energy, Michaels had no choice but to tap when Kurt dropped to the mat, in a grapevined Ankle Lock.

WWE SmackDown! - Thursday, September 15th, 2005

In a strange opening to SmackDown!, the general manager of RAW, Eric Bischoff, made his way to the ring. There he called out Teddy Long, who answered the call. Bischoff said that he thought it would only be business-like to get the answer to the challenge he made on RAW in person. He even had Eddie Guerrero, Kane, and the Big Show, possible contenders for the interpromotional match come out with him. He said he thought it'd be best not to have Morgan and Big Show in the same ring, for obvious reasons. Long was quick to say that he accepted the challenge, but said that he had not yet picked who would be the wrestlers on the ballot to represent SmackDown! Rather, he said he was going to hold three matches tonight on SmackDown! to decide them.

In another interesting move, Long suggested a second interpromotional match. This one, he said, would be a Battle Royal. He said that he had already lined up a tag title shot for the two losers on the ballot for the World Heavyweight Title shot, but that any other superstar on the Cyber Sunday selection sheet that did not get elected would be entered into this battle royal. This left several openings however, and he invited Eric to pick some RAW superstars to enter into the match. He said he would do the same, but did not feel that he had to say who these superstars were at the moment. Eric Bischoff agreed to the terms, stating "May the best brand win", in a less than sincere tone. Eric and the RAW Superstars then left the ring.

In the first of the qualifying matches that Long announced, Rey Mysterio faced off against Maven, putting him away with a 619 followed by a Springboard legdrop. Bobby Lashley also qualified, after scoring what many consider an upset victory over Booker T. Before the match, Bobby Lashley got on the mic for the first time since debuting on SmackDown!, telling everyone that he was the real deal, and that he intends on making a name for himself. He certainly did that after delivering a brutal spear that put Booker T down for the three-count. The final match of the series saw Chris Jericho defeating Matt Hardy. Hardy put up a good efort, but had no choice but to tap out when put into the Walls of Jericho. Now the three possible challengers from each brand are set: From RAW, either Kane, Matt Morgan or Eddie will compete against a SmackDown! superstar: which will either be Bobby Lashley, Chris Jericho, or Rey Mysterio.

Early on in the night, Batista was in the ring, saying that he was ready for Cyber Sunday. He ended up being blindsided by both Orton and Hassan. They put the hurt on Batista, but the two-on-one quickly balanced out when Chris Benoit made his way to the ring to help The Animal. Things didn't stop there, however, as JBL decided he wanted to get involved as well: This of course drew Christian to the ring as well. The huge brawl ensued for several moments until Theodore Long came out to break it up, saying that the next person to throw a punch would be suspended. This quickly calmed down the fighting. Long said that he didn't want this adrenaline to go to waist though, and decided to book the main event: Christian, Batista, and Chris Benoit vs JBL, Randy Orton, and Muhammad Hassan. The match was very intense, just as Long had hoped. Near the end, the match erupted, with all six opponents in the ring at once. There, one after another, the Superstars began exchanging finishers, in a truly chaotic battle. When the dust cleared, Batista was able to put Hassan down with a Batista Bomb, earning the win for his team.

Tajiri was also seen in action, successfully defending his cruiserweight title against Jay Lethal.

WWE RAW - Monday, September 12th, 2005

The final RAW before Cyber Sunday opened up with the general manager, Eric Bischoff heading down to the ring. There he addressed the SmackDown! matches added to the upcoming PPV. "Well first off, I'd like to say, that SmackDown! is in way over their head, trying to take the spot light off of what should be a RAW exclusive PPV. So before I go on to my actual announcement, I'd like to lay down a challenge for Teddy Long. In the interest of sportsmanship, how about we have an interpromotional match? I'll nominate three RAW guys -- Say... Eddie Guerrero, The Big Show, and Kane -- and you can nominate three SmackDown! guys. The fans will then vote for the wrestlers in the match, and then we can find out which brand is tougher."

"With that out of the way," he continued, "I now have an announcement regarding the main event of Cyber Sunday. Now as you know, Kurt Angle and Shawn Michael's rivarly goes way back to Wrestlemania 21. And until now, they've been almost completely even. So here's what I'm going to do, to settle this once and for all: I'm going to give you a choice of three matches. All three of these will leave no doubt as to who the better wrestlers is. I was thinking... A 2 out of 3 falls match; A Last man standing match; and, I don't know... An Ironman match!' With that announcement made, Eric Bischoff dropped his mic and headed back stage. Later on, Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels would bump into eachother back stage. Angle didn't hide the fact that he was looking forward to the match, and that he wanted to prove he was the best wrestler in this business. Shawn Michaels is promising victory as well though. How will this turn out?

After Bischoff's announcements were finished, Trish Stratus and Torrie Wilson kicked off the night in a match. Trish Stratus rolled up Torrie for the win just minutes after the match, but Torrie showed no ill feelings by helping to riase Trish's hand after the match. Edge, who was given mic time, showed much less class. He again took time to insult Ric Flair, saying that he was old and long past his prime. Continuing to insult Flair, he brought up what Flair said on a previous edition of RAW. "Flair, you said you like to make Virgins scream," Edge took a moment to make a stupid face, then added "all night long! Woo!" Edge laughed at himself. "Well let me ask you something Ric, is that before or after you take a certain 'purple pill'?" At this point, Edge was attacked by Ric Flair, and the referee ended up ringing the bell to signify the start of the match. Ric Flair nearly pulled out the victory too, until Edge clocked him with the MITB briefcase while Lita was distracting the referee.

The next match to take place was Matt Morgan vs Chavo Guerrero. Morgan easily put Chavo away with an F5, but was chased away from the ring by Kane just afterwards. In the segment following this match, Edge made his way to Eric Bischoff's office. There he asked Bischoff if he had seen him beat Flair. When Bischoff said he had saw it, Edge said that he had proved that he deserves a shot at the Intercontinental Championship. Bischoff replied to the demand, "You want a shot at the Intercontinental Title? You got it. But I was thinking. We do have several other talented wrestlers on our brand that deserve a shot as well. So I'm going to make it a triple threat match." Edge began shouting at this suggestion: "Who else deserves it as much as I do!" Eric calmly replied "Well, Ric Flair, the man you just hit with a briefcase for one. I'm not sure who else I'm going to add yet. But if you don't get out of my office now, I'll revoke your spot in the match." Hearing this, Edge stormed out of the office angrily.

Later on in the night, following a match in which Shocker and Psychosis defeated The Hurricane and Rosey via the Deep Shock, JR and the King announced that they had gotten word of Eric Bischoff's decision. Carlito, Matt Morgan, and Chris Masters would also be added to the ballot, to be possible contenders for Shelton Benjamin's Intercontinental Title. All of this took place right before the main event, in which Triple H faced off against John Cena, who attacked him the previous week on RAW. This week Triple H would pick up the win, but at the cost of being laid out by John Cena with a chain again. Picking up the DQ victory, while covered in blood didn't make HHH look very much like a winner, but we have a feeling that the war between these two superstars is only just beginning.

WWE SmackDown! - Thursday, September 8th, 2005

SmackDown! kicked off with both Orton and Hassan in the ring, as they were last week. This time, however, Teddy Long promised to have decided a number one contender. Long came out with a contract in his hand, saying that it had the name of one of the superstars in the ring on it, but before he could say who it was, he was cut off by the music of the chairman of the board, Vince McMahon. "Hold on just a minute there, Teddy. Whatever you have on that contract: It is now null and void." Randy Orton and Muhammad Hassan both looked incredibly furious at this decision. Vince McMahon went on to explain the reasoning behind this decision. "As some of you may now, there is a scheduled PPV for RAW coming up, known as Cyber Sunday, which was based on the event we held last year, Tuesday. Well this year, I've decided to try something new. Rather than make this PPV exclusive to RAW, I've decided to open it up to SmackDown! as well; And what better way to do this, then to allow our loyal WWE fans to decide the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Title?"

Teddy Long seemed to like this call, but Orton and Hassan didn't. They both claimed to have already earned the right to face Batista for the title, and that trusting the fans to make the right call would be a terrible idea. Teddy Long, perhaps getting annoyed by their constant bickering, came up with another idea. "You know, playas," he said "maybe you're right that letting the fans decide which of you two should be the number one contender is a bad thing." This got a positive reaction from Hassan and Orton. "So I'll tell you what I'm gonna do: Tonight there will be a fatal fourway match, determining a third ballot entry. Now can you hear that, playas? Oh and by the way, you both have matches tonight, so get out of that ring, and go get ready. Holla, holla, holla." Randy Orton and Hassan could not believe this.

