  1. Anyone going to the midnight release with the in-store tournaments?

I'm not but I'll pick it up tomorrow afternoon. 09 played all right but here's hoping improvements were made.

  2. A little something for Sunny fans; small blurb on the upcoming fifth season-

EXCLUSIVE: Ponzi Schemes, Octomoms And Roddy Piper On The New Season Of ‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’

Published by Eric Ditzian on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 2:18 pm.

'It's Always Sunny in PhiladelphiaI’ve been hurting. Probably my two favorite comedies on TV—“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm”—have been on hiatus far too long, and there’s only so many times you can re-watch episodes before your neighbors, behind thin NYC apartment walls, begin to complain. But! Larry David’s “Curb” is coming back to HBO in the fall, after a two-year break. And now comes word that “Sunny,” the debaucherous comedy about four friends who run a dive bar in Philly and make one another’s lives hilariously uncomfortable, will be resurfacing on F/X on September 17th for a 12-episode run.

While Charlie Day, along with his fellow writer/producer/co-stars Rob McElhenney and Glenn Howerton are still in the midst of shooting episodes, Day stepped away from the set to kick MTV News the inside scoop about what “Sunny” fans can expect when the gang—including Danny DeVito’s bundle of scummy fun, Frank—returns to the small screen.

“One of my favorite scripts right now is an episode called ‘The Gang Wrestles for the Troops,’” he said. “In our attempt to honor the troops coming back from Iraq, we try and put on a wrestling match and ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper is appearing in that. He’s playing a down on his luck wrestler called Da Maniac.”

That episode will also give the gang a chance to show off their musical talents, which have been on display before with ridiculous yet catchy tunes like “Day Man” and “Day Bow Bow.” “All great wrestling performers had a good entrance song, so we’ve written our own entrance song about the Birds of War, which is what we call ourselves,” Day revealed.

From an early episode about abortion to last season’s show in which the gang goes to typically absurd lengths to get heath insurance, the “Sunny” crew has shown a curiosity about engaging with news making headlines day after day, and the new season will be no different. Expect plot lines to touch on the economic crisis, Ponzi schemes and, Day said, “We may just touch on the Octomom thing for a minute.”

“We don’t ever want to beat anyone over the head with it or be preachy, but it also feels a little irresponsible to just ignore the world and what’s going on,” he explained. “We don’t take it too, too seriously, but I think it’s good to address those things in the light of comedy.”

Day has just been cast opposite Drew Barrymore, Christina Applegate and Justin Long in the romantic comedy, “Going the Distance,” so once shooting on “Sunny” wraps in late July, the actor will be shuttling between shooting the movie and helping put the TV show together. While he won’t be in the edit room every day, after four seasons, Day is feeling secure about the direction of “Sunny.”

“I don’t think we’re arrogant, but from day one we were confident in the type of show and the type of humor we wanted to put out there,” he said, before heading back inside to continue shooting. “It’s been great how much the show has grown in terms of a fan base and how enthusiastic our fans. We’ve always been proud of our show, especially compared to the other comedies on television.”

What do all the “Sunny” fans think about what the guys have planned for the new season? What news headline would you like to see them integrate into an episode?

I'm so ready for the new season. The wrestling episode should be hilarious. I can almost play it out in my head right now. Charlie wrestling as Green Man, Dennis sexually parading around the ring, Mac taking his wrestling gimmick super-serious, Frank as the manipulative booker... AND Piper.

And they're doing an Octomom episode. Looks to be an amazing season.

September 17th can't come any sooner.

  3. Still rocking PS2, been getting my UCLA Bruins ready for a run to glory with THE DREAM TEAM COACHING STAFF! WOO!

Y'all are lucky I'm not on PS3, cuz I would have picked someone like Navy and ran triple option all ovah yo' asses!

Did they fix the CPU defensive pursuit angles? Because in 08 for PS2, they were flat out terrible. I couldn't even play it any more after about 3 games in my Tulane dynasty.

Also any new plays/formations to use?

  4. I didn't even know this was releasing tomorrow until a friend told me earlier today. The promotion has been pretty nonexistent. I haven't heard about new features, modes, animations or anything.

Sadly, if I do get it, it'll probably be for the PS2.

  5. How old does it have to be to be considered old-school these days?

I'd think enough years have passed that we can consider groups of the early 90s and maybe to the mid-90s old school.

But on the other hand, does old school rap really just refer more to a style, something in the vein of a Run DMC or Big Daddy Kane?

I think what DMN and I have is a different definition of "old school". I think the idea that to be "old school" all you have to do is be an 80's rapper or hip-hop group is totally bollocks. You have to acknowledge that the "old school" of yesterday is going to become the "ancient" or "super old school" of tomorrow -- and hip-hop seems to have a shorter lifespan in that regard. To me, "old school" is defined as being something/one/group that regarded as being classic(s) no matter if they were releasing albums in 1988 or 1996. Yeah, there's gotta be a cutoff somewhere (I'm not going to be calling albums released in 2002 old school any time soon), but albums released in the early 90's could easily be considered "old school".

For me it's about lyricism, beats, style and whether or not the group set a precedent more than anything else when I think "old school", and I can't think of many rappers or groups that have done that since the mid-90s or so.

  6. Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, ATLiens, and Aquemini definitely need to be mentioned in this topic. Even though Aquemini was released like 10 years back, it's still 5x better than the current rap scene.

Can't forget about Illmatic(best album ever), It Was Written, or my new old school favorite right now. Mobb Deep's The Infamous.

  7. Hip Hop Docktrine 2 was the best mixtape out this year along with Mixtape Messiah 3. Both are pretty much no need to press skip track, plus with HHD2 it had clips from Boondocks.

I am shocked that no even mentioned UGK "Underground Kingz", which was the best album by far in 2007. Lyrics, production, and special feature guests all blended into a classic album. From "Swishas and Doshas" to "Hit the Block" all songs were perfectly placed in their order, complementing the slow, soulful with the uptempo bangers.

  8. NCAA 07. I have a Dynasty running with Cincinnati and will continue until 08 comes out. But I'm trying to recreate the Miami Dolphins' 3-4/4-3 hybrid defense with versatile OLB's and DE's that can sub in and out. Really difficult trying to recruit fast 6'4 240 lb LB's or 6'5 260 lb DE's when you're only a 2 star prestiged program.

I'm also playing a Texas Tech-style offense where the QB throws 45+ attempts at least. Pulled a 4 star QB, 6'3'' 237, throwing for 3600 yards in his freshman season, who's now an Impact Player in his sophomore year.

  9. A trio of Pierce/Allen/Jefferson can begin to compete in the East right now. I give them like a 3 year window to make a push to the Finals with that nucleus, because simply put the New Jersey Nets were just in the East Finals despite only have 4 players(Carter, Kidd, Richard Jefferson, and Moore).
  10. I hope Acie Law goes to either Miami or Philly. He is without a doubt my favorite player in this draft with Jeff Green and Corey Brewer, second and third.

Law + Wade - Jason Williams = back to Finals contender

Law + Igoudala + Korver = great youthful core to build a team with