Both Muhammad Hassan and Randy Orton were successful in their matches -- Hassan defeating Matt Hardy, and Orton defeating Hardcore Holly respectively. However, the main event of the evening, the fatal fourway really got the crowd pumped. It pitted Chris Benoit against Booker T, Rey Mysterio, and a third opponent who was not disclosed until the start of the match: That being a returning Chris Jericho! All four of the contenders got close to the win at several points throughout the match. Rey hit a 619 on Booker T; Booker T hit the Book End on Jericho; Benoit locked Rey into the Crossface; and Jericho hit the Lionsault on Benoit. There always seemed to be someone nearby to break up the fall though. Th match eventually came to an end when Booker T knocked Rey and Jericho out of the ring, only to be locked into a Sharpshooter by Benoit, when he took too long to play to the crowd. This win could mean everything for Benoit, if the fans vote him into the title match at Cyber Sunday. In an interview Batista said that he has all the respect in the world for Benoit's ability, but that he does plan to retain his title, even if the Rabid Wolverine turns out to be the contender.

Bobby Lashley was able to continue his winning streak by easily putting Maven away with a Spear. After this match, the cameras went back stage, where Christian was sitting on a ladder. He took his mic time to address JBL. "JBL, you may be wondering why I'm sitting up here on a ladder. Well it's real simple. I was talking with Teddy Long, and he told me that I could have a match at Cyber Sunday... Doesn't that name sound kind of weird... The point is: He asked me what type of match I wanted. It didn't take long for me to decide. I want a ladder match. But the point of this pay-per-view is to let the fans decide. So there are some other choices. You and I can also have a harcore match, or we can have a cage match. I really don't care anymore. Whatever match they decide, I promise you: I will win. Because that's how I roll!"

In a match that much of the audience was upset by, MNM retained their WWE Tag Team championship against Team Mattitude, after Joey Mercury knocked out Shannon Moore with brass knuckles when the referee was being distracted by Milena. MNM promised a victory prior to the start of the match, and they delivered. Is Team Mattitude out of the picture yet though, or will they be back looking for one more shot at the title? This question should be answered by this time next week, on SmackDown!

WWE RAW - Monday, September 5th, 2005

After the opening pyros for RAW had finished going off, the entrance ramp filled with smoke, as Edge made his way to the ring, with his head bandaged. He slid his MITB contract into the ring first, and then slid in after it, holding the rope for Lita. He then got on the mic. He then said that even though he was unable to compete last week due to the injuries he received in his TLC match, that he did walk out as the winner, just as he promised. Edge went on to say that he sacrifices his blood for this company, and is never given the opportunities that he deserves. He said that the main event between Michaels and Angle was a joke, and that the Intercontinental scene, involving a 54 year old man, was even worse. Edge said he would prove tonight, yet again, that he was better than all of these guys, by going out there in defeating the same opponent Michaels did to become the number one contender: Eddie Guerrero. Edge actually did go on to do as he said, getting the pin after knocking Guerrero out with his MITB briefcase. This is sure to do wonders for Edge's ego in the coming weeks. On a somewhat related note, the "54 year old man", that Edge mentioned, Ric Flair, was disqualified for doing his "grab-and-squeeze" routine, on Shelton, and not letting up. While humorous to the crowd, it certainly wasn't for Shelton, and it got Flair disqualified.

The opening contest of RAW saw the debut of the new tag team, made up of Shocker and Psychosis, both new to the WWE. Facing off against the Hearthrobs, they picked up the win with a move they call the Deep Shock -- the combination of a backdrop by Shocker, and a sitou reat mat slam (ala the Edge-o-matic) to the falling opponent by Psychosis. They used this maneuver prior to pinning Romeo for the win. Team 3D had some words for the new team after the match. They stated that they would never get their hands on the tag team gold, and that if they tried they'd be tasting tables.

Later on in the night, John Cena would give an interview of equal hostility, now openly angry. He stated that first he was screwed out of his WWE championship, then he was denied a rematch, and now for two weeks in a row, he hasn't even been given matches on RAW. John then played a clip of his very first match in the WWE, where he only narrowly lost to Kurt Angle. The clips then showed highlights of his following feuds with the likes of Brock Lesnar. The clips ended with a shot of him defeating the Big Show at Wrestlemania XX. Cena than stated the purpose for these clips. "Back then, I used to have Ruthless Aggression; That's what kept me going. And if that's what it's going to take to get my WWE title back, then you best believe that's what I'm going to do again."

Trish Stratus made a return, defeating Victoria to retain her Women's Championship, after being out of action since April. However, this return was overshadowed by another return. I am of course talking about the ten-time WWE Champion, The Game, the Cerebral Assassin, The King of Kings -- Triple H. Tonight marked the first time since his hell in a cell match at Vengeance, that The Game has been in a WWE ring. Triple H was greeted with a huge pop from the crowd as he made his way to the ring. There he mentioned how the title scene had changed since he had last been on RAW. He also mentioned the fact that while he was home, he watched Summerslam. "Wooh, I bet that Cena's ankle is cracked in two!" he said laughing. He then went on to say that he was going to let Kurt Angle and Michaels have their rubber match, and that he wasn't going to interfere -- but that the winner, whoever it may be, better be ready to face The Game afterwards. Before HHH could say anything else, however, he was blindsided by John Cena. Cena clocked him in the head with a steel chain, wrapped around his fist. Cena gave his "You can't see me" taunt, followed by his "word life" finger gesture, before again stating "Rutheless aggression." John Cena promised to do whatever it takes to get his title back, and apparently he sees HHH as the obstacle in the way of him doing that.

The main event featured a tag match between Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels. Angle had Matt Morgan on his team, while Michaels had the Big Red Machine, Kane on his. The rivalry between Michaels and Angle extends all the way back to Wrestlemania 21. And while the rivalry between Morgan and Kane may only be one week at this point, both of these guys eagerly accepted a chance to go at eachother once more, when this match was proposed by general manager, Eric Bischoff. In the end, Angle and Morgan picked up the victory, after Chris Masters made his way to the ring with a chair. With Angle distracting the ref, Masters beat Kane and Michaels down with the chair. Morgan then lifted Kane up for an F5, and pinned him for the win just seconds later. After Angle and Morgan left the ring, however, Kane sat up. He then did a slit-throat motion, pointing at Morgan, as the 6'10 newcomer looked back in shock, as RAW went off the air.

Not long after SmackDown! came on air, Randy Orton and Muhammad Hassan both found there way to the ring, yet again. There, Randy Orton ragged on Hassan, on how he defeated him last week on SmackDown! and how he would now go on to beat Batista for the title -- this greatly angered Hassan. Before the two's arguing turned to a brawl, however, Teddy's Long music hit. However, what he said only made Orton as angry as Hassan. Long stated that due to the controversial finish of Orton and Hassan's last match, he had not yet decided a number one contender, and that he would need more time to think the matter over. "In the meantime," he said "both of you have matches tonight. We wouldn't want potential number one contenders to get rusty, would we, playas?"

Neither of these matches turned out as the competing superstars had hoped as they both felt the need to step in on the other's match. Hassan was the first of the two to get his match, being put up against SmackDown!'s fastest rising superstar, Bobby Lashley. The match was even for a while, but Bobby Lashley began to pick up momentum; And when Randy Orton's music hit, and he made his way down the entrance ramp, it distracted Muhammad long enough for Bobby Lashley to ready a spear. When Hassan turned around, he was immediately knocked down and out, allowing Lashley to pick up the three count. The Legend Killer, Randy Orton found this ammusing until Hassan decided to get even later in the night. Orton was put in a match against Chris Benoit. Though Orton put up a good fight, he was eventually locked into a sharpshooter. With Orton locked into this move, Hassan made his way to ringside, to get a closer look. Orton fought to get to the ropes, and that's when Hassan's true intentions were revealed. Hassan began pulling on the rope so that Orton couldn't grasp it. Eventually, Orton had no choice but to tap. This left both possible number one contenders with a loss.

Batista, the man with the gold both of these superstar's have their eyes on, was also seen in action, easily picking up a win over William Regal. He stated that he hopes Teddy Long picks a number one contender soon, because he's tired of going through easy opponent week after week, like fodder. In truth, the Cruiserweight champion, Tajiri, was in the same situation. Week after week he has been going through opponents as well. This week, the general manager of SmackDown! decided to put him in a 10-man battle royale, against the likes of Paul London, Maven, and Nunzio, among others. Again, however, Tajiri showed that he is a true champion when he overcame the odds and won this. Perhaps more interesting than who won, however, was who came in second. Jay Lethal, SmackDown!'s newest superstar, who lost to Batista just one week prior, has shown he is intent on making up for his loss by making a name for himself.

In a rematch from last week, MNM faced off against the reformed Team Mattitude, consisting of Matt Hardy and Shannon Moore, again. Again they were put down, however. They had the ball in their court for certain and were easily dominating the match; Their over-cockiness ended up costing them the match though. Twice, Mercury could have had the pinfall on Shannon Moore, but instead he chose to pose. In the ended, Moore rolled him up for a schoolboy pin for the victory. Melina and Nitro were furious at Mercury, blaming him solely for the loss. Now with a championship match all but guaranteed, MNM will have to pull their act together if they wish to remain Tag Team Champions.

In probably the most exciting match of the night, Christian faced Rey Mysterio for the United States title. Rey Mysterio took the champion, Christian, to his limits and was very close to picking up the victory. After hitting a sequence of armdrags, Rey moved in for the 619, launching Christian to the ropes with a headscissors takedown. However, as he performed the move, Christian ducked under his legs, and stood up, delivering the Unprettier to Rey. The pin fall was easily picked up after that. However the night wasn't over for Christian. He climbed to the turnbuckle, holding up his title for a moment, but when he got down, he was immediately put down by a steel chair, held by JBL. JBL began shouting "I beat you, and this Mexican gets a title shot? No! I demand a title shot! I want that United States title around my waist where it belongs. I'm not a Canadian like you, and I'm not a Mexican like Rey Mysterio -- I am an American Hero, and a wrestling god! That is my title!" That is twice now, that JBL has gotten the edge on the United States champ. Christian certainly can't be happy about this.

Kurt Angle made his way to the ring just moments after the pyros signifying the beginning of RAW finished going off. Smirking, he told the crowd that he had come through on yet another promise he had made: That he would beat Shawn Michaels down last week, and walk away with his title. He got really into his promo, getting onto the turnbuckle, lifting his gold medal to show the crowd, as he explained how great he is. What he didn't notice until it was too late, was Shawn Michaels make his way through the audience, and slide into the ring behind Kurt. Just as Kurt turned around, stepping down from the turnbuckle, he was flattened with a Sweet Chin Music. The crowd cheered Shawn Michaels, as RAW cut to commercials. Returning from these commercials, Angle was in Eric Bischoff's office. Angle said that he wanted a match with HBK, and didn't care if it was for the title or not.

Eric Bischoff told him that he wasn't going to get that match tonight, making Angle furious. Bischoff told him that the general manager is supposed to do what's good for business, and that catering to whatever the champ wants is not good for business. Bischoff stated that the new number one contender would be decided tonight, when Shawn Michaels faced Eddie Guerrero in the main event. Angle showed open disgust at this, again demanding a rematch with Shawn Michaels, and no one else. He was forced to leave Eric's office however, as Eric told him he had a match coming up. The match turned out to be very easy on Kurt. He picked up an early submission victory over Eugene, via Ankle Lock.

The Number One Contender's match didn't go as smoothly. Michaels and Guerrero put on a great match, that is for certain. However, the finish was not as clean-cut as many of the fans would have liked. At one point late in the match, Eddie Guerrero irish whipped Shawn Michaels, causing him to knock the referee over. Eddie took this moment to exit the ring, and grab a steel chair. Once inside the ring again, he struck the canvas with the chair, and dropped to the ground, sliding the chair over to Michaels. When the referee awoke to this site, he almost called for the ring bell, disqualifying HBK. Seeing this, Angle immediately ran down to ring-side, and pulled the referee out of the ring, tossing him into the steel steps. Angle then entered the ring, and used the steel chair to lay Guerrero out for real. Shawn Michaels, looking confused at what had happened, didn't waste time thinking, and he made the cover. Angle forced another referee at ring side to get into the ring and make the count, solidifying HBK as the number one contender. Angle and HBK had an intense stare down following the match. Again, a video was shown hyping the return of The Game, before RAW went off the air.

John Cena was given interview time for what many thought would be him demanding a title shot. However, the interview given showed glimmers of the John Cena of old. While he did state that he was screwed out of his title by Angle, he also went off on Shawn Michaels, saying that he was trying to steal his spotlight. This got mixed reactions from the crowd, and we're interested to see how John acts in the upcoming weeks. On the subjects of interviews, however, it should be noted that Ric Flair was also given mic time. Ric Flair said that Shelton Benjamin was a great athlete, but that truth be told, he hadn't proven himself as a champion yet. Ric Flair then layed down a challenge for Shelton: A match on the following RAW.

Carlito was able to pick up a roll-up victory over Chavo Guerrero, after spitting in his face with an apple behind the referee's back, and The Dudleyz were able to pick up a clean victory over the team of Val Venis and Viscera after a 3D. However, with the exception of the main event, the biggest match of the night was Matt Morgan's open challenge, layed down on last week's RAW. The challenge was answered by Kane. When Matt Morgan said he didn't want to face weak opponent's, we aren't sure he had Kane in mind, but his wish was certainly fulfilled. Morgan was able to outpower Kane for a while, but due to sheer experience in the ring, Kane began to gain the upperhand. Just when it looked like Kane was going to nail Morgan with a chokeslam, however, Morgan raked him in the eyes, and gave him a DDT. Morgan then got out of the ring, and began tossing chairs in -- three or four of them. Things quickly got messy after that, with both Morgan and Kane being DQed, due to hitting eachother in the head with chairs. These two monsters are definitely not through with eachother though. It should be noted that later on in the evening, however, Morgan was seen speaking to Chris Masters, telling him about what "that animal", Kane did to him in the ring. Could these two have formed an alliance?

Not long after the opening credits of SmackDown!, Muhammad Hassan made his way to the ring, and in a fit of rage, began shouting about how he had been screwed out of the World Heavyweight Championship. He was cut off, when Randy Orton came out, telling him to cool it. Randy Orton said in a cocky tone "Bro... You gotta tell me... I need to know. Why should you get a title shot again? You lost, bro! You lost! Meanwhile, I was busy defeating the Undertaker -- and I did it on my own!" Hassan continued to argue that he hadn't lost cleanly. Theodore Long came out, and presented a solution that didn't make either wrestler happy. He said that as of now, their is no number one contender, but that Orton would face off against Muhammad Hassan in a match tonight, and that he would come up with a solution by the following week.

Later in the show, Batista was shown on the video screen. Batista stated that he agreed Hassan deserved another shot -- but that it wouldn't change anything. He'd still be the World Heavyweight Champion. Batista said he had no problem kicking Orton's ass either though, and that he didn't care who Theodore Long made the number one contender. In the match between Randy Orton and Muhammad Hassan, Orton won after pinning Hassan while holding his feet on the ropes. The victory did not guarantee Randy Orton a spot as the number one contender, but you have to figure that it goes a long way in who Theodore Long picks. The World Champion himself had a match with a new SmackDown! worker, Jay Lethal, which he easily won via Batista Bomb.

The night also saw John Bradshaw Layfield in his return to the ring. He issued an open challenge early on in the night, saying that he had been off of TV too long, and that he was out to prove that he was still the top wrestler in the company. This call was answered by the United States champion, Christian. When the two locked up later in the evening, JBL picked up the victory after a brass knuckle shot went unseen by the ref. Christian made it no secret that he wants JBL in the ring again, but JBL seems content with walking away with one win and no losses.

Other matches included the fastest rising up-and-comer on SmackDown!, Bobby Lashley again defeating William Regal, who demanded a rematch. Tajiri was also seen in action, beating both Nunzio and Paul London in a non-title match, after he pinned Nunzio following a Buzzsaw kick. Also, in what was an upset victory, Matt Hardy, along with Shannon Moore, picked up a pinfall victory over MNM in a non-title match. Matt Hardy was able to pin Johnny Nitro after a Twist of Fate. This could very well lead to a title-shot for the reformed Team Mattitude, in the near future.

At the start of the show, the cameras were on Kurt Angle, proudly wearing his new WWE title. He told the crowd how wonderful it was, that the belt was around the best wrestler in the business. Shawn Michaels must have disagreed with who was, in fact, the best. Cutting Angle enough, Michaels said that although Kurt Angle did win the match on Sunday, he didn't do it fairly -- and he didn't beat The Heartbreak Kid. Michaels told Kurt that he wanted a one-on-one match for the title. Angle responded by saying that as champion, he doesn't have to accept any matches that he doesn't want to, but in this case, if Shawn Michaels truly wanted a beating, he would get one.

In the main event, Kurt Angle partially fulfilled his word. He did lay a beat down on Shawn Michaels, but he did not walk away with the win. After the match ended in a disqualification due to a blatant and intentional low-blow in front of the ref, not soon after the match had begun, Kurt Angle applied an ankle lock, causing Michaels to tap out. The aftermath showed Kurt Angle holding his belt in the air, screaming. The screen faded to black after he left, and a video of HHH played on the titantron. "The King of Kings returns in 2 weeks."

The former WWE champion, John Cena, was also seen in action, after being denied his rematch by Eric Bischoff, who claimed that there was no rematch clause in the contract. Perhaps because of this, Cena let his anger get the better of him in the match he had with Eddie Guerrero. Cena dominated the better part of the short match, but when going for an FU, Eddie Guerrero rolled off of his back, and pinned Cena with a roll-up. Eric Bischoff, who had opted to be a guest ring announcer stated that "maybe John would have better luck going after the Intercontinental title; but then again, he probably couldn't beat Shelton Benjamin either." While the former champ did pull Bischoff away from the announcer table, and deliver another FU to him before leaving, it doesn't look like any WWE title shots are in Cena's near future.

Speaking of the Intercontinental Champion, Shelton Benjamin was also in action. Due to defeating the Nature Boy, Ric Flair, on the RAW prior to Summerslam, Carlito was given one last shot at Benjamin's title. However, yet again, he would feel the effects of Shelton's T-Bone suplex. After picking up the pin, Benjamin retained his title yet again. After the match, the camera went back stage for some words from Ric Flair. Flair said that he knew Shelton would win, because Carlito is just a punk who doesn't know his role in the business. Perhaps there is some truth to these words, but much of the hate for Carlito, may be due to the fact that Carlito cheated to defeat him two weeks prior. Regardless, it is clear that Ric Flair's goal of picking up his first Intercontinental Championship are not burried yet.

The newcomer to RAW, Matt Morgan, was also seen in action, when he easily overpowered Gene Snitsky, and picked up the victory after an F5. With this, Morgan has shown that he doesn't just pick on guys that are smaller than him; He manhandles everyone. Following his match, he got on the mic in a frustrated tone. He claimed that he was the toughest and strongest superstar on the RAW roster, and said that he was tired of facing the weak opponents he was getting week after week. He issued an open challenge for any superstar to come to the ring for a match on the following week of RAW. With that, he tossed the mic to the floor, and went back to the locker room.

The match proceeding Morgan's, was a rematch for the World Tag Team titles between the Dudleyz and The Hurricane and Rosey. After Rosey felt the effect of a 3D, and Hurricane was tossed over the top rope by Bubba Ray, D-von picked up the three count for the victory.

WWE Presents: Summerslam - Sunday, August 21st, 2005

Summerslam, the biggest party of the Summer, got started with a large display of green and yellow fireworks -- matching the green and yellow stage area, and ring apron. The theme song of the event, Shout2000 by Disturbed, blasted through the arena. The song played as the different matches were hyped with on-screen graphics. After the music faded, The Big Show's music hit, and he went to the ring. Chris Masters came out next, and these two wrestlers went up against one another in the opening contest of the night.

Watching this match, if you had to choose, you'd have to say that the Big Show had the upperhand in the strength department. Masters definitely didn't show weakness though, knocking the Big Show down several times during the match with hard clotheslines. While The Big Show was down, Chris Masters took all advantages that he could get using stomps and even locking in a few submission moves. The Big Show was able to power out of each attempt at a submission victory though. During the course of the match, Big Show picked up some momentum, and began to toss Masters around the ring like a rag doll. It wasn't long before Masters was being set up for a Chokeslam. Out of desperation, Masters clawed Big Show in the eyes to get out of this. He then slipped behind Big Show and applied the Master Lock. The crowd thought that the match was over, as the Big Show fell to one knee, and then the other. The ref raised Big Show's arm and let it drop, but it didn't fall -- Big Show was then able to make it back to his feet! Big Show then began an attempt to power out of the Master Lock. It looked like he was coming close, until Masters puroposefully tossed him into the ropes, before sliding out of the ring cursing. Masters re-entered the ring with a steel chair, and went to strike Show with it, but had the chair Big Booted into his face, knocking him down. Big Show then lifted Masters up, and hit the Chokeslam for the three count.

MNM vs Legion of Doom©

In this match-up, MNM showed an aggression that has not yet been seen by the team. For all the cheating they've done in the past, they've never done it so consistently and flawlessly as they did at Summerslam. Taking every opening to get an eye rake, four-counts on illegal submission holds, got them quite a bit of momentum from the start of the match. LOD fought hard, however, and managed to simply over-power MNM. After a clothesline from Animal sent Nitro over the top rope, he lifted Mercury for the Doomsday Device. However, as Heidenreich got onto the top rope, Melina pulled at his leg, causing him to become distracted. Heidenreich got down from the rope, pointing and shouting at Melina. The ref watched, telling Heidenreich to get back on the apron. Animal was focused on this confrontation as well. Heidenreich ended up giving Melina a sideslam, to the cheer of the crowd. Unfrotunately for him, soon after doing this, Mercury low-blowed Animal, and rolled him up for the pin, while Heidenreich was still outside of the ring. While Melina ended up being a martyr, MNM did walk out of Summerslam with the gold, as they had promised.

Eddie Guerrero vs Rey Mysterio

Eddie Guerrero from RAW and Rey Mysterio from SmackDown! locked up in what was the third match of a great series. This match saw Rey getting the upperhand right from the start, by hitting several hurricaranas and arm drags. Eddie Guerrero was quick to get back to his feet though, and never let Rey Mysterio get ahead by much. The match remained at a quick pace, as both Eddie and Rey got some of their best spots in. After a head scissors take down planted Eddie on the bottom rope, Rey went for a 619, which Eddie dodged. Eddie then tried to roll Rey up for a pin, while putting his feet on the ropes. Somehow, Rey was still able to kick out. Eddie laughed at this, and shook his finger at Rey, telling him to keep focused. The two then resumed what was a good match. It would eventually come to an end after Eddie Guerrero planted Rey with the three amigos, which he followed up with a Frog Splash for the three count.

World Tag Team Championship

The Hurricane© and Rosey© vs Mystery Opponents

Hurricane and Rosey made their way to the ring first, something fairly uncommon for champions to do. They then stood in the ring, waiting to find out who their opponents were. As soon as the music hit, fans were on their toes: It was Bubba Ray and D-von Dudley! Hurricane and Rosey kept their grounds, but didn't look as confident as they generally do. In the match they did a good job of putting on a relatively even match, but were not able to keep up with the Dudleyz moving towards the end of the match. Bubba Ray hit a clothesline on the Hurricane, knocking him down. Bubba covered, and Rosey got in to break it up. But rather than wait for it to be broken, Bubba got up on his own, and had a trade-off of punches with Rosey. Bubba Ray was able to get the upper hand here, and he whipped Rosey into the ropes. By the time Rosey came back, D-von and Bubba were in position to hit a 3D. Hurricane got up off of the mat just to take a 3D of his own. Bubba, technically the legal man pinned Hurricane for the win seconds later.

United States Championship

Christian© vs Chris Benoit

With the first match between these two wrestlers being fought to a draw due to time constraints, it was unclear just who really deserved to be the United States champion. This match promised to clear that up; and it did. The match was even almost until the very end. Christian got the advantage at the start, with some clotheslines and headlocks. Benoit was able to reverse the headlocks fairly easily, but Christian's added mix of irish whips, knee strikes kept him with the edge. Through great effort, Benoit was able to come out of this slump, and fight his way back into the match-up. The move that turned the tables was a Crossface on Christian from no where, as Christian went for a running clothesline. Christian was able to reach the ropes, but Benoit had the upperhand by that point. That match stretched on for a while longer, eventually with Christian again picking up the momentum. Benoit showed his determination by kicking out of the Tornado DDT Christian gave him from off of the top rope, and even went on to lock in another Crossface (again, which Christian escape from via rope break). The third time going for a Crossface, things went awry for Benoit. He got ahold of Christian's arm, but was not able to drop Christian to the mat. Instead, Christian was able to turn Benoit around, and hit the Unprettier for the win, nearing the 25 minute mark. Christian got on the turnbuckle, holding his belt in the air afterwards, before helping Benoit to his feet. Both of the wrestlers were given a standing ovation.

Tables, Ladders, and Chairs

Edge vs Kane

It's no secret that the TLC match is Edge's category. Kane is more than capable of being violent though, and this wasn't the first time Kane stepped into a ladder match with Edge; Back at Wrestlemania 21, Edge defeated Kane, as well as four other men in the Money in the Bank ladder match. This one would be different though, as there was no prize for winning other than to see your opponent beaten down and bloody. In that category, the match definitely delivered. For the first half of the match or so, neither Kane nor Edge made any effort to climb the ladder. Instead, they both focused on hurting one another. Kane took a number of chairshots to the head and back. In one spot that got a nice reaction from the fans, despite their obvious hate for Edge, Edge set a table up out side of the ring, and put Kane through it from off of the steel steps, with an Edgecution. This marked Edge's first attempt to scale the ladder The Monster, Kane, showed that he would not be beaten that easily though, as he managed to get back into the ring, and knock over the ladder on Edge. The two then continued exchanging a mixture of wrestling maneuvers and weapon shots. After several minutes of turning the match in his favor, Kane managed to sideslam Edge onto the ladder, which was layed out on the ground. Kane then rolled Edge off of the ladder, and set it up so that he could climb it. Kane climbed slowly, however, due to the obvious pain he was in. This allowed Edge to get his wits, and begin climbing up after Kane on the other side. At the top of the ladder, the two got into a brawl. There, Kane grabbed Edge by the throat; It looked like it was all over, until Lita sacked Kane in the lower area with Edge's MITB briefcase. Edge then took this opportunity to jump from off of the Ladder, taking Kane down with him, in an Edge-o-matic. This garnered a "Holy Shit" chant. With Lita assisting Edge to get onto the ladder and climb, Edge was able to win the match.

World Heavyweight Championship

Batista© vs Muhammad Hassan

Muhammad Hassan entered first, kneeling down and praying after getting in the ring. Batista came out next, and as soon as his pyros were finished, Muhammad Hassan was on his way down the entrance ramp, bringing the fight to Batista. This resulted Batista grabbing him by the back of the head and dragging him to the ring, though. Muhammad Hassan deserves credit for the match that followed. He was able to really step up his game, and force Batista to give it his all. Hassan hit several high-impact moves, including a brutal DDT and an STO, both of which Batista kicked out of at two. Muhammad Hassan would eventually be put out for the three-count by a Batista Bomb, but the recaps clearly show Hassan getting his foot on the rope as the referee made the call. Few will deny that Batista over-powered Hassan nearly the entire match, but the fact is Hassan shouldn't have lost when he did. After Batista left the ring, and Hassan was helped up by Daivari, he made his view obvious, going so far as to apply a camel clutch to the referee. Hassan shouted about a conspiracy to keep the title off of an Arab American. While these claims are most likely false, it should be interesting to see how this is handled on SmackDown!

Randy Orton vs The Undertaker

In what may have been the most awaited match of the night, in the making since Wrestlemania 21, Randy Orton found himself up against The Undertaker for the second time, after two blind attacks cost The Undertaker a match against both Muhammad Hassan and Maven. This was The Undertaker's chance for revenge, and he certainly gave everything he had to get it. The Undertaker controlled most of the match, hitting all of his signature moves, from Snake Eyes, to Old School. It was only nearing the end of the match that Orton was able to make a semblance of a comeback, due to him raking the Undertaker's eyes. Fortunately for the Legend Killer, this was the only opening he needed. He immediately followed it up with an RKO, and covered Taker. While The Undertaker was able to kick out at two that time, it marked the momentum switch of the match. Orton slid next to the Undertaker, and began motioning for a second RKO. He slowly got to his knees as the Undertaker began to stand up. Then, just as Taker turned around, he was layed flat by a second RKO. This time Orton covered, and picked up the three count, officially adding the Undertaker to the ever-growing list of Legends that Randy Orton has killed.

WWE Championship

John Cena© vs Kurt Angle vs Shawn Michaels

In the main event match, John Cena was scheduled to defend his WWE title against both Kurt Angle and The Heartbreak Kid, Shawn Michaels. This match gave all of the competitors their chance to shine, as it extended for over thirty minutes. Early on in the match, their were several roll up pins attempted by all three of the wrestlers, but all were broken up by another of the three. Shortly after this though, things began to get more physical. There were backbreakers, Suplexes, and Hip tosses left and right for several minutes. This ended with Kurt Angle being knocked out of the ring. Shawn Michaels and John Cena then got a chance to have some one-on-one action. Shawn Michaels delivered some good moves, but looked to be in serious danger, as John Cena hit a protoplex, and followed it up with a Five Knuckle Shuffle. He then lifted HBK for an FU, only to have Kurt Angle run in, and kick Cena in the stomach, following that up with an Angle Slam. Getting to his feet, however, Angle was dropped with a Sweet Chin Music. HBK first tried covering Cena, in what may have been a mistake, as he kicked out. By the time HBK covered Angle, he had gathered the strength to kick out as well. The match continued. The next man tossed out of the ring was John Cena. In this time, Angle was nearly able to make Shawn Michaels submit, but HBK was able to make it to the rope. When John Cena returned, the three-way brawl insued again. The match continued for a while, until eventually Angle again found himself outside of the ring. On the inside, HBK was tuning up the band for Sweet Chin Music on a Cena who was just getting to his senses. Angle quickly grabbed a chair and slid into the ring. Just as HBK went for his Superkick, Angle smashed the chair over Michael's leg, causing him to fall to the ground, writhing in pain. Michaels rolled out of the ring to protect himself. Kurt took this opportunity to crack the chair of Cena's head. Rather than go for the pin, however, Kurt shouted out "I'm going to make you tap!" Angle then took the chair, opened it slightly, and placed Cena's leg in it, before stomping on it, causing Cena to shout in pain. Angle then pulled the chair off, and applied the Ankle Lock. Cena held on for nearly twenty seconds -- amazing, considering what had just been done to his ankle -- but in the condition that he was in, John Cena had no choice but to tap. Immediately following this, Angle ran to grab the WWE championship from the referee. The show ended with Angle holding it up proudly on the turnbuckle.

WWE SmackDown! - Thursday, August 18th, 2005

In the final SmackDown! before Summerslam, all of the final matches on the Summerslam card were cemented. The most important of these being that between The Undertaker and Randy Orton. Randy Orton headed to the ring, and began taunting the Undertaker, guaranteeing a victory at Summerslam. He was cut off mid-promo, by the lights going out, and the sound of a gong hitting. Randy Orton immediately left the ring, and ran towards the entrance ramp. There, a wall of flame shooting out of the ground knocked him off of his feet, and caused him to turn back to the ring, and get inside. However, once there, the lights went out again, and this time when they went back on, Randy Orton was face-to-face with The Undertaker. Showing courage, Randy Orton initiated a brawl with The Undertaker. Unfortunately for Orton, this brawl ended with a Chokeslam, and the Undertaker folding his arms, saying "Rest in Peace."

In the main event of the evening, occuring just before the segment between Randy Orton and The Undertaker, Chris Benoit competed against JBL in a number one contender's match for the United States title. After a hard-fought match, Benoit was able to make the self-proclaimed Wrestling God tap out the the Crippler Crossface. Benoit picking up the win over JBL means that he will be facing Christian, who defeated Shannon Moore in a non-title match earlier in the night, at Summerslam. It should be noted, that these two haved faced off for this title once before, with Christian retaining after a time limit draw. It will be interesting to see how the second match turns out. This time no time limits will be in place. Christian assured the crowd in an interview, prior to his match with Shannon Moore, that he would walk out of Summerslam as the champion, regardless of who he faced.

Tajiri defended his cruiserweight championship against Maven, after Maven defeated The Undertaker (with Randy Orton's help) on the previous edition of SmackDown! However, even with the momentum carried by picking up a pinfall victory over The Undertaker, Maven was unable to pick up the win over Tajiri. Instead, he tasted bitter defeat, as well as Tajiri's shoe, when he was put down by a Buzzsaw Kick. Tajiri was able to walk out of SmackDown! with the gold still around his waist, as well as another win on his record.

As for the World Heavyweight Champion, things were a little less positive. Muhammad Hassan, at one point in the night, took it upon himself to get on the mic and promise a win over Batista at Summerslam. He then called out Batista, telling him that if he has any balls, he would go to the ring, and face him like a man. Of course, Batista answered this call, and got into the ring. He and Muhammad Hassan exchanged some words, none of them pleasant, and then stared eachother down, nose-to-nose. That is, until Daivari delivered a low-blow to Batista. Hassan and Daivari then began to kick Batista for several seconds, before Hassan locked in a camel clutch. Once Batista had been choked out, Hassan dropped to his knees as if in prayer. The next time these two step into the ring together, it will be for the World Heavyweight Championship.

Newcomer, Bobby Lashley made his third SmackDown! appearence. He picked up another win, this time over Orlando Jordan. Lashley picked up the three-count after a running power slam nearly knocked Jordan unconsious. Johnny Nitro was also in singles action, pinning Heidenreich after a brass knuckle shot that went unnoticed by the referee. Road Warrior Animal chased off both members of MNM after the fight, before they could team up on Heidenreich, but he has to be worried about the title defense he and Heidenreich have coming up at Summerslam. MNM has seem to have had their number for a while now. Will things turn out different for Legion of Doom this sunday, or will their reign as tag champs come to an end?

WWE RAW - Monday, August 15th, 2005

It was announced early in the evening, that the main event match would be a three-way tag, featuring Kurt Angle, John Cena, and Shawn Michaels, each with a partner of their choosing. Kurt Angle made it no secret who his partner was going to be. He said that in the last tag match he was in, The Masterpiece destroyed Michaels and Cena. He promised that they would do the same tonight. Things did not go exactly as planned for Angle though. In the main event, Shawn Michaels teamed up with Shelton Benjamin, and Jon Cena paired up with the Big Show. The match ended with a chokeslam from the Big Show onto the Masterpiece. While Angle and Shawn Michaels both still have their eyes focused on the title, this definitely gives The Big Show all of the momentum moving into Summerslam -- his match against Chris Masters was cemented earlier in the night, when it was listed in the commercial for the pay-per-view.

The rivarly between Edge and Kane was also further heated. Kane was booked in a match against Carlito. Carlito did better than most people expected, getting several near-falls, but was ultimately put down by the Chokeslam, allowing Kane to pick up the victory. After the match had ended, Kane took a violent spear from Edge, however. While Edge still had a bandage wrapped around his head, it's clear that he's ready for the TLC match. He really drove the point home. He exiting the ring, picking up two steel chairs, and getting back in with them. Kane showed his strength by sitting up -- shocking Edge -- but was then put down by a stiff chairshot. Edge then dropped one chair, and rolled Kane onto it, before striking him with the other: A one-man con-chair-to. Edge got on the mic and asked Kane how it felt, stating that it was only a taste of what he will feel this sunday at Summerslam.

Chavo Guerrero put on a match with Ric Flair, pinning him after a Gory Bomb. In another match, Charlie Haas was able to make Rob Conway tap out to the Haas of Pain. While neither of these matches had any added stipulations, they could both go a long way in determining who will be the number one contender for the Intercontinental, or even WWE title. Both wrestlers in each of these matches were able to get in their share of offense. This was not the case, when Matt Morgan made his return to the WWE. In a completely one-sided match, he put down Val Venis with an F5 in just over two minutes.

Eddie Guerrero was given interview time. As expected, he responded to Rey MYsterio's lighthearted taunts on the previous episode of SmackDown! He congratulated him on pinning Kidman, but said that on Summerslam, he wouldn't be facing Kidman: He'd be facing Latino Heat.

The night kicked off with complaints from JBL. According to him, he was only beaten by Batista two weeks ago, because he was still in pain from being Spinebustered onto a chair at the Great American Bash. He then went on to complain about not even being on the card last week. He kept shouting about how he should be given a title shot again. It was Christian who cut him off, by saying that people were tired of hearing his constant whining. JBL and he got into an argument immediately. Christian took off his shirt, and began to walk towards the ring but was cut interuptted by general manager, Theodore Long. "Listen, playas," he said, "if you two want to go at it, then here's what we're gonna do. In the main event, JBL will have a match against Christian, and it will be for the United States championship! Now are ya feelin' that?"

In the main event, Christian and JBL had a relatively even match until JBL sought to tilt the odds in his favor by whipping Christian into the ref. While the ref was down, JBL dropped Christian with a low-blow, then left the ring to pick up a steel chair. As he got into the ring with it, however, Chris Benoit ran down the entrance ramp, and jumped onto the ring apron, to pull the chair from JBL's hands. After a brief argument with Benoit, JBL gave up on using the chair, and turned to Christian, walking right into an Unprettier. A recovering ref made the count here. After the match, Chris Benoit handed Christian his belt, but not before sataring at it for a moment. It should be noted, that Chris Benoit did not lose to Christian.

Prior to making the save in the main event, Benoit had been in the ring once more, earlier on in the evening. He suffered a pin from Muhammad Hassan, who held his tights during a roll-up pin. Benoit looked extremely angry at the end of the match, as Hassan slid under the bottom rope, and began to head up the entrance ramp. The anger was soon replaced by a smile as Hassan walked right into Batista, who was now standing at the top of the entrance ramp. Hassan and Batista traded punches, but the show saw Batista gain the upperhand, and lay Hassan out with a Spinebuster onto the steel floor.

As promised last week on SmackDown! Maven was forced to face The Undertaker in a match determining whether or not he would be given a rematch against Tajiri for the Cruiserweight championship. The Undertaker easily dominated Maven, but was unable to pick up the win. As he moved in for a Chokeslam, Maven panicked, and used his foot to kick the referee in the crotch. This didn't stop The Undertaker from Chokeslamming him to the mat, but it did stop the obvious three-count. What happened next was completely unexpected. Randy Orton ran down to the ring, wearing a referee shirt! Immediately upon entering the ring, Orton not-so-surprisingly nailed The Undertaker with an RKO, before pulling Maven on top of him, and counting to three. This marked the second time since Orton's move to SmackDown! that the Undertaker has lost due to Orton's Interference.

SmackDown's newest superstar, Bobby Lashley was also seen in action again. This time he was able to pick up an easy victory on Simon Dean. Rey Mysterio was also seen in action, picking up a victory of Billy Kidman. After the match, he got on the mic and again addressed Eddie Guerrero. "I watched RAW, and I saw your match. You won, esse! But I think my win says a little bit more." As Summerslam approaches, Eddie and Rey continue to outperform eachother on their respective shows. Come Summerslam, on August 21st, however, they will be facing off one-on-one.Legion of Doom, consisting of Road Warrior Animal and Heidenreich, were also given interview time. They addressed the beating MNM delivered to them two weeks prior, and said that lightning would not strike twice. They promised the victory come judgement day.

WWE RAW - Monday, July 8th, 2005

At the start of RAW, Eric Bischoff had an announcement concerning the WWE Champion, John Cena, as well as the two number one contenders, Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels. The General Manager said that all three of these men would be in singles matches tonight on RAW, and the general manager came through on his word. Shawn Michaels defeated Gene Snitsky after a Sweet Chin Music in the first of the three matches, but after that, things got a little more interesting. While Eric Bischoff claimed to be completely unbiased in deciding the match-ups, Kurt Angle having to face off against the female announcer, Maria doesn't seem like mere coincidence. This match lasted less than a minute, before it was ended via Ankle Lock. However, after the match ended, Angle refused to let up on the move, until he was chased off by John Cena.

John Cena was paired up against Eddie Guerrero in the main event. Prior to this match, Eddie Guerrero delivered a message to Rey Mysterio on SmackDown!, telling him to watch this match closely, as it will give him a preview of how he will be beaten come Summerslam. And although Eddie did walk away with the victory, it is most likely not as he envisioned it. After taking a bump, the referee was down. In this moment, John Cena delivered an FU to Eddie Guerrero, only to have an angry Kurt Angle enter the ring behind him, and deliver an Angle Slam. Kurt then pulled Eddie over the WWE champion, and shook the ref until he awoke, and made the three count. After the match up, Angle put John Cena in an ankle lock. Shawn Michaels made the save, and after a short brawl, delivered a Sweet Chin Music to Angle, shortly before RAW went off air.

The Big Show was also in action, easily defeating Tyson Tomko. After his match, Chris Masters attempted to level the Big Show with a chair shot to the back, but after the Big Show failed to go down, Masters quickly exited the ring, looking nervous. To say that these superstars haven't been able to see eye-to-eye would be truthful in reference to both height and situation.

Other high points of the show included Carlito defeating Ric Flair in a number one contender's match for the Intercontinental title, by putting his feet on the ropes during a three count, and interesting promo with Kane. The Big Red Machine accepted Edge's challenge to a TLC match from what appeared to be a boiler room in the basement of the arena. As Kane sat there with a sadistic look on his face, talking about how he will accept any opportunity he gets to inflict pain on someone, and that if that person happens to be Edge, it's all the better. TLC has always been a match Edge is familiar with. One could make the argument that there's no one better. Kane is not going into the match looking for glory or honor though. Kane is going into the match to hurt Edge.

Tonight's SmackDown! was a special one, as it marked the return of the Legend Killer, Randy Orton. Orton was seen briefly at the Great American Bash when he helped Muhammad Hassan defeat the Undertaker. On SmackDown! he announced that he was cleared to wrestle, and that he was going to call out the Undertaker himself. That is precisely what Randy Orton did, although the Undertaker did not answer his call-out in person. The lights went out, and smoke filled the arena, and Orton began to show visible signs of fright. The Undertaker's face then appeared on the video screen. The Undertaker spoke in a cryptic tongue about how Randy Orton had opened Pandora's Box. When the lights finally went back on, Randy Orton actually looked frustrated that the Undertaker hadn't answered his call in person.

Aside from the memorable return of Randy Orton, SmackDown! had an amazing main event, in which Christian and Benoit battled it out for the United States title. Christian retained after the two wrestled to a draw, due to exceeding the 20-minute time limit. Chris Benoit was able to hook in a Crippler Crossface just moments before the bell rang, and it is anyone's guess whether or not Christian would have tapped out. Christian has stated that he can beat Benoit, and that he wants to face him again. Benoit showed no malcontent, as he shook Christian's hand after their match, but it is clear that the Rabid Wolverine still has his eye on the United States title.

The Cruiswerweight title was defended as well, when Tajiri was able to pin Maven. Maven looked as if he was going to get the victory, until Tajiri ducked under a top rope dropkick. Tajiri was then able to roll Maven up for the 3-count. This caused Maven to become very frustrated. He began slapping the ring mat, shouting that he wanted another shot. Immediately following his match, he headed directly to Theodore Long's office, and told Teddy that he wanted a rematch. Long told him that if he wanted a rematch he was going to have to earn it. Maven told him that this was fair enough, but looked positively horrified when Long elaborated on this. In order for Maven to earn another Cruiserweight title shot, he would have to defeat the Undertaker on the next week of SmackDown!

Early in the show, Muhammad Hassan began shouting at the World Heavyweight Champion, calling Batista weak and stupid. Daivari agreed with everything Hassan said, although he would likely regret this later. Theodore Long's music hit, and the SmackDown! general manager told Hassan that he would not be facing Batista until Summerslam, but if Daivari wanted to pick a fight, that he got one. Later in the night, Batista easily defeated Daivari in a non-title match. However, after his match, Hassan entered the ring, and tried to take Batista down with a chair. Batista was able to fight him off, until a recovering Daivari hit a low-blow, allowing Hassan to get the upperhand, locking Batista into a camel clutch. The rivalry between these two wrestlers is really getting personal.

SmackDown! also featured a tag match between MNM and Matt Hardy and his old friend, Shannon Moore. MNM was able to pick up the victory here, after Mercury struck Shannon Moore with brass knuckles, while Melina distracted the ref. However, despite picking up the victory, MNM wasn't content. Mercury and Nitro began a vicious beat down on Hardy and Moore. Melina got on the mic after the beatdown had ended, and began to speak. "Last week, we beat down LOD so hard, that they couldn't even be here this week. And come Summerslam, when we get our rematch, we are going to do it again -- just like how we did to Matt Hardy and... who's that other guy?" Despite some laughter from the crowd on that comment, MNM garnered mostly boos.

In addition to the established SmackDown! roster putting on a good show for the crowd, we were able to witness a new superstar make his SmackDown! debut. The debuting superstar, Bobby Lashley, truly is -- as SmackDown! announcer Taz puts it -- the real deal. Standing in at six-foot-three, 275 pounds Lashley certainly has the superstar look. And defeating William Regal after delivering a vicious spear shows that he has the talent to back up the look. Bobby Lashley is a three-time national champion in amateur wrestling. We are interested in seeing if he can cumulate the same success on SmackDown!

WWE RAW - Monday, August 1st, 2005

RAW kicked off with the Nature Boy, Ric Flair, defeating Tyson Tomko after using some of his colorful tactics that fans seem to get a kick out of. After squeezing Tomko's jewels for nearly 10 seconds, Ric Flair was able to sneak in a Figure Four Leglock for the submission victory. After his match, Ric Flair stated that he had been winning his matches lately, and that he had his eye on the Intercontinental Championship. This got a good reaction, but the crowd was for more interested in Kurt Angle's hunt for the WWE gold. After Flair's match, the camera switched to Kurt Angle and Cena having a conversation in back. Angle told Cena that he's a good fighter, but that he can't wrestle, and that come Summerslam he would not be walking out as champ. Angle showed that he can back up his talk, however, by going out and defeating both of the Hearthrobs in a handicap match, with ease.

In the main event, Shawn Michaels showed off that he was truly a contender as well, after pinning Viscera. He hadn't had a chance to celebrate before Kurt Angle had made his way to the ring, in attempt to lay out the Show Stopper. It wasn't long before John Cena was out there as well, trying to help Shawn. John Cena was able to deliver an FU to Kurt Angle. Shawn Michaels then began to tune up the band. As Kurt Angle got up, however, he saw the Superkick coming and grabbed John Cena, pushing him in the way of the kick. Michaels inadvertently clocked Cena with a Sweet Chin Music. Angle took this as a chance to roll out under the bottom ropes and head backstage. The show faded to black as Michaels looked at what he had done, with an expression of sorrow on his face.

Other than the previously-mentioned matches, Shelton Benjamin defended his Intercontinental title against Chavo Guerrero in what was easily the match of the night. After a solid match, Shelton picked up the win after a T-Bone Suplex. There was also a match between Eddie Guerrero and Chris Masters. Eddie walked away with the victory, after suplexing Masters while the ref was down, then placing a steel chair in his arms, before pretending to be in pain. The ref woke up to the site of Masters holding a chair, and Eddie Guerrero on the ground. While not actually issuing a DQ, the confusion going on gave Eddie enough time to roll-up Masters for the three count. This greatly angered Masters, and after getting to his feet, he clotheslined Eddie. Masters then picked up the steel chair, and struck it against the ground several times before motioning towards Eddie. Thankfullyt for Latino Heat, the Big Show showed up and chased Masters off before anyone was hurt.

Hurricane and Rosey were able to successfully defend their titles against Eugene and Val Venis.

We were also able to get a live update on Edge's condition from his hospital room. Edge didn't seem to be concerned about his injury, however. He was far more concerned with getting revenge on Kane. He said that it was his own fault for being hurt. He said what he should have done, was beaten Kane to within an inch of his life, and that not doing so was his only regret about the cage match. Before the cameras left, Edge issued a challenge of his own for Kane. He said that though he will be in no condition to wrestle on RAW next week, that he'll be cleared to wrestle at Summerslam, and that he wants Kane in one more match -- a match that he's the master off: Tables Ladders and Chairs. We have yet to see Kane respond to this, but Kane is not usually one to turn down a challenge.

WWE SmackDown! - Thursday, July 28th, 2005

This week's episode of SmackDown! kicked off with JBL delivering an angry promo about how he still deserves a title shot. He mentioned that not only was he screwed at the Great American Bash and not allowed a rematch, but that he was then screwed in the number one contender's match that he was placed in. Delivering this promo would actually earn JBL a title shot, however, as Batiata's music hit, and the World Heavyweight Champion came out. Batista said that he was sick of JBL's complaining, and that if he wanted a rematch he got one. In the main event of SmackDown! Batista took on JBL for the World Heavyweight Title. The match didn't quite go as JBL had planned, however, as he was pinned cleanly after a Batista Bomb. Despite retaining his title, however, the night did not go in Batista's favor either. Following the main event, Batista was grounded by repeated chairshots to the back of the head by Muhammad Hassan. SmackDown! would go off the air as Muhammad lay kneeling in the ring with his arms in the air.

Earlier in the show, Maven took on Matt Hardy, and was able to score what many considered an upset victory, after hitting Matt Hardy with a vicious dropkick off of the top rope. Following this match was a rather interesting message delivered by Maven. "Look at this body," he said slyly. "I know I may not be as big as guys like the world champion, or Chris Masters over on RAW. That actually works in my favor though. See, over the last few weeks, I've dropped a few pounds. This morning I weighed in at 219 pounds. That's remarkable. Let me spell it out for those of you who don't get it. My current weight actually marks me as a cruiserweight -- although as far as cruiserweights go I'm obviously in a league of my own." Maven grins. "I spoke to Teddy Long earlier. And I already have a title shot in my future. Next week, I'm going to face Tajiri and I'm going to beat him." With that, Maven tossed the mic to the ground and headed backstage. Prior to his match, the Cruiserweight Champion, Tajiri, successfully defended his title against Billy Kidman.

Both the United States champion, and the number one contender for it saw action in the ring as well. While walking in the backstage area, Chris Benoit was double-teamed by Booker T and Orlando Jordan, both angry at no longer being in the United States title hunt. Thankfully, the United States champion, Christian was able to make the save before too much damage had been done. Shortly after this confrontation, a tag match was announced. Chris Benoit and Christian faced off against Booker T and Orlando Jordan in a tag team match. They would go on to win this match, as Chris Benoit held Orlando Jordan in a Sharpshooter, forcing him to watch as Christian delivered an Unprettier to Booker T and won the match. Chris Benoit and Christian shook hands after the match. Chris Benoit stated that he was looking forward to their match coming up at Summerslam.

Road Warrior Animal was in a single match against MNM's Johnny Nitro, but this match didn't last long, as Johnny Nitro got himself intentionally disqualified by running Animal's own title belt into his face shortly after the match began. Heidenreich attempted to make the save, but was beaten down in a two-on-one by MNM. MNM then delivered a snapshot to Animal, planting him onto one of the tag belts. Melina then got on the mic and shouted that MNM had not yet been granted the rematch that their contract guaranteed, and that they would be facing off again soon.

At the recent press conference held for WWE Summerslam, Vince McMahon, chairman of the board for World Wrestling Entertainment, made an announcement relating to WWE television. He said that WWE has struck a deal with USA network, and will be allowed to air one show a week, on Saturday night. Mr. McMahon announced that this deal would mark the return of Saturday Night Velocity, and that the webcasts of Sunday Night Heat would be drawing to a close.

According to Mr. McMahon, the new Velocity would hold no restrictions on brands, and that both RAW and SmackDown! superstars would be in attendance, although that the show itself would mainly focus on the development of new talent, and that storylines would be minimal. There are currently no plans for any championship belts to be allocated to Velocity.

The announcers for Velocity were also disclosed at this press conference. Joey Styles is set to be the main announcer, with Jonathan Coachman as the color commentator.

WWE RAW - Monday, July 25th, 2005

In the opening bout on RAW, Eddie Guerrero faced off against Gene Snitsky, and went on to get the three-fall after successfully hitting a Frog Splash. The match didn't take much out of Latino Heat, however, as he was still able to get on the mic for a short promo. He kept it short and simple, thanking Rey Mysterio for accepting his match, and saying that their upcoming match at Summerslam was sure to be a classic. He then left, to cheers of the crowd. Directly after he was gone, Chris Masters made his entrance, and defeated Steven Richards in a short match. His reaction was far less positive, getting a large ammount of boos.

RAW cut to commercials after Chris Master's match, but the cameras began rolling again just in time to catch a stare down between Kurt Angle and HBK, in the backstage area. Kurt Angle showed that he was less-than-pleased at having to take on both John Cena and Shawn Michaels at Summerslam. He asked why the hell HBK had to stick his head into the title scene in the first place, to which Michaels reminded him of the match Angle himself had interfered in: The match that he knocked out both Cena and Michaels with a steel chair. The continued to shout, until eventually Kurt Angle brushed Michaels off with a "psh" sound, and walked away.

In the match following this encounter, John Cena would take on the Big Show. This match was back-and-forth for a while. Perhaps the most shocking part of the match, was The Big Show powering out of a pinfall made after John Cena hit his FU finisher. After this point the match went on for a bit longer, until Cena went for a second FU. This time he was unsucessful in his attempt to lift the Big Show. The Big Show took this opportunity to lift Cena for the Chokeslam. He was unable to make a cover, however, as The Masterpiece, Chris Masters entered the ring behind him, holding a steel chair. After cracking the Big Show in the head with it several times, Masters locked in his signature Master Lock, bringing the giant to his knees.

The match proceeding John Cena versus The Big Show, was Ric Flair versus Sylvain Grenier, in which Flair easily made Grenier tap to a Figure Four Leglock. The crowd cheered the Nature Boy, many taking part in chants of "Wooo!", however it was the following match that truly got many of the fans on their feet. Carlito who could no longer delay his match with Shelton, was forced to defend his Intercontinental title. In this match, Carlito attempted to gain any advantage he could through illegal means, but was unable to come out on top. Eventually, Benjamin was able to hit him with a T-Bone suplex, and gain a clean win over Carlito, securing his position as the new Intercontinental Champion.

In the main event, Edge and Kane's hate for eachother cumulated, as they participated in a Steel Cage match. This match was hard-fought on both sides, but Edge was eventually able to steal the victory, after Lita tossed his MITB briefcase over the top of the cage, and Edge clocked Kane with it. This gave him just enough time to climb out of the cage door. That is not to say that Edge didn't put up a good fight. A Spear through the ropes, and into the sides of the cage onto Kane proved that he certainly can. But it was the cheapshot with the briefcase that won him the match. However, Edge's night was not over. As he and Lita made their way to the entrance ramp, Kane sat up in the ring, and immediately exited the cage, and followed Edge. Edge, being the gentleman that he is, told Lita to head backstage, as he went to confront Kane -- while holding a steel briefcase as a weapon. However, even with this briefcase, he was unable to out-brawl Kane. The end result was a chokeslam off of the entrance ramp. The show faded to black with Kane laughing, as Edge was taken out by paramedics, strapped to a stretcher.

WWE SmackDown! - Thursday, July 21st, 2005

SmackDown! opened up with JBL riding out in his limo, and getting on the mic. He was visibly upset at how the Great American Bash had gone. He got on the mic, and began to shout, asking what happened at the Bash. He claimed that Batista had to use a steel chair to defeat him, and that he was a terrible champion, and that he wanted another shot at the title. In the middle of his promo, he was cut off by an all-too familiar entrance music, as Muhammad Hassan stepped out. Hassan told JBL that he had no business getting another shot at the title. He had already lost, while Hassan had defeated the Undertaker. He claimed that it was disgusting how he was being kept out of the title scene, just because he was arab, and that JBL, an American, would be given another shot even after losing. However, Teddy Long came out and said that he was not going to discriminate against anyone, and that in the main event, Hassan would face off against JBL in a number one contender's match. Hassan would go on to win this match after hitting JBL with a chair, while Daivari distracted the referee. In the closing moments of SmackDown!, the World Heavyweight Champion, Batista stood on the entrance ramp and stared down Hassan, who was still in the ring.

And although Summerslam is still one month away, a second match was decided as well, when Rey Mysterio answered Eddie Guerrero's challenge, by saying that he accepted. This got a great reaction from the crowd.

Christian was given interview time, following Rey Mysterio's, but he was quickly cut off by Orlando Jordan who demanded that he get a rematch for his title. Christian agreed to this, but defeated Orlando Jordan in just over a minute, via pinfall after an Unprettier. Christian then continued his interview as if nothing had happened. He said that he was looking ahead at a long reign as the United States champion, and that he would face off against anyone without hesitation. As things turned out, his next challenger would be decided later on in the night, when Chris Benoit faced off against Booker T. Chris Benoit was eventually able to make Booker T submit to a Sharpshooter, earning him the right to face Christian for the United States Championship.

In other matches, Tajiriwas able to defeat Paul London in a Great American Bash rematch, for the Cruiserweight title. In this match, Paul London got a second taste of the Buzzsaw Kick. The new tag team champions, Heidenreich and Animal, were also seen in action, taking on Nunzio and Akio in a non-title match that they easily won. However, following their match, MNM made their way to the ring. And after tossing Road Warrior Animal out of the ring, they delivered a Snapshot to Heidenreich, leaving him lying on the ground in pain. It's clear that these two teams are not done with eachother.
